Fall hike along the river

Saturday, September 30, 2017

Linda and I went for a nice hike along the river yesterday, it was wonderful to get out and exercise with a friend. I'm still struggling a bit with coughing, but I am over the pneumonia, WHEW! Doctor thinks my continuing cough is due to allergic asthma and she is sending me to a specialist. I am having trouble with my prescription drug for asthma getting approved by my insurance, so I still don't have it and I am really getting frustrated with HOW OFTEN they turn down normal commonly accepted drugs. (They want my doctor to prescribe something else. This has happened with 3 of the 4 prescriptions she wrote for my pneumonia and asthma).

Back to the hike: Fall colors have started, lots of yellow and orange! And our weather went straight from a heat wave/horrible smoke into the fall chill. I greatly prefer hiking when it is cooler!

I love the view from the rocky point above the river.

I met my friend Pat for dinner, she is back from three weeks in Austria. In addition to sightseeing and going to the opera, she met with linguist friend that is helping her translate family letters that are written in an archaic dialect. Pat speaks modern German, but her friend was teaching her the archaic written form. A very interesting project to learn about her lost family history, from the point of view of unknown Jewish relatives (the cache of old letters were discovered among the papers of her grandmother, who fled to New York after the Nazis took power in Austria. Pat never knew her grandmother had Jewish heritage). Pat is leaving for Nepal next week, after a 6 month followup visit with her oncologist (she had breast cancer surgery 6 months ago). I think Pat is determined to enjoy every adventure she can!

As Pat and I were leaving the restaurant, we notice streaks of pink clouds overhead. We walked quickly to the downtown river park to take photos. The pink color faded quickly, but I'll share my sunset photos anyway!

This final photo was taken exactly 1 minute after the photos above (we quickly walked to our favorite vista) -- and the pink already changed to lavender.

I live vicariously in your hike pictures....Oregon is soooo ruggedly gorgeous! In FL, the vista is not nearly as dramatic nor as conducive to hiking. Glad that you are recovering from your pneumonia; insurance companies are a pain!

    Hi Alison............
If you don't want to name your Health Insurance Company here, write to me in Spark Messages. The Insurance Company I have will cover most drugs ordered. If not, I can have my doctor write to them and give them the reason WHY she wants me to have that specific Rx. Is there a possibility of doing this with your company?

How is Linda doing? When I see that she is walking it gives me great hope. I am concerned about the other condition though.

Your photos were beautiful (as usual) and I especially loved the sunset and also the rock formation in the third photo. Was this formation a natural one or was it a foundation of some kind?

Thank You for sharing....................and have a great Sunday.

Always love your hikes and pics! Beautiful as always! I like the kind of sunsets you caught there...with stripes. I had the same problem with my asthma medicine insurance wants to cover them or you pat thru the nose for them. I ended up with Qvar inhaler, flonase nose spray and i use chlortabs over the counter at WalMart. Plus my rescue albuteral inhaler if I need it. I have asthma that is triggered by allergies. Don't let me get near smoke of any kind...ugh! Hope you feel better soon. ❤

the pink looks like chiffon I love the photos. We will not have a colorful Fall due to our heavy rainy season we had. They are turning brown & falling.Wow that is wonderful about pat's family with the letters, and here knowing she was not part Jewish. To bad her gram did not talk about it so Pat could have ask questions and learned more, but at least she knows some of her new found heritage now. Pat is squeezing every thing out of life she can good for her. You and your friends are great explorers. I am just so happy I have you as a friend to learn of these places and see the photos. I get to look up places on the net to learn more about the areas you always post. I do that with Claire also she lives in France and does a lot of hiking. Have a wonderful Sunday. We are going to Troy Pa. to a family reunion at Mount Pisgah State Park it looks over Stephen Foster lake ( the American songwriter ) I was never there before at that area so looking forward to it & of course being with family .Take care

Please be careful; it is easy to relapse, even if you think you are over it. Takes our body awhile to heal. Been through this a number of times. Beautiful hike photos.
