Traveling down Memory Lane - Happy SparkAnniversary!

Tuesday, December 27, 2016

December 28, 2012, the parties were over, my legs were swollen from too much weight, too much of the wrong foods and too little time in any meaningful exercise.
After years of "diets" of every description my comment was always "I'm not going over 200 no matter what!"
But, once I did go over 200 pounds, it was amazing how easy it became to just check to see how far over it was. All the time I was in and out of WW (a good program) TOPS (also a good program) the soup diet (sort of healthy) one meal a day (not healthy) and many many other (very unhealthy) diets. Lots of money, lots of plans, lots of new starts with lots of ups and downs and always back up the scale when I went off the "diet".

Then by chance while changing doctors I read my report as I carried it to the new doctor. The first line rocked my world because, even though I knew I weighed too much, I had never read it as part of my health chart and no doctor ever mentioned it.
The report began, "the patient is an older obese female"..........
I was a young 71 (my idea) weighed less than many of my friends (true) and still was medication free (healthy)!
I decided it's December, I'll get past the holiday and start again in January. Then I read an email about Sparkpeople and checked it out. It was free so what was there to loose. I joined on December 28, 2012 and kind of hid until I made the decision to pay for "Spark Coach" for one year to make myself accountable. It was a very good decision. It kind of forced me to reach out and find others on this journey with me.

Answer to my First blog Feb 4, 2013
Good job!! Have you joined any teams? Look into that. The team members can help motivate you.

That advice was posted on my Sparkpage 1422 days ago (according to the post) and my life is so different now and so much better! Thanks to great team leaders, coaches and logging every day, I have lost weight, kept it off and am very happy with my healthy lifestyle. There are still goals to reach, friends to meet and challenges to get involved in, life is good.
emoticon To all the newbies who start this time of year, to all the oldies returning for another try, welcome, good luck and know you are in the right place. Take advantage of it all, you will be glad you did.
emoticon Happy Spark Anniversary to SP Class of December 23-29, 2012 !!!!
emoticon Happy Happy New Year 2017!!!!

Happy Sparkversary to a fellow Class Member! Well done Phyllis! My sister told me about SP. I was in the same boat as you. Feeling sluggish, not exercising, but I was on BP medication. Just over 50 at the time and feeling to old to be so young. Life changer!
