BLC Summer Slimnastic Challenge Is Almost Here
Saturday, May 30, 2020
It is almost June and the Summer BLC Challenge is just around the corner. The spring challenge is over and I have had time to assess how things went before I move into to summer.
Overall, I did very well keeping with my program. I had 2 big obstacles: I was on vacation in Florida the first 2 weeks of the challenge, and also the Covid pandemic and self isolating.
Even though I enjoyed lots of my favorite foods while away, I promised myself to eat lots of salads and not just lay on the beach the whole time. So we made a pact to do 20 min. of simple ST exercises every morning before starting the rest of the day. That really helped keep me focused on SP, yet still have a nice vacation.
The self isolating was very difficult when we returned to the cold and the snow (which did not end til mid-May). I definitely did some emotional eating to comfort myself, but I knew that exercising would really help my mental health. So I continued my ST and added aerobics or a walk most days, and I continued to build muscle. There were lots of days when I wanted to skip my exercise or only do 5 or 10 minutes, and then I would remember how I always felt better after I did some kind of workout. Some members of our team are into fairly rigorous training, but that’s not my style now that I am older. Consistency is what works for me. If I skip more than a day doing some kind of exercise (other than a rest day) I get right back on track.
Now I am ready to start the summer challenge with some momentum.
