“He died that day because his body had served its purpose. His soul had done what it came to do, learned what it came to learn, and then was free to leave.” (Garth Stein, The Art of Racing in the Rain)
Hello, my lovely friends!
One day after turning 97, my Grandpa passed away peacefully in the morning. He passed away around 12:20 P.M. while my aunt was in the room with him and talking to my mom on the phone. My aunt knew something was wrong because he looked different when he woke up and his breathing was different. She asked him if he was getting ready to die and he said yes. I think she called us about three or four times in the morning with updates. The final time she called the two of them were talking and my mom asked her if we should come down and then I heard her say he’s gone. The two of us got ready and we went over to the house. My other aunt and uncle were there as well. He looked so peaceful and his face didn’t look in pain anymore. We brought Scooter with us and I’m pretty sure he knows what’s going on. He was so quiet at the house, on the drive to and from, and has been quiet all night at home. I held him up and he just looked at him and probably wondered why he wasn’t giving him some love. You know dogs sense these things and I think he knows.
On Thursday we went over there to celebrate his birthday. He stayed in his bed, but he was talking here and there. We even sang “Happy Birthday” to him. He had a really good birthday, he saw his loved ones and others called him. It was everything he wanted. I truly believe he waited until the next day to pass because he didn’t want to on his birthday. I’m so glad that he was able to celebrate his birthday the way he wanted it. I know that he’s already up there dancing with my grandma surrounded by all the dogs they had together.
I’m going to take a small break, but the blogs will still be here because I have a few already put together.
Be safe and well! Lots of hugs and loves to you all!!!
