Feelin Kinda Sunday

Sunday, January 10, 2016

Happy Sunday Sparkers. It's early, the sun hasn't come up yet. I have my coffee and my labrador curled up at my side. She never lets me sleep past 5:30.

Yesterday, I commented on Spark member TORTISE110's blog about early morning Sparking, that I'm not a morning person but this early morning relaxing time is very nice!

As Frank and Nancy Sinatra sang, I'm "feelin kinda Sunday" and I'm reflecting on the week past...

I ran a 5K on New Year's day to start the year off on an active note and had a nice morning with some members of my running group.

I spent three hours taking down Christmas decorations and cleaning the house.... lots of steps and stairs!

I spent two hours in a hospital waiting room with my daughter's boyfriend because my daughter needed a colonoscopy due to some issues she's been having and our family history. It turned out fine but oh the worry. I am very good at working myself into a tizzy.

I started a 4-week, on-line nutrition course. I'm not expecting to change careers next month, just something constructive to do.

Yesterday I ran 4 miles. There have been days sprinkled here and there where I pushed myself to run 4 or 5 miles. The last mile or two always felt like I was running against a wall which led to a few walking breaks.

As I closed in on the end of the 4th mile yesterday, with no walking breaks, I had a huge smile on my face. I felt like I did a couple years ago when I got used to running three miles.... challenged but not ruined!

I credit my time at Orange Theory Fitness. I've been going once a week since the beginning of October. I am pushed to the limits and beyond in that hour there. The one trainer always tells us "hate me now, love me late." I must admit, I do. After I ran yesterday, I thought to myself I need to hug her next time I see her.

I've slimmed down since October. I've had comments that I've lost more weight recently when in fact my weight has stayed at or just above goal weight lately. I used to hang 2-3 pounds under goal weight. I guess there is something to that whole muscle-weighs-more-than-fat idea.

So the week ahead.... the temps have taken a dive here. Winter is back for a while. So I'm going to bring back a challenge I did with myself last year during the frigid days.... jumping jacks and burpees every day according to the high temperature for the day.

Today's high will be 16 so later there will be 16 jumping jacks and 16 burpees.

70 days until spring. Now is the time to get the work done! emoticon

You are doing so awesome Kellie. What an inspiration you are to all of us. So glad to hear about your daughter. We still worry about them no matter how old they get. And then grandchildren get thrown into the picture. Keep up the good work. When I see your picture it makes me want to work even harder. Have a wonderful Sunday and a great rest of the week.

Oh, winter has finally made it here too. Temps have dropped and we are having high winds and no. No porch laps today I'm afraid. Will pull out the videos.

I thought it was cold and blustery here in Atlanta at 39 degrees! I love to read about how you overcome all odds and JUST DO IT when it comes to challenging yourself. I had that experience this morning. A little achy from a workout yesterday and was going to skip a workout . Well, I couldn't let that happen and let the team down, besides I was on a roll having increased aerobics by 10 min a day since the beginning of the 5% challenge. I did 55 minutes of aerobics which surpassed yesterday, Spark is a fantastic motivator and helping me keep that exercise routine! You help motivate me and for that, here is a Big Hug. Thank you!! emoticon

I'm glad to see that your daughter is okay and the colonoscopy showed that, and I know that's a relief for you.

As for muscle weighing more than fat, it's what I call a half truth. A pound of muscle and a pound of fat, weigh the same, a pound. However, if throw that fat into the swimming pool it floats. Now, that same pound of muscle, when you throw that into the pool it sinks. It doesn't sink, because it weighs more, because the are both a pound. It sinks because it's more dense. That's what gives you your definition, when your body gets sculpted. Now, because the muscle is more dense, you will weight a bit more, as your body is adding more sculpting and toning muscle. Its' a beautiful thing. In fact, my thighs have gotten to the point that they want to bust through my jeans, and I am talking about the ones with the bit of stretch in them, because of the muscle. So, I will be seeing a seamstress to have her make me some pants, to compensate for the larger thigh. My thighs look FANTASTIC!!!
