Here we go again

Friday, September 25, 2020

Having whittled down my list of potential houses to look at, I planned on contacting the various Estate Agents today to arrange viewing appointments.  First though I needed to check with Peetee what sort of time he expected to be here on Thursday.  Suddenly - Lockdown!  Not UK wide.  The current modus operandi is for certain areas to be put into lockdown if there's an increased incidence of the frigging Fizzy Flu locally.  Today it was announced that my area would be in lockdown from Sunday evening.  I can't tell you how tempted I was to go jump on a train back 'home'.  I didn't though because, well, so many reasons really.  I don't know how it will affect my plans to get work cracking on Base Camp again.  Hopefully I'll still be able to get the garden/patio done - not least because it is actually unsafe.

On the upside, I did some more research on the houses I was interested in.  I've deleted the one I liked the most because of the area it's in.  It has the potential to be a lovely house with a large garden but exploring the surrounding area I realised it's on a HUGE very unattractive estate.  Lots of alleyways, stairways, and grey concrete.  It's a shame because the roads and pavements are wide, there's green areas where children could in theory play safely, and the houses will be solid and well built.  But sadly I know the reality of such areas.  Or the perceived reality.  Which means letting the house, or re-selling would be difficult.  Not worth it I'm afraid.

Back to the drawing board.  Came across a little house about 5 minutes walk from Base Camp.  Cash buyers only because of course there's Welsh Knotweed in the vicinity, plus the place needs refurbishing.  I've done my 'homework' though and reckon it has potential.  I plan on calling the Agents tomorrow to see if I can get a viewing arranged.  If so, I'll take LOADS of pics and flip them over to Peetee.  He's said if I view it and REALLY think it is promising, he'll channel his inner 'Dominic Cummings' and come and take a look at it.

Travel for work is permissible and I will be paying him for the day so perfectly legit imo.  "I don't want to talk to anyone else though" he told me.  "That's OK, they don't want to talk to you." I replied.  If it comes to it, he'll yak away with a million questions and funny comments.  He has such a way of drawing people out and gleaning loads of info.  You have to watch yourself with that one - he'll charm your pants off unless you know him well.  As I do after 40 years.  emoticon

I'm feeling frustrated but looking for the positives as ever. Some of which I've already figured. For a start - Elaine can't hassle me to get my dresser and treadmill moved from her garage. "Sorry Elaine, no one's allowed in or out.............". Although I will need to renegotiate how much I'm paying her given the reduction in space I'm using thanks to her wanting stuff shifted out.

One bridge at a time though eh?

Bright blessings

Ok, I had to google Welsh Knotweed (google calls it Japanese), which sounds godawful, but, really?
Is it a dealbreaker for a house or can one not pay a professional to eradicate it?
    Is it that invasive?
Sorry the lockdown may hinder your house hunting but I hope you are able to at the least get those outside jobs done.
