The great divide

Sunday, September 15, 2019

Our county and those to the north and south of us
are now divided by a flooding situation that we have
not seen before. Half of our school students, teachers
and staff are on one side of the river and we are on
the other. All of the bridges are flooded and roads are
covered in water. There are few direct routes left until
the river goes down. We have 4 Hutterite colonies in the
area. Two are completely flooded and all of the residents
have been evacuated. I don't believe there is a single
building in either colony that is not underwater. They will
have nothing to come home to. The other 2 colonies fared
a little better but not much. We know there will be no school
on Monday as there is no way to get everyone here safely.
There is only one bridge open in the county south of us so
you need to know how to get around or stay home. There is
a wonderful century old "stone" church that is threatened by
the flooding as it sits close to the river. The members have
removed the furnace and sandbagged as much as they could
but water did enter the basement. They are hoping to save
the structure but no promises that they can. Life can be hard
but do the best you can. We pray for better weather and drier
conditions. Life will go on. HUGS!
