On the Path Again!

Friday, July 03, 2020

On June 27th, I got back on the path to wanting to lose weight and get healthy. My top weight was 334. I lost 70 lbs on SP before, but then I broke my back and gained most of it back. I got back on SP again recently and lost some weight so I was at 299.6 but SP does not count the tenths, so they showed me at 300. I did not get really serious until June 27, 2020 and was 297 lbs. I am so happy that I am out of the 300's and am determined to never go back there again.

I have yo-yo dieted the majority of my life. I am 67 years old. I had an appointment set up with a bariatric surgeon on July 6th, but I decided to cancel the appointment. I was not scared of having the surgery, but I just really want to do this without it. One of my many friends who have had the surgery sent me a picture of what his doctor has him drinking as part of his daily routine. It is SlimFast Advanced Nutrition High Protein Shakes. He had the surgery a year ago and has lost an incredible amount of weight in one year, but he has to take vitamins, drink these shakes and eat a limited variety of foods for the rest of his life. None of my friends who have had the surgery, regret it, but there are some side-effects that can be unpleasant.

Anyway, back to my point...I decided to try SlimFast for 2 meals a day. I actually really like it. I am also eating one meal and eating snacks some. They suggest 3-100 calorie or less snacks a day. I usually cannot eat that much so I usually just eat 2 snacks. I also added calorie-cycling so my amount of calories each day vary. So far, I have averaged a little less than 1200 calories a day. I have added intermittent fasting as well, so I fast 16 hours and eat over an 8 hour period. I have found that it has been easier than I thought it would be to do that. My one meal and snacks are very healthy. I am staying away from processed foods and refined sugars and eating just fresh or frozen veggies, I am now starting to do some low-impact exercises. I started with just 10 minutes a day and am gradually increasing that. Tomorrow, will be one week and I will weigh. I was only going to weigh once a week, but I did weigh on July 1st because I was starting a challenge. I had lost 2.2 lbs in 4 days. Tomorrow, I get my weight for the whole week. I am just going to take measurements once a month.

I am glad to be back on Sparkpeople and wish that I had never left. I love it here and everyone is so encouraging. The food trackers, fitness trackers, daily nutrition reports, blogs and videos here are awesome! I am also loving my SlimFast Together Facebook page and the great support there. Many people use tracker apps and I have looked at them, but for me, Sparkpeople is definitely the best! Thanks to all of you!

I like the fact you can be accepted back and it is a journey and sometimes it takes baby steps in the journey

It is a Journey, not a race - as you know. You got this and you are back on track, that is what matters. Just keep moving forward. Best of luck to you on your journey. emoticon
