If you are home with a partner who doesn't beat you, be grateful. Every 9 seconds in the US a woman is assaulted or beaten. In 60% to 80% of intimate partner homicides, no matter which partner was killed, the man physically abused the woman before the murder.

If you are reading this you have Internet access that allows you to find help and socialize with friends, be grateful. 19 million Americans—6 percent of the population—still lack access to fixed broadband service at threshold speeds. In rural areas, nearly one-fourth of the population —14.5 million people—lack access to this service.

If you have enough food to eat, be grateful. 1 in 6 American children may not know where their next meal is coming from. 15% of families living in rural areas experience food insecurity, compared with 11.8% living in suburban and metropolitan areas. In 2017, 40 million people struggled with hunger in the United States. With 10 million people losing their jobs in the last two weeks, this number is growing.

If you have health insurance, be grateful. About 44 million people in this country had no health insurance, and another 38 million had inadequate health insurance. With massive increases in unemployment, this number is also growing.

If you have a place to live, be grateful. About 553,000 people are experiencing homelessness in the United States and about a third of those are unsheltered.
