It's the little things

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

Today after work I decided to go check progress on my tomatoes. I don't check every day because fortunately once they're in the ground they are fairly low maintenance plants. Well, guess what? I have tomatoes coming already! They are just babies, but I was so excited to see them! Around here, they normally come in August, so they are early this year. With my Mom's homemade salsa recipe I can't wait to get cooking.

Mom's recipe is for canning...she's a canner, I am not. She does pickles, peaches, salsa, grape juice, applesauce, apricot jam, dilly beans and more. I love the idea of preserving in glass jars but I'm not about to buy a canner, store a canner, or buy all the jars and lids or go through the long process of doing it. No sir! So I will convert her recipe to something I can pour into ziplock bags and put in the freezer. It's a very good recipe, so as long as I use the ingredients in it the results should be about the same.

So those little baby green tomatoes kind of made my day today. Oh and I also found a cute tortoise retro Calvin Klein frame second hand to put my next set of lenses in. As it turns out, they're little too. Big glasses don't work for me, which makes it hard to find glasses I like since the big ones seem to be eternally in style. So yep, it really is the little things! emoticon emoticon

Kudos on the tomatoes!! I absolutely love the smell of ripening tomatoes fresh on the vine! .. Used to have a garden years ago---but I think my green thumb got gangrene! .. Or something! Know what you mean about canning'--did that many years ago, and while things taste wonderful---it is SO much work and cleanup so I stopped doing it! {Sorry I missed you blog when posted---and once more I am going to try hard to catch friends blogs---even subscribed to your blogs but oddly---I still seldom get the reminder} .. Anyway, hope yo hve a wonderful weekend up north!

I am so happy to hear about your tomatoes. Yum! Nothing tastes better than fresh homegrown tomatoes. Post a picture when they are ripe and beautiful! I will enjoy them vicariously. ;-)

I'm limited with what I can grow what with the move etc. Today I went out to check on my plum tree and it looks like it's going to be another bumper year. One of the upsides of the move now likely to be late August is I should get to pick the plums.

One of these years I will do tomatoes. We just have so many deer that eat things. They ate the middle leaves off of the tree we planted for my daughter. It is still pretty though. I grew up in Jersey with great tomatoes, and it is hard to get good ones at the store. "Cherubs" tasted really good the other day though.

I have never thought of a freezer salsa before. That sounds like something I could handle. I’m definitely going to have to look into this. Thanks for the idea.
