Hi to everyone here new and old. I’m doing well and getting to my goals slowly. I want to be more consistent this time and stay in my weight range once I reach it, and I want to firm up. I eat fairly well and do excercise, but I need to do better in both areas. I just turned 41 and have just returned to work after a year off. I want to go back better than ever and keep getting better. No looking back. Good luck to all.

I am new SP. I am 47 years old. I have been dealing get with my weight, as of right now is 196 Lbs, and my goal is 185 Lbs. Stress has been my trigger to not eat on the run. I have had some ankle, knees and hip injuries. I do get exercise and steps through the Fitbit, where I get 15k to 25k a day.

Hello to all! I am new to this site and look forward to many positive experiences. I am 47 and was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 4 years ago. At that time I decided not to just change my eating habits but my exercise ones as well. I slacked off this last Fall (tweaked my back) and Winter (knee scope). Time to get back at it and need a little help. I look forward to this Team and all I can learn and give back.

New to the app, I turned 41 in Sept. I am usually underweight, but I seem to get out of shape around the holidays. I can't stay motivated to stick with a workout routine. I am not as active anymore. Due to hip arthritis. Generally I choose low carb meals and try to eat somewhat healthy on a regular basis, but I also require lactose free recipes. Need the motivation to get toned again.

Hello! I am turning 43 in November and am looking for additional support in losing my last 10 to 15 pounds. My weight loss journey started on February 28, 2016. I weighed 168... my highest weight ever. Since then I have lost about 25 pounds. I currently weigh between 142 and 145, my weight fluctuates a lot. Looking forward to learning and sharing tips and losing the weight emoticon

I am 44 and will soon be 45. I have just had a hysterectomy and prior to the surgery I gained about 15lbs and my highest weight I was 150lb. I am holding all the weight in my mid section and I am frustrated that finding clothing is becoming difficult. :-( I feel better since the surgery but not healthy yet. I have been stress eating and then get upset because of it. I have a time management issue with work and time to exercise. I can usually find a balance but I have been behind since surgery and struggle to catch up. Sigh, I don't care about my age I just want to be healthy and fit again.

Weight currently 145lb-

Hello. I turned 40 this year. I have never been overweight, but I have gone through ups and downs of being 'in shape' over the years. I struggle with depression and motivation. I've been in a slump for several months now. Stress eating has gotten out of control. Ready to get fit again. I used SP a few years ago short term, just to track and get a handle on what I'm eating. Hoping to use SP to help me with meal planning and portion control. Looking to lose about 10 lbs. and get my energy back.

Hi I've been on SP for 30 days now (I only know this b/c logging in it showed me a spark streak trophy). Anyway, I'm in my late 40s, and just kinda tired of feeling and looking mushy in the middle. Winging it hasn't been working so I figured, why not be more methodical about it? I've tried food diaries before but I've never kept it up until now. I could see a LOT of improvements to the website and interface, but as far as the features go, it sure does work for me, so I can't complain too much.

I want to lose 15 lb. in 15 weeks, and I'm on track for that after 3 weeks. I keep reading that 1 lb./week, for most people, is healthy and reasonable if one wants to make permanent lifestyle changes. I don't believe in diets; I already eat pretty healthy. I'm just calorie counting so I'm eating less.

I found out that I get actually a lot more exercise than I thought - I walk nearly an hour a day to and from work, and sometimes more if I walk to lunch! I also found out that I am terrible at estimating what things take up the most calories. Bread and pasta sure are "expensive," calorie-wise! emoticon So are walnuts and olive oil, even though they're good for you!

Anyway, best wishes to everyone who wants to be healthy in mid-life!

Hi All!
I used SP years ago to take off 40 lbs and have kept it off for four years. I really thought I had my nutrition and exercise routine down. But I turned 40 this year, and all has changed, and changed so much! I feel like if I just look at a baked good I gain five pounds ;).

I've never been a big fan of diets, I'm more about everything in moderation. So I'm happy to find a group of motivated people on here, as I feel like I need some inspiration!

Though my scale weight is mostly the same (give or take 1-2 lbs here and there) ALL my clothes are super tight. So my goal is to get my clothes fitting better, and to get back into regular exercise.

