NOW I REMEMBER WHY . . .

I don't personally have a treadmill--doubt I ever will. I have a dear friend who has "jogged" on her treadmill for years and swears by it. She has stayed fit and trim through the birth of 5 kids and several other pregnancies as well. And . . . the mother of some dear friends of ours is 105 and counting . . . gets on the treadmill EVERY DAY RELIGIOUSLY. I've seen her do it. I guess that's why she's 105!!!

Nevertheless, walking outside has some distinct advantages, and I've been reminded of that this week. You see, my friend with whom I'm staying has a top of the line treadmill in a side room. Well, my hubby uses that as his "reading room," and I've sometimes used it as an exercise room where I can make a fool of myself in privacy. SO this week I decided it would be a lot more fun to walk in the comfortable AC, so I hopped on there ready to tick my walking off my list! Well . . . ahem . . . it doesn't feel natural . . . and I have to pay attention. Now, while I'm sure all that can become normal and routine, there is one thing that won't change. When I've had enough, there's nothing to keep me from stepping down and saying, "I've had enough." And . . . I confess I've done that every time I've gotten up there.

Just to make sure I didn't fall by the wayside, God brought in a cold snap so that I could keep walking outside without sweating through all my clothes and having sweat irritate my drain hole. Yep . . . He's on me. I headed out the door--have really enjoyed exploring my friends neighborhood and noting all the interesting touches this house or that has. Usually that means I'm walking just a block or two more . . . or just around that next curve . . . or just over that rise. Today, after following my inquiring mind, when I turned around to go "home" I realized that I had walked a REALLY LONG WAYS. Whew! I was kind of achy, and more than a bit tired. NEWSFLASH! This is EXACTLY where I would hop down of the treadmill and say, "I've had enough." Nope. COULD NOT HOP OF THE STREET AND BE HOME, as sweet as the thought seemed! I had to walk ALL THE WAY BACK!

And that, my friends, is why I've always decided to walk it instead of tread it. Once again, "now I remember why!" LOL!

    I wish the rain would stop. I wish the cold fronts coming through would slow down. Three in a week is too many. I love walking but with my foot and hip I've been sidelined too much. I can walk all the time. Put me on the treadmill & chest pains

    I share your sentiments. I prefer to walk outside, Or if weather is too cold, I will do a video with Leslie Sansone. They are vigorous and fun, but the treadmill is a drag.

    I have tried the treadmill but find walking much better and actually easier. But that has come to the end here where as if we were in our winter home, we could be walking again as long as it's not too hot which I keep track of.

    I really really hate treadmills but love walking! I noise, the feeling of the tread, the never changing scenery... Nope, not for me. I'll happily join you on team walking outside, even if it's not as convenient!
