November 7

This was the "Long Run" for my half-marathon training; however I walked the whole distance to avoid straining my left heel/ankle. The run-walk-run coach and writer, Jeff Galloway, says it's about building the endurance for time on your feet and legs. So I put in the time!

November 14

Last Saturday's "Long Run" was part jog, but mostly walk. I'm not sure if I'll work on increasing mileage walking, or focus on increasing my jogging time relative to my walking time. I think the weather will be the deciding factor on tomorrow's "Long Run."

DH and I spent today setting up our outdoor fire pit; we have 6 large pine-stump stools/tables surrounding the metal pit we bought at Lowes today. Moving those pieces of stump was quite a workout for DH and my brother. We had to have two huge, 60 year-old Ponderosa pines taken down by the tree services because they were a safety hazard for my brother's home. Hopefully the next wind storms with micro-bursts will not snap the tops of the remaining pines which were pruned to avoid windsail.

If distancing from friends and relative continues, at least we will be warm and cozy in the backyard. I have decided to change my attitude toward winter. Normally we'd be snow-birding south, but because of the pandemic, we're staying put on the farm where it's easier to avoid people without masks, and people in general. Since DH is Norwegian and from North Dakota, I decided to "channel" his heritage and the Norsk attitude toward winter. I'm making every effort to embrace "friluftsliv" and adopt the attitude that there's no bad weather, just bad clothing. I have to say, my 4-layer face masks, make walking and running in the wind so much nicer. And I am also here to say, "Yes, you can exercise hard in a face mask and still breath. I'm at 4200 feet above sea level and it's easier than hiking mask-free at 9000 feet above sea level."

That is the one plus of wearing masks, they keep your nose and face warm.
