Groundhog Day 2017

Thursday, February 02, 2017

I did not see my shadow today. It's snowing here in upstate NY. But apparently Punxsutawny Phil saw his. 6 more weeks of winter. In my experience, it makes no difference one way or the other. Winter hangs on about the same duration, regardless.

According to my shadow, Spring will come early. As soon as I get back to Texas, that will be a true prediction.

January passed quickly. Too quickly. I did not set up any specific goals in writing, but the main goal was to continue working my plan to improve my blood sugar levels without the use of medicines. My numbers have been okay, but I need to do some real work to get them where I would like them. I gave myself a bit of a pass since I am out of my element. But the work has continued. I am finding that my core nutritional program is working well to improve my "numbers", but I know that with a little more effort I would make bigger strides.

So now it's February and I will be heading back to Texas mid-month, so it's time to put forth a plan so that I can hit the ground running. My best blood glucose numbers were when I was faithful to the Atkins Induction plan. 20 Net carbs or less per day. That takes a lot of effort to maintain, so I have relaxed my carb count and been able to keep a decent count just by eliminating grains, legumes and starchy vegetables (along with sugar). But, if I want to see more marked improvement, I know what I need to do.

I am pleased at the level of compliance I have achieved while in "hostile" territory. And the simplicity of my core diet of meat and vegetables has made this trip uncomplicated and hasn't created a situation where my "diet" is a bother to anyone else. I have not been one of those
"pain in the butt dieters" that needs special treatment. I cook for everyone, so I make meals that I can eat that are "normal" to other omnivores.

All in all, my trip up north has been successful. I have about two weeks left. I am anxious to get home to put the push on for even better numbers, but I'll be okay until then. I'm doing well.

Hope you are doing well, too.

Nancy, I like your shadow prediction better than PA and MI's furry critters of 6 more weeks of winter, lol.

We never got above 22 today and going down tonight, will be snuggles under my covers. I had to get out a couple times today and was glad when I got home and could stay put.

It doesn't sound like you've done to bad while away.

    Take care and stay warm.

    Hugs,
    Shirl
