Update on What I Have Been Up To

Wednesday, September 12, 2018

I know it has been awhile (okay.. more than awhile lol) since I posted a blog so thought I would give you all an update.

The hubby and I went on a cruise in Australia earlier this year. It was fab fab fabulous and neither of us had ever been to Australia before. We flew to Sydney and spent a few days in the City. It was easy to get around and the transportation system is excellent. Too many highlights to mention but loved the twilight Harbor Bridge Climb adventure as well as the afternoon ferry ride to Manlly. We then flew to Melbourne where we boarded the cruise which took us along the Southern and up the Western Coast of Australia with a stop in Bali, Kuala Lumpur and disembarking in Singapore. We stayed several days in Singapore before flying home. If you have seen the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” it takes place in Singapore which is a beautiful City. The down side of this adventure was my eating totally derailed and I came home with some extra baggage.

We were only home a few days before I underwent a little previously scheduled surgery. I am one of those “lucky” people that has the BRCA2 gene mutation. This mutation puts you at higher risk for ovarian, breast, colon and skin cancer. I had breast cancer at age 35 so my doctor thought I should seriously consider having ovaries/tubes removed. I’m now 62 and they aren’t doing anything for me so I did that.

Then, after a couple of weeks we left on an extended RV trip to Alaska with two other couples. It was another wonderful adventure. I have been to Alaska before, however only on the Coast. This trip we did the Coast plus inland to Anchorage and then North to Fairbanks. Again too many highlights to discuss but it was fun to go to the Arctic Circle and travel the entire Alcan Highway. The bottom line however, is I came home with even more baggage!

So what to do? I got an invitation to watch the 8 part docuseries “The Real Skinny on Fat” so thought why not. Can I say L.I.F.E. C.H.A.N.G.I.N.G? I was totally blown away with the information presented and the science behind it. We have been fed information our entire lives on health and nutrition that we have just accepted as gospel truth. You know, things like vegetable oils are healthy.. Low fat diets are heart healthy and diabetes is progressive and incurable. If you are interested and want to learn more then part one of the series is available on YouTube for free. I bought the entire series. My husband has diabetes and we totally changed his diet. Over the past nine years since he was diagnosed with pre-diabetes, then eventually full diabetes his disease has progressively gotten worse and his numbers continued to deteriorate. We changed our way of eating 4 weeks ago and in one month he has dropped 20 pounds, his blood pressure has normalized and best of all… his blood sugar has dropped from 170 (full diabetes) to 102 this morning. (100-125 is considered pre-diabetic). If you are diabetic, buy “The Diabetic Code” by Dr. Jason Fung which outlines the program. You can get it on Amazon. Dr. Fung also wrote “The Obesity Code” and I’m going to read that next.

Last bit of news is we are leaving on another RV trip this week-end. We will be going to Rapid City (where I’m running a Half Marathon) then on to Missouri for hubby’s 55th High School Class Reunion. Then we will be going to AZ for a month or so with a side trip up to Sedona / Page with friends. Not letting any moss grow under our feet.

This has gotten pretty long so I’ll sign off for now. I’ll try and give you another update in a month or so with how things are going. Best to you, my Spark Friends and keep on Sparking!

SO nice to get your update! You are RIGHT...no grass grows under your feetsies! I'm going to check out 'The Real Skinny on Fat' and thank you for sharing it! You always give us such good tips on fascinating things. THANK YOU for being so informative!

Today we took a trip to Ft. Myers to my doctor who is a D.O. and much more 'naturally inclined' than most doctors. Since the hubs had the surgery and the cancer scare we are actively seeking alternative ways to boost his immune system. We wanted to discuss some of those options with my doctor today and most likely will be doing high dose Vit C intravenously and maybe another effective ozone therapy also. Of course, I have tons of research I want to do first as these treatments are extremely pricey and of COURSE not covered by insurance. I just sent for Dr. Linus Paulings book on Vit C and Cancer and will be devouring it this weekend. It should get here by Saturday. We shall see what we shall see...but it's always good to be proactive if you ask me and I'd walk over broken glass to find the best help I can for my dear hubs!

That is so awesome you have researched and found help for your hubby also. We are two lucky duckies to have husbands like these...absolutely we are.

I'll keep you posted and I know you will keep me advised also. Hugs to you my friend...thanks for the update!

    Oh. My. Goodness!
So much going on in your life.
    Your vacations sound so awesome...jealous!
The surgery...not so much...but I’m glad you got it done.
I wanted to wait to watch the skinny on fat before I replied but I didn’t want you to think for one second that I was not going to reply and I just this minute have a free afternoon to watch it.
Will add another comment when I finish watching and can process it all.

Wow, a lot happened in your life!
In 2005 I had the chance to visit friends in Australia and I loved the special beauty of nature there.
I'm glad the preemptive surgery is in the past, and that you are well.

Diet (and exercise) changes completely changed my health picture. Though I have not made (and stuck) with the big BIG changes that might revolutionize that picture. I think because I am basically a lazy person, and those kinds of changes require work and determination. It also requires accepting the reality of the situation (gee, that is what my blog was about today) before I can change the situation... and right now I am kind of practicing denial in a small way. And any denial gets in the way of effective change.

Sounds like you have had some marvelous adventures! That’s awesome...
