An Adventure:

Monday evening: I was just getting ready to go for my evening walk, it was around 8 p.m., I received a call that my husband and his buddy were stuck in the mud on top of the mtn and they needed a ride back to town. The road is treacherous, windy and rocky and very narrow in spots,, to go the 9 miles up the mtn takes about 30 minutes, total drive 45 minutes. He was buried to the axles and I think he may have messed his truck's back end up trying to get out, needless to say back down the mountain we came intending to pull it out the next day.

Tuesday afternoon: Hubby got impatient waiting for tow truck guy to get off work so we decided we would pull the truck with the burban, so off we happily went. Why he picked the spot he did to turn the burb around I will never know, but needless to say we got stuck about 100 yards from the truck!! We dug and found stuff to put under the tires for traction, b/c for whatever the reason the 4 wheel drive quit working (burb is a '99). Storm is coming and it gets fricking cold we are starting to freak out a bit, and he says better call our son--his phone is dead, forgot mine on the counter, and onstar , we had to buy minutes and can't reach them due to the storm--DUMB US!! So about 6 we decide we better walk out of there, I had bought new boots and decided perfect time to see if they fit not expecting to be stuck and needing to walk, a dumb mistake b/c they are too small!! BIGGEST mistake was NOT telling anyone what we were doing!! So off we start and it starts snowing and maybe 1/2 mile into the walk I chigger my knee, don't know how but it is HURTING--Rod finds me a walking stick and now I am walking very slow, it is snowing, then raining, cold.... We figured we would get to the pavement at 8, then my knee is hurt and it took us til 10! We finally got to houses and he said he was going to high step it, get the car, and pick me up--I said excellent idea, I was barely moving, feet are killing me, knee is killing me, and my hips hurt from trying to protect my knee and feet!!. So he went off the the house while I walked at a snail's pace to the grocery store and waited, he was there in 20 minutes, we walked for 6.5 hours straight ,14 miles!! Only smart thing we did was bring our winter coats, hats and gloves.

Today: Our legs hurt so bad, we have colds, and are exhausted. Lessons learned and they could have been deadly--oh yes forgot to mention we had NO FLASHLIGHT!! My husband at the end says "On the bright side this was quite a feat for people in their 50's not many could do this", my response " I love you BUT this better not EVER happen again!" as I am hobbling along!!

Yes. You really are fortunate that the two of you did not die on that mountain. I am happy to hear that you made it out of there in one piece. Scary. Very. Scary.

I hope you are both recovering and you've been able to retrieve your vehicles.

    Take care! emoticon

Oh my - I was practically laughing and crying at the same time! That WAS an adventure, and one I'm sure you'd prefer NOT to repeat. I have to say, as I read I could completely see this happening with DH and me - realizing along the way that there's one more thing we forgot!
