Commitment is Key!

Committed means feeling dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity, or job; wholeheartedly dedicated.

The cause- Lose weight and get healthy.

When we think of commitment we usually think of our relationships, such as a spouse, family member or friend. However it is possible to be committed to something we are sitting our minds to. When we are committed in our relationships we do everything for that person to make sure they are happy and we continue having a healthy relationship. In my marriage I made a commitment to my husband the day we got married. I committed to being there with him no matter what. Sure we have had times when it has been really tough but we worked through our issues so we can continue our commitment that we made.

It is funny to think that we often make commitments with ourselves, to get healthy, to lose weight, to quit smoking, or to stop drinking but then those commitments are thrown away as quickly as they are made. I would think the "divorce" rate among our personal commitments would be around 90%. We wouldn't allow this in our relationships so why do we allow this in our personal lives, in our personal goals.

I think it boils down to a mindset. In a relationship our mind is focused on the person we made the commitment to. When I have to decide on what to say or what to "fight" about I often think about how it will affect my husband. If we start focusing on our goals like they are a person, which doing these goals will turn us into a new person, we will start focusing on it and not our own personal wants and desires. Just like with a spouse or friend, we should stop and ask ourselves how will this affect them.

My goal is to lose weight and to get healthy. To get there I follow a KETO eating plan. I have found out that sugar is not my friend. being I made a commitment to myself and to my goal I have to stop and ask myself- How would this piece of cookie cake affect my body, affect my goal. Is it worth it? If something I am doing has a negative affect on my relationship then I won't do it. Commitment is serious and something on the other end of that commitment is depending on me to make the right decisions.

My commitment to my goals means that I will be healthier, life longer, set a good example for my kids, be there for my kids, enjoy life and lastly look and feel better. There is no other key to making this work other than COMMITMENT! Commitment is KEY to everything in life.

    Oh my goodness! I was just thinking about how I need to commit to my plan of eating and exercise. Your statement "...If we start focusing on our goals like they are a person,..." I think is the answer to me - I have committed to many relationships and weathered through bad times as well as good times. With my goals, I often just toss them aside when times get just a bit tough.

    Just this morning I was thinking about my needing to commit, really commit to my plan to achieve my goals -- reading your blog this morning was just what I needed to read.
