The Gift of Art - for Relieving Stress

I like doing art. It relaxes me and takes me away from stresses of the day.

I’m not talking about creating something to put on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I mean just plain old get out some paper and colors and

GET MESSY!

The kind of art that says I’m going to enjoy the process of mixing and cutting and pasting and then be surprised at the “happy little accidents” that show up.


That’s why I like using watercolors. Even if you have a plan for what your art will look like - the water often makes its own pathways and design. It’s nice to see how the colors flow and blend.


Sometimes it comes together into something you recognize - and that’s nice too.


Some days I like to scribble doodle,


some days I like to use coloring pages,


and some days I just like to let other people's art speak calmly to me.



The style or the materials really don’t matter.
For me DOING art is a primary de-stressor.
What a gift.
