Fall hike along the river
Saturday, September 30, 2017
Linda and I went for a nice hike along the river yesterday, it was wonderful to get out and exercise with a friend. I'm still struggling a bit with coughing, but I am over the pneumonia, WHEW! Doctor thinks my continuing cough is due to allergic asthma and she is sending me to a specialist. I am having trouble with my prescription drug for asthma getting approved by my insurance, so I still don't have it and I am really getting frustrated with HOW OFTEN they turn down normal commonly accepted drugs. (They want my doctor to prescribe something else. This has happened with 3 of the 4 prescriptions she wrote for my pneumonia and asthma).
Back to the hike: Fall colors have started, lots of yellow and orange! And our weather went straight from a heat wave/horrible smoke into the fall chill. I greatly prefer hiking when it is cooler!
I love the view from the rocky point above the river.
I met my friend Pat for dinner, she is back from three weeks in Austria. In addition to sightseeing and going to the opera, she met with linguist friend that is helping her translate family letters that are written in an archaic dialect. Pat speaks modern German, but her friend was teaching her the archaic written form. A very interesting project to learn about her lost family history, from the point of view of unknown Jewish relatives (the cache of old letters were discovered among the papers of her grandmother, who fled to New York after the Nazis took power in Austria. Pat never knew her grandmother had Jewish heritage). Pat is leaving for Nepal next week, after a 6 month followup visit with her oncologist (she had breast cancer surgery 6 months ago). I think Pat is determined to enjoy every adventure she can!
As Pat and I were leaving the restaurant, we notice streaks of pink clouds overhead. We walked quickly to the downtown river park to take photos. The pink color faded quickly, but I'll share my sunset photos anyway!
This final photo was taken exactly 1 minute after the photos above (we quickly walked to our favorite vista) -- and the pink already changed to lavender.
