Mindful March
Wednesday, March 01, 2017
I decided that my Lenten practices would include reading, reflection and stretching first thing every morning. I chose a book titled ENDURING GRACE Living Portraits of Seven Women Mystics, by Carol Lee Flinders. It is copyrighted 1993 and judging by the brown pages of the paperback, I believe I bought it when it first came out. Never got around to reading it! I want to share a quote from that book. The author quotes from Mechthild of Magdeburg, from her work The Flowing Light of the Divine Godhead:
That prayer has great power
which a person makes with all his might.
It makes a sour heart sweet,
A sad heart merry,
A poor heart rich,
A foolish heart wise,
A timid heart brave,
A sick heart well,
A blind heart full of sight,
A cold heart ardent,
It draws down the great God into the little heart,
It drives the hungry soul up into the fullness of God,
It brings together two lovers,
God and soul,
In a wondrous place where they speak much of love.
I am inspired to make March a more prayerful month!
Mindful eating. That's how I am framing my eating plan for March. I need to be aware of when I am fully nourished and take the time to really taste and enjoy my food. I will listen to my body and feed it accordingly. Today is a day of fasting and a light meal at the end of the day.
Mindful stretching. Yoga is a great way to celebrate the gift of my body. I started off my day with some stretching and learned some "mudras" online.
My personal March came in like a lamb today. The gentleness and peace of morning meditation and movement has started my month off in a very positive place. A great start to my March and Lenten season.
Here's to March. Let's make it a great month!
