The Big Red Challenge

A week ago Saturday I participated in the Big Red Challenge. It's similar to a spartan race. It had a total of 27 obstacles. There were over/unders, carrying tires, pulling up a weight in a cart, over/unders while carrying a sandbag, over/unders where you can't touch the ground, six foot walls, eight foot walls, going over six foot bars, a rope climb, the soloman ladder, other bars that you used your arms to balance along, crawling over round hay bales, bear crawls, belly crawling under strings, and carrying ammo containers up and down stairs, all on a 7k course. I should mention I was on a noncompetitive team that was helping a lady, that is a paraplegic, conquer the course. She did great and was very happy with her performance.
I, too, was very happy with how I did. I couldn't do the rope or soloman ladder. I tried the rope twice and did a chin-up on the soloman ladder. I also skipped one of the eight foot walls after I did one. As a team, we could help each other, but the focus was on our friend. I was so glad that there weren't any burpees if you didn't complete an obstacle. I think I did finish 24 out of 27, if I remember correctly.
I was so glad that I had been doing a Group Power class. I felt better prepared than I would have been without the class. I was very surprised how much shoulder and grip strength was needed. I need to work on the grip strength!! I have a new appreciation for Ninja Warriors!
We finished up the day with most of the competitors doing 22 push-ups, which I did, to represent the 22 veterans that commit suicide every hour. I was glad that I was a part of such an event.
I hope everyone is moving happily and challenging themselves.
