surprising news from oldest son

Thursday, August 02, 2018

My son had wanted to go to college, police academy and then maybe after few years as policeman join the FBI. This has been what he has said for about the last 4 or 5 years. He graduated 2017 and went a year at local Junior College. He did not do that well only getting a GPA of 1.0. He is 6' 8" and will turn 19 later this month. I asked him today about when he was going back to college, only to be told he has decided to join the military instead. I just hate that I think he feels like a failure because he didn't do well in college. I guess I should be happy that he has another plan. I am worried as do not feel he's ready but guess the military is about making men out of boys. His first choice is Air Force. Not sure what qualifications are but hopefully he meets them. I wasn't expecting this and going to take a little getting use to. He plans on waiting until next year as he has a speeding ticket he wants to take care of first.

The armed services is the best thing as it helps them to follow orders and also helps a person decide if that is what they want.

Wishing your DS luck. My DS was the same way -- never liked high school, had no intents of going to college, started culinary school, but it just was too difficult for him, for whatever reason. Then out of the blue he told us he enlisted in the Army. Lord. But it did help him mature! So, prayers, and keep hope alive.

It sounds like he has a great head on his shoulder, they don't always make the choices we would choose for them, but he has a plan. Be thankful he didn't just quit and do nothing.
