It’s Motivational Monday! It’s been a week since we set our new monthly goals and, hopefully, you took last week’s suggestion to review, evaluate, and revamp your goals for this last quarter of the year.
While you have approximately 85 more days to accomplish your yearly goals, I can almost guarantee there will be obstacles, detours, and more that will “test your mettle”, and sometimes you will unpredictably slide off into the ditch.
Here are a few tips that will help you to navigate these bumps, potholes, and dirt roads as you strive to move forward to your final destination for this year. Begin by Visualizing your day.
• Visualize Your Day
Visualization a.k.a daydreaming is a very useful tool. Use all of your senses, and be as detailed as you can. Start small - begin with visualizing one thing; for example drinking your 8 glasses of water per day, or enjoying your exercise routine. Feel the emotion as you move through your visualization. As you practice, you’ll become more adept, and you can add more visualizations, or “fine tune” your visualization.
• Be Mindful.
Stay in the present moment during your day. This allows for greater focus, and prevents your mind from thinking about what you still have to accomplish, or where you have to be, or any other distractions.
• Protect and Preserve Your Energy
Don’t forget to nurture yourself as you move forward. It’s OK to cancel a commitment, to change your mind, to spend some time alone, to take a day off, to let go, or do nothing. If you find things are just too stressful, or overwhelming, take a step back to preserve your energy and give you the needed strength to continue again tomorrow.
• Finish the Day, and be done with it. Take it one step at a time through one day at a time.
• Do one fun thing just for you each day.
This will make sure you inject some endorphins into unexpected moments in your day.
“Laughter is to life what shock absorbers are to automobiles. It won’t take the potholes out of the road, but it sure makes the ride smoother.” ~ Barbara Johnson
Why not focus on practicing these during the week. Start by doing a visualization tonight before going to bed. Tomorrow, do your visualization as soon as you can in the morning, and then try adding mindfulness to the rest of your day. Wednesday, do the first two, and do something to protect your energy, and then continue through Friday, adding the next tip.
When you have completed all five, adding one per day, see how you feel. If you need more practice, focus on those, without neglecting the others. Go at your own pace, but you should find it getting easier.
Good luck, and thanks for stopping by!
