ONE GOOD THING!
Oh, how my heart yearns to find just one good thing amid the turmoil our world is facing.
We are in a genuine crisis -- so
Where can I find One Good Thing to sustain my hope?
Well, yesterday I stumbled on an amazing “Good Thing” happening in a local high school robotics group. As a team they had worked and trained all year for the spring robotics competitions, but like so many things, the competitions were canceled to help limit the spread of coronavirus. Nevertheless, these students didn’t give up. They began looking for some way they could help.
As the need for more Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like face shields and eye masks became known, the team decided to offer their skills.
"We just want to help out where we can, and making things is kind of our expertise. So we're making face shields", said Gabriel Guo, the Camas High School team president.
Now students are working from home, using the team's laser cutters and 3D printers to create eye shields and face masks. So far, they've created and donated 550 eye shields to local health organizations. They are currently finalizing their design for face masks.
Students say this is what the robotics team has trained them for. Now, they're able to help in a time of crisis.
"It gives us a sense of purpose. We're using the knowledge that we've gained from robotics to actually be helping in the real world", said Ayla Crowell, a member of the team.
Wow! Doesn’t that lift your spirit? It’s wonderful to know such good things are happening.
And I know there are many more out there. No matter how hidden they might be, I’m going to keep looking for "1 Good Thing".