Happy to meet you all!
~Kay

I don't think you do have to eat more. I believe if the quality of the food you eat is good, and if you are satisfied, you can put down the fork.

I am 49 and am finding as I age, that is harder to maintain my weight. It is slowly creeping up. So I am here, hoping to gain some motivation and to get the weight start going in the other direction. I don't have a lot to lose but need to stop the trend upwards.

Hi, everyone! I am a returning sparker...lost 30 pounds the first round and then got waylaid by life. Since then, I've put every pound back on, plus a few. So this Texas is done and determined to get rid of it all for good! I have been married for 24 years and have two sons, ages 15 and 10. I've been teaching in the same school district for 21 years now but have left the traditional classroom this year to provide special services for dyslexic students and gifted/talented students. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

hi.
i,m new to this site. ive been dieting/ exercising since the end of may as i was told by the doc to lose weight or lose my migraine pill. so far i have lost 27lb, but its getting progressively harder as the night kick in. also what i,m wondering about is this calorie thing. the main page says 1200-1550 without excerise but it jumps up if you workout. do you HAVE to eat more if you excerise. this seems to defeat the object if you need to cut calories?

Hi everyone. I am Robyn, 45 and from Vancouver. I have lost 20 lbs so far, through Sparkpeople (log my food in everyday) and from running and going to the gym. I gained 30 while battling cancer (lymphoma) at the beginning of the year (bad eating, no exercising and chemotherapy - not a good combo!), happy to have most of it off and even happier to report I am 6 months cancer free :-). I am finding losing weight in my 40s so much more difficult then when I was younger. Its slow going!

Looking forward to being a part of this group :-)

Hiya all!! My name is Jenny. I turned 40 in July. I have to admit, the thought of being 40 has actually scared the crap out of me. I am tired of being over weight and want to be with my husband for a long time. He is a year younger than me, lol. I live in Lakewood, Colorado. Thats just outside of Denver, Co. Would love to find anyone that would like to walk with a starter. I don't mind a group either. Let me know!!

Greetings, team! Okay, I admit that I am not quite 40... but I'm really close and having been a member of the 30-somethings groups for a bit, I find it hard to relate with a lot of what they are going through. I started my family young; my children are 19 and 14, so I'm not dealing with daycare and babysitter issues anymore. I think the grocery store plays really awesome music these days. Sometimes my joints ache for no good reason. I'm starting to plan my next move around what states do not tax pensions. I'm a widow, I'm a divorcee, I'm now remarried. So, yeah... not too much in common with a lot of the 30's crowd anymore.

I have done a pretty good job of maintaining a 75 pound weight loss since my early 20's, but I'm having a difficult time with these "vanity" pounds lately. Unlike my younger years when I could just drink a ton of water every day OR exercise OR eat very healthy and always in moderation to keep my weight in check, I now have to do ALL of those things, which feels like a lot some days!

I'm 42 and fabulous emoticon Seriously... Turning 40 was the best thing to happen in my life. Kids are grown (21 and 17) relationships are easier, freshly "retired" from work, plenty of time to just take care of myself... Can't ask for more. Just maintain this healthy lifestyle and go back to running.

Hi everyone! My name is Carmen and I'm 49 years old. I lost around 15kg in three months last year and am trying to keep it off.

I spent 15 years on some sort of diet and have tried them all. I always regained the weight! Very frustrating.

Eventually I just bit the bullet and decided to do portion control + exercise and the weight started to "magically" drop off. It was quite spectacular and I'm still not used to seeing the new me.

Ideally I'd like to drop another 2-4 kg because my fat seems to have taken a last stand around my belly area. I look OK except for this belly.

Trying to maintain since losing 15 kg in 2013.

My name is Mirdza and I'm new to this community. I was a BeachBody coach, and though I still recommend their videos, after prayerful consideration, I've decided not to be a coach anymore. I have been looking for a good online fitness community to track my fitness journey and meet with other like-minded people, and perhaps this is the place to do so.

