River hikes

Saturday, October 27, 2018

This week, I enjoyed two nice long hikes along the Descutes river. Each hike was about 6 to 7 miles long, and I really enjoyed the beautiful scenery and hiking with friends.

Today I hiked with my friend Tim who is visiting from Nicaragua, and with Moon. The weather has stayed crisp and cool. They keep forecasting rain, but the storm has not arrived yet. Tim is tired of the rainy season in Nicaragua, so it is nice for him to visit here in the high desert. Each climate and country has its own charm and its own challenges.

We really enjoyed watching Whitewater kayakers. They were very adept at riding the currents.

I still love hiking , even though my knees are creaky and my pace is a little slower!

It looks like your weather is still warm enough to be in shirtsleeves. It has been very cool here and our Fall colors aren't nearly as bright as yours. We received a LOT of rain, followed by cold and a couple of days of HIGH winds which pretty much wiped out our chance for vibrant color. It is good though, in that, it keeps Ken and I inside Jerry's house painting and varnishing. When that is done, we will lay the carpet which I can already picture as looking very nice. I will send you pictures when we get further along.
