Grand Canyon

We have been planning on a trip to the Grand Canyon for next spring. When our 5% teams picked this destination I was quite excited.



So now I'm here, all you folks who have been here in person let me know what not to miss!
See-through walkway?
Helicopter ride?
Stay in the park?
Train ride?
Best season to go?
Keep on mind I'm 76 and I'm not getting any younger.... emoticon
Your input to my "bucket list" trip will be greatly appreciated!

    I have visited many of our national parks including several trips to the Grand Canyon (February, April, and early July.). The first time I just wanted to sit at various lookouts and just soak it in - I was so awestruck. It is grand indeed. Have hiked down into the canyon but that was about 15 years ago don't think I could do it again. I would suggest sticking to some of the rim walks. Definitely stay at a park hotel. Ditto - definitely enjoy the 3-D movie.

    Definitely stay in the park, as close to the rim as your budget will allow for at least 3-4 days and plan to walk/hike some of the trails around the rim if you are not inclined to venture into the canyon. I live in the Phoenix area and my favorite time to visit the canyon is in the Fall. If time permits, travel to Williams and take the train into the park. And enjoy!

    I turned 70 two weeks ago and decided to go whitewater rafting for a week in the canyon. I'm so looking forward to it. Out of my comfort zone but it's on my list. Leaving from Vegas in three weeks.

    I walked from the North Rim to the South Rim twice. I'm quite proud of this. First time with Hubby and Brother we walked from North Rim to Phantom Ranch. Second time was with three girlfriends celebrating our 30th year out of high school. My favorite thing to do at the Canyon now is just walk around the rim. Take pictures and enjoy the scenery. It is always changing! They have plenty of rest areas. Also I would take in the the big screen 3 D movie theater. The one I saw explained how the canyon was formed. (I thought the buffalo was going to run us down. Very realistic.) Have fun, take your time, you'll want to go back!!

    Phyllis, we loved the See through walkway. It really depends which direction you come from to get to the canyon though. On our first trip we drove north from Phoenix and I asked the ranger where we needed to go to get to the walkway.....he said, "That's about 200 miles west". LOL

    We made it though on our next trip driving to the canyon from Vegas. We loved both sites and can't wait to go back. All in all, I think we really saw more on the South rim; the drive up from Phoenix was beautiful and there was a larger area open to explore. The walkway was great but there was a long, bumpy ride on a dirt road to get to it, and not much else to do at that site. Hopefully the road has been paved by now; that was about 5 years ago.
