My Happiness Challenge Day 27

Monday, July 17, 2017

Happy people... 27. Can differentiate between pleasure and happiness. In his book "The Art of Happiness," His Holiness the Dalai Lama explains the difference between happiness and pleasure, which are easily confused: "True happiness relates more to the mind and heart. Happiness that depends on physical pleasure is unstable; one day it's there, the next day it may not be." Ok, when I started this I didn't know I was going to be examining Buddhism. But it's not a bad thing to study other faiths in order to confirm your own beliefs. I have to admit I don't know what this quote is expressing other than one is really in control of ones happiness. It is something you can choose. You control your attitude about things. You can be negative or positive about your situation. Sometimes I see good situations and look for the hidden dark cloud. I think it's something a lot of people do. But I think happiness does relate to pleasure like seeing the beauty in the world, taking pride in your abilities, laughing with your friends. There is pleasure to be had in taking action to change the things you don't like. Well, I didn't really give myself enough time for this post today because I have to leave for the gym. I do Zumba for fun and Pump class for weight training (read not fun) but it's as important to my Happiness as the blog so no slacking for me! I am happy!
