Tomato Day

Friday, August 14, 2020

Today I sold some stock and cashed it out. I think I might buy a truck. There's just so much I want to do that requires hauling more than my small SUV can fit in it. We each have our own cars in this family and I really don't want the truck as an extra, because it's just inefficient and too many vehicles on a property is unattractive. I know my youngest would like a truck so I offered to buy him one if he'd get rid of his current car. Well, he's a car guy and really likes his current car, so that was a big no. Then my oldest said we could just get a trailer and put a hitch on the back of his car because he's got the power to tow it. While what he said is true about his car's power, it certainly created a funny visual. So we all had a good laugh about that. So now I'm back to square one with being torn between wanting a truck and not wanting an extra vehicle. Decisions, decisions!

Today we had BLTs with fresh. sweet. juicy tomatoes from the garden. They were delicious! I tossed a cherry tomato into the chicken run and at first they all jumped and scattered away from it. Because it was RED! And red means danger or maybe a poisonous snake curled into a tiny cherry tomato shaped ball! They suddenly quickly changed course and came running back to it, for no known reason, and then fought for it. Lilly won and tore off toward the coop with a tiny red cherry tomato at the tip of her beak making herself look very much like Rudolf the Red nosed chicken dashing through the run. She threw it into her coop and the others came running and it was hard to see who finally got it, but they made short work of it. So I'd say they like tomatoes! That's good because I am going to have tons of them.

The weather is definitely summer now and it's been warm. I baked some cherry turnovers before 8 this morning and am glad I didn't wait until later because the sun really heated the kitchen up. So now baking hours will be limited to before 8am or after 9pm. I never thought I'd be a morning person, but I also never knew that it just kind of happens naturally with age. Plus I have to get up early to let the chickens out anyway. Can't have them cooped up for too long. So early morning baking will do just fine. Tomorrow I'll make some lemon poppy seed muffins for the boys. A dozen will be gone by midday around here.

Have a great weekend spark friends!

No AC at your house? If I feel like baking, which is rarely if ever these days, I just crank the temp down a degree or two, bake away, and crank the temp back up. Not good for energy or the environment, no doubt, but it makes my life easier, so I crank away. However, I have an abundance of wrinkly apples in the fridge at the moment, so I, looking in my crystal ball, see apple crisp in my future.

My large son of the oh so large appetite is actually in the process of moving out. He has already taken all his stuff out of my fridge and transferred it to the fridge in his new home (sharing a house with two other guys). I don't know what to do with all the space in my fridge! However, he did take the eggs with him, which nearly caused me a cooking disaster. He just hates eggs, won't eat them for anything. However, he was forced to buy some because I was out, and he was baking a birthday cake for his girlfriend. And, because he had spent his money on them, he took them with him. I, knowing how much he hates eggs, figured he would never take them with him. And in the middle of making my daughter's no-bake birthday pie, which called for three egg yolks, I discovered that there were no eggs in the fridge. Chaos - and a major argument - ensued. And I thought how nice it would be to have my very own chickens, like you.

Good luck with your vehicle-buying decision!

But, did they eat any of the buns from yesterday??????? Maybe they are watching there carb. intake, and veggies are still on the menu. lol I drove a Dodge Dakota for many years, it was a small pick up, and I loved it. Still love driving a Pick Up, but they now are harder to get into as they are getting them so high off the ground. Hubby Ford 150 is almost impossible for me to get in.

My boyfriend and I moved across the country with a big trailer on a Toyota Matrix... It certainly looked ridiculous, but it worked! You have such lucky chickens!
