dog 1, fence 0

Something that I wish I'd noticed when buying this house is that all the fence is on my side. There have been a 2-3 times that a section of the back and right side have blown down and I've paid to get it fixed. Once the right side was knocked down when a tree in my neighbor's yard which had died fall down and the neighbor had it repaired that time. The fence on the left has never had to be repaired (although the pack of dogs have dug under it a few times and the neighbor fixes to keep their dogs in. So the neighbor on the right have grandkids who have broken some of the boards in the fence and I feel that I shouldn't have to repair that damage. Now they have this really large Pit Bull type dog and he has broken several boards especially ones already damaged by the grandkids kicking them. The neighbor has replaced a couple of boards and tried to fix it in places but if the dog want to it can brake through. The dog seems friendly enough but you never know and especially with my little dog when he is out in back. Today while we were in the house their dog broke through and ran to the opposite fence to try and get to the dogs in the other yard. I went over to my neighbors to let them know about the dog. Looked like they had everyone out front having a BBQ. I really feel that my neighbor should fix the fence but to be safe there needs to be a new strong fence put up. I wonder if to be safe in our own yard if I should just bite the bullet and see about a new fence on that one side. Christmas has been good but I never went out for my walk and it is dark now. Maybe I'll march in place for 10 or so minutes while watching TV. I have been watching Christmas movies that I'd recorded and I think I have one or two left. My sister called along with my brother to wish us a Merry Christmas.
Hope you all had a great day and count down to New Years will soon be here.

Sorry you are feeling threatened by your neighbors dog. It’s the owners responsibility to control their pet.

I would get an estimate on repairs and on replacement. When you talk with your neighbors, I suggest you tell them that they need to contain their dog or you will have to report the situation to animal control. Since their dog is aggressive towards other dogs, it could cause serious damage which would be much more expensive than the fence. Leave it to their imagination the ramifications of doing nothing.

Perhaps they will see your need for a reliable fence as the cheaper solution.

Oh goodness, the neighbors should definitely pay for the fence repair, but wonder if they will. And the 2nd thing would be even if they DO how long will it last if their grandkids damage it and the pit bull! That would make me pretty furious.

I agree w/SPEDED2 -- if they won't pay for it, I'd take it to small claims court. Most villages, towns, have ordinances about keeping dogs like pitties controlled.

    Good luck!

I'm terrified of dogs (attached by a German shepherd when I was 10). I'd have a concrete wall with hog wire underneath. I agree...the neighbors should pay for the repairs, but if they haven't offered, it would probably take small claims court.

It's so nice to talk to family especially during the holidays. It sounds like you had a good Christmas.
Have a good tomorrow. emoticon emoticon
