What a weird week.. It's 6.15 am and we have 51 degrees outside. Just a week ago we had 11degrees. How on earth can we get all this up and down in just one week. Well, it's great walking weather so I am taking it.
I discovered this week a new walking stretch for me. As I walk by myself I have to stick to city streets and county roads, which are plenty around my home. I also try to avoid areas where I know the home owners let their dogs roam loose. A neighbor gave me a walking stick and really this gentleman (he's in his early 80's) didn't have to be so nice to me. We barely know each other, but he also walks, just at different times and we chat a minute here or there if we cross path. But we rarely do. He walks at different times, because he says he needs to let his morning pills settle before he can get out there. So the walking stick is to discourage dogs to attack me.
The elementary school is on my road, so I walk after the busses are through and again in the afternoon before the busses come a second time. All other times the roads around here are quiet. What amazes me however is that even when the roads are quiet and there is only the occasional car they don't give two cents for walkers on the road.
So I always look for walks that are away from traffic or side roads or county roads which usually have houses and homes scattered far between. So this week I discovered a stretch that I yet have to encounter a car on. I think so far I got lucky and all the families that live here either don't go out at all or at work by the time I walk. I love this stretch, so far no dogs, paved walk without potholes and most of all it leads in a loop where I can back on my road without back tracking. ...and it's 5 K and a little... I end up with roughly 7500 steps on this stretch.
My afternoon walking stretch is a bit more complicated, it involves a main road, a private road (I have permission to be on it) and a county road that a large intersection and finely another county road. On this stretch I can go as long as my feet will carry me. I usually end up with another 8000 steps or a little over when I choose this stretch. So really my walking is habit and well under control... I now need to get a handle on the food part of all this. Late night dinner last night was so not good for me. Now I am catching up again but hopefully just for a day or two.
