truth is funny?

New class at the senior center today called Would-Be Writer Workshop. We were in a small room but a lot of people came to the class. Found out that the class will run for 2 instead of one hour. Today class ended a little early because none of us knew it would run until 5. We did 2 assignments in class today. I thought she was going to have everyone read what they had written but she only called on those who volunteered. The first was to write a first sentence to a fictional news story that answered Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. Most wrote more than one sentence to answer the questions. She praises everyone's work mostly. The second assignment was to write a descriptive paragraph on your favorite meal being prepared. We were to include things like ingredients, taste, smell, procedure, color, quantity, sound and utensils. Everyone laughed at mine. I think the teacher thought it was a joke but I'm no cook so this is fact and not fiction. Most of the students wrote about a restaurant meal or someone else doing the cooking. It is ok to laugh but it is sadly true.

It is pasta night. Put the spaghetti in the pasta cooker with enough water to cover the pasta, Put into the microwave for 3 minutes. When the bell rings, stir the pasta and put back into the microwave for 3 more minutes. Get the pasta bowls down and put 5 frozen meatballs into each bowl. Once the pasta is done, put one bowl of meatballs into the microwave at a time and cook for 1 1/2 minutes per bowl. Open a can of spaghetti sauce. Drain the pasta and pour the sauce over the pasta. Spoon the pasta into the bowls of meatballs. How heavenly the whole house smells making everyone even hungrier. The golden brown meatballs peek out of the yellow and red of spaghetti and sauce.

As homework we are to rewrite this or write another paragraph. I am thinking I might try to write a poem about this and some stuff said in class. We'll see how that goes.

Almost weekend everyone so enjoy.

Love it and that is more ambitious than most of the cooking I do!

That sounds like fun and a little like the creative writing I used to teach at school. I love writing and am glad I have got back into blogging on here. It’s good for the soul!

The Would-Be Writers' class sounds like lots of fun. Years ago, in a class I was taking, we had to write directions for performing a task. To get a passing grade, the teacher read what was written and the student had to follow the directions they had written. It was obvious that many did not try it at home. When I was teaching, I had my students write instructions on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. That one was good for lots of big laughs.

Friday is on the horizon and brings snow for us. Winter storm warnings are already posted. Ugh!
