My new focus

I haven't blogged on here in a really long time. I think that it might be good for me to do this more often.
I did my yearly mammogram 5/16. I got the dreaded letter and phone call, hey let's take a better look at this. I went in for a bilateral diagnostic mammogram, which led right then and there to an ultra sound, which then the radiation DR came in and took over the ultra sound. I figured then that things were whonky.
She didn't like the results and wanted a biopsy - which was done 2 days later. Then the results a few days later from the biopsy - positive for cancer.
Luckily my cancer was caught very early - it would have taken 2 years before this tumor could have been felt with a self exam. Whatever on those cancer websites that are recommending doing mammograms every 2 years!
I had a partial mastectomy on 8/4 and then a resection on 8/11. 2 surgeries in 7 days, that was crazy hard. I had incision healing problems and with my body producing fluid to replace that flesh that had been removed. Finally my incision has healed, my oncotype testing came back low and I only have to do radiation therapy, no chemo!
This has been really condensed version of all I have gone through and I have been really lucky. Many people have had much worse journeys.
DH & I are leaving on vacation 10/15 to Jamaica - this has been scheduled for 6 months. Don't think that your life can't change in less than 6 months drastically. Luckily I had such an early detection and great tests results that I am able to start my radiation after we get back from vacation. This is for our 32nd wedding anniversary.
I know I will have side effects from the radiation therapy, but I am educating myself and preparing myself as best as I can.
I hope someone reads this and decides to do their mammogram!
