What are you gaining?

Ever have to put your scale in time out? Maybe lock in the closet for a while and let it think about how it's hurt your feelings lol. So something I'm learning to cope with is when you are going along great losing those pounds week to week; you are eating within your guidelines and kicking butt at the gym and suddenly... BAM!!!! YOU WEIGH 5 POUNDS MORE OVERNIGHT.
It's taken a lot of experience and attitude adjustment for me to deal with it. In the past I would have used that as an excuse to let the doubts creep in and believe that it doesn't matter what I do...I can't lose the weight. I'd say well this isn't working so I might as well eat that pizza I've been wanting or go get an ice-cream sundae tonight after work. That's the old me though.
The new me still rolls my eyes and gets a tiny bit discouraged but then I take my middle finger and show that scale that I'm the boss and if it can't accurately reflect all the work I'm doing on being healthier, then it can take a hike!!! lol I know we need it as a tool but if you let your whole day or mood be ruined because of that number... then put that thing away and only bring it out occasionally.
I'm excited about this "new to me" ability to stay consistent and not give into the doubts and excuses. And I'm learning to shift my focus when the pounds aren't coming off. Sometimes you have to remind yourself what you are GAINING in your life because of the healthy changes. For me, right now I'd tell you I'm gaining strength, endurance, mental toughness, more space between me and the table in the restaurant booths, more space when enjoying my baths, more confidence in achieving goals, more speed when walking, more compliments from people taking notice, more gratitude for my blessings. WHAT ARE YOU GAINING??? Seriously, tell me!
