On the way down to the end of December

I gained 10 pounds between February 2018 and October 2018! Because of Traveling, family events and some anxiety producing situations, I allowed myself to make bad food choices and I did not keep up my exercise routine. My weight chart looked like a roller coaster but I just didn’t seem to be able to keep to my program to get my weight to stay down, or was able to keep any weight off for very long. It is very frustrating when you want to weigh less but the scale keeps registering a higher number. A very disheartening place since I had worked so hard to get to a maintenance weight 5 years ago. What is it about the 5 year anniversary?

At the beginning of October I read that “In fact, how much you weigh in October is likely the lightest you'll be all year, with most people seeing a steady climb through New Year's.” This was a real wake up for me. I had been working on trying to get some weight off before we got to Thanksgiving but had not made a really strong commitment. I started the Fall 5% Challenge in October with a written commitment and a plan. Every day for 8 weeks I stuck to my plan, even through Thanksgiving.

The Fall Challenge is over and I am down 6.5 pounds since October. I did it by sticking to my plan, tracking my food, making healthy choices, doing some exercise almost every day and being realistic about how much I could lose. I plan to continue through to Christmas and will be back down to the top of my maintenance weight by the end of December.

There are parties and family events and I will have fun. But I have scheduled exercise in for most every day and I will eat all my favorite foods just not too much. I am being realistic about my weight goal, one pound during the entire month is realistic for this time of the year. In January I will begin the Winter 5% Challenge and will lose the last 3 pounds to get to my acceptable weight.

As I read somewhere, life is short eat dessert first. Just not too much. Have a great December.
