Some subjects are easy to teach and easy to learn. Once you learn the basics, you move on to the next skill, and the growth is fairly planned out. Life skills are different for me. I have a great curriculum that I use, but lately, I find myself circling back at the beginning. While the skill was learned on a basic level for one student, he was not able to fully understand it, and now after working with the curriculum for 5 months, I'm back at the beginning.
The goal with life skills is not to finish the book but to prepare a student for independent adult living as much as possible. Life skills are the skills that we take with us wherever we go in life. skills like understanding self-determination take time to apply. I find that sometimes a student may not want to make big decisions about his life. Choosing a video game is an easy decision, but setting a goal for his life is very different.
Maybe it is the same for most people.
