I was in England a few days ago for meetings and stayed in London for the weekend afterwards at my friend Liz’s. As always it was a weekend full of beauty, discoveries, fun discussions and good food and wine!!! On the Saturday, we went to the Kew Gardens to visit the amazing Orchids Festival. I really had to share it with you!
It was just incredible! If you are in London, run there (it ends on 11 March), you won’t be disappointed!
The theme is Thailand (above, a picture of the new King of Thailand), it adds to the magic of the exhibition of course, it feels like being so far away from Europe…
I had seen orchids exhibitions before, but really this one is like no other I had ever seen! It isn’t just hundred of orchids, it is thousands, grouped together, the impact is breathtaking!
There are orchids climbing on the trees (and cascading from them), orchids on little islands, orchids in baskets… orchids absolutely everywhere.
It truly is a celebration of orchids! I don’t know about you but I am sick of winter and these gorgeous flowers were such a welcome sight!
There were orchids of all colours and shapes, we didn’t know where to look (here my friend Liz taking photos… we took LOTS!).
One of the displays I preferred and found the most unusual where what I would call ‘mills’… lots of orchids hanging in circles and moving gently…
I also loved all the orchids falling from the trees! Wow, that was amazing!
Here are some details of the orchids now after these more general pictures.
This one was an orchid I didn’t know was an orchid:
Would you have thought it was one?
After the exhibition, we had a lovely lunch, with orchids on the table of course (and a Thai salad!)…
… and walked around the gardens and visited another exhibition of photographs… It was cold but sunny, a perfect day for a winter walk!
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you are all well! I’ll write more again soon to give some feedback on my goals for 2018 so far. 😊 I have been travelling quite a lot for work (4 trips so far this year) but I am OK!
Have a beautiful week!
