Sadly we are inundated with a smoky sky from the fires up north. No rain means perfect conditions for fires and our beautiful state of California has had her share of them the past few years. This recent one is about 4 hours away but due to the winds, we are seeing the effects by the eery light caused by smoke. This breaks my heart.

Bernie is slowly testing his momma. He is acting more assure of himself, testing the waters and I try to nip it in the bud if there are any actions I won’t stand for. His main habit is rolling in the garden, tracking in every morsel of dirt and leaves into my cottage, driving me crazy. But that is what he enjoys, and who am I to put a stop to something that he feels a need for. Especially after meals, he loves to roll around wiping his mouth. My old Golden use to do that on my sofa; I prefer Bernie’s manners.

Today he gets his medicated bath and a trip to where my mom resides for a little visit. The patients there adore Bernie and are able to get their doggie fix. It does my heart good to see what dog therapy can do for people in situations such as a skilled nursing facility. I think anyone with a calm dog should consider registering their dog as a therapy one and visit places like the place my mom is in. Or even hospitals. It gives the dog a sense a purpose and provides unlimited happiness to both sides.

Well, it is time for our walk…enjoy the day, enjoy the moment, just enjoy…..

Bernie is the perfect mascot for your mother's facility. I noticed how much the seniors loved visits from doggies and even a DUCK at my mom's care facility down in Naples, FL. They need the stimulation and the hugs and the 'touch' you know we all need a hug a day for our overall health. Be sure and get your hug Fredie and give them out freely. I hug so many senior customers in my consignment gallery and they ALL tell me how good it feels and how it makes them so happy. I meet so many seniors who moved down here to FL and then lost their spouse. It's so sad it just makes me hug comes naturally but I've always been a huggie bear. emoticon

Ah, dogs rolling in the dirt! Pure joy and happiness! He is happy Fredie and this is his way to show it. I bet he gets spoiled at the retirement home with all these fans!

A cute Xmas or Hanukkah card would be Bernie with your Mom and her friends where she is at in front of the facilities Christmas Tree or Menorah. Bernie wearing a Hanukkah scarf would be cute.

Not too smoky here in Sacramento, thankfully, but I'm keeping a close eye on things because my nephew is at Chico State. They haven't evacuated at this point but he is packed and ready to go. emoticon

Glad to hear that the fires or not close to you, but I feel really bad for those that in the path of it. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have one of those coming at your house.

So glad that Bernie is texting you a bit, that shows that is is settling in nicely. And a good roll in the garden just feels so wonderful. lol Just got to get at that itch. lol

My golden Ginger loved to lie in the dirt. She had a favorite place by the back door to the garage and she would dig and dig until she made it just perfect! Daisy, on the other hand, isn't too fond of dirt and she especially dislikes snow. We had enough overnight to cover the yard, about an inch, and it was only 17 degrees this morning. We went outside as usual, she took care of business and came directly back in. I was right behind her, not a very nice morning. But the sun is shining now, for the first time in about a week. So maybe it will warm up enough to do a short walk this afternoon.

Enjoy your visit with your mom! I would love for Daisy to be a therapy dog but I think she's just not calm enough. Her favorite thing is to look out the front window and bark at whomever might be walking by, outside across the street or the guys working on the road!

It's really too bad about the fires. It is such a beautiful state. We are getting snow like crazy today. "THEY" said a dusting to an inch, and changed their minds after an inch was on the ground and no stopping in sight. We probably have 4 inches now. But they say it will stop in the spring. LOL
