Plateus are still progress

Monday, November 13, 2017

I've been stuck for over a month now. I hit "overweight" for the first time in eight years, and my body seems to think that is good enough for now. Doesn't help that the past month has been incredibly stressful with a overly large workload, visitors from out of town, birthday parties to plan, etc. Most weeks I've only been getting 3 or 4 workouts in (I aim for 5-6) and my tracking has been sub par at best. My stomach problems have cropped up again too (probably due to stress) which has thrown me off even more. I have these "goal pants" that I bought months ago -- I could get them on but not zipped -- and I am beginning to wonder if I'll ever fit them. It's been disheartening.

However, if I look at it another way...

10 months ago I weighed 50 lbs more. I was obese and unhappy.
10 months ago I couldn't run. Now, 2 miles are a breeze and I am signing up for my 5th race this year in December.
10 months ago I could barely lift a 10 lb weight. Now I bench 60+ and can keep up with the fittest ladies in my kettlebells class.
10 months ago being "overweight" was a dream. Now I have been overweight for a month and a half.
10 months ago I did not understand proper portions and ate way too much sugar. Now I eat a whole foods based, plant and lean-protein rich diet, and I rarely feel less than satisfied.

I am maintaining during an incredibly stressful time. If I can maintain now, once the stress lifts, I'll surely lose again.

Plateaus are still progress because maintenance is way better than gaining!