Hi Fab 40's, been on this site for a month and have never introduced myself. I am married and
just turned 50 a month ago. Over four yrs. ago I decided to lose some weight and to tone my body. I lost 25 Lbs. and have been able to keep it off through diet changes and exercise. I love being part of the SP program as I find it gives me some added motivation and keeps me honest in my goals of maintaining my weight and exercise program.

Hi all,

I am a married 48 year old with a 15 year old son. I have lost over 20+ pounds in the last 3 years. It is a daily struggle, but I have been successful. The key for me is exercising every day. When I started, I could only muster about an 8 minute workout, but now I am up to 25 minutes a day. I have been a SparkPeople member for four years, but haven't really taken advantage of all this site has to offer. I want to keep motivated, eat healthier foods/cook better for my family, and enjoy the 40 something skin I'm in.

Hi, just joined yesterday on a recommendation of a WW friend. I have lost 100 with WW and just need little boost to my motivation. Like dating someone for a while, you just need to add something to the working relationship.

Anyway, I live in Central Florida and teach Medical Assisting at a local Technical Center.

Hello, I'm new this time - I remember finding this site years ago and have no idea why I tapered off. I am involved in my companies Wellness Program so I'm starting a team for them, but I really need to get back in shape too. I used to work at a YMCA, and since I had to quit I haven't done anything for me. It's been almost 2 years. I've had 2 knee scopes, the last one being this past Nov, and I've discovered that I love hiking, especially in the Smokies when I can get there. I just joined a city run family fitness facility, so hope to get going on some machines and swimming...though I now have a torn bicep tendon, so will be starting sloooow. :) I am definitely enjoying this site and can't wait to share it with others!

- May your paths always lead you to warm sands.

Hi Fab 40's! I've been on SparkPeople since 2009 and successfully lost 40 lbs - however, due to LIFE getting a little too chaotic, loosing my father-in-law - more like father for me - I simply stopped tracking and stopped exercising. I'm back to tracking foods and exercising again - which feels GREAT; I log in all week then I don't log in on weekends due to not having access to the full site to log everything but I do watch much more carefully :0 ) I was excited to find this team - I have a birthday in about a week so I need motivation to continue making my 40's fabulous!!

Greetings and Welcome Terbear 78. I tried the kickboxing video here and my glutes, hams and thighs felt phenomonal as I broke out a sweat. Looks like I should try the healthshakes then too. Thanks for sharing. Good luck on your journey

Hi, emoticon I have decided that it is time to get healthy and fit. I would like to lose about 10 pounds but I am really hoping that I will be able to regain the energy that I have lost over the last 10 years. Hopefully others on this site will have some good pointers for me. I have recently started the Zeal Challenge by using their protein shakes and nutritional drink and it definitely has been helping. I guess the nutritional drink is all natural ingredients and is suppose to help support your body's natural functions.

Has anyone else heard of or tried this product and if so, what do you think? If anyone is interested, here is a link to the video that persuaded me to try it.

I am also looking for some great exercises for toning my thighs, stomach and bottom. If anyone has some great ones I would love to have you share them. I was browsing through the different ones on SparkPeople and I can't wait to try some of them out.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Greetings Debmarin. Classes or instruction videos always seem to work best for me. I found joining or watching others doing what I needed doing to be more motivational. Also, the expense of a video for home or an occasional short term class of likable sorts compared to a gym membership, which usually has an extended contract, was more affordable. Then of course, here at SparkPeople, there is some great fitness instruction and advice for free. It has been very uplifting for me in only 3 weeks time. Either way, all 3 of your options given would benefit your overall fitness plan and I wish you the best in making the needed time commitment in a busy life. I believe it all comes down to what we prioritize in life that will ensure our success in any venture. Good luck!

Hi DEBMARIN1, Welcome to the team. I'm originally a Buffalo gal, but transplanted myself to the Seattle area almost 30 years ago. A few of us are tracking our progress for the month of February and I hope you'll join us.

Greetings and salutations. I am a Fab late 40's gal from Western NY, Think Niagara Falls, Buffalo and snow! My goal this year is to get fit and toned. I have been "out of shape" most of my adult life, luckily I have managed to maintain my weight for many years, but my muscles have been gone so long I forgot what they look like. So this year I plan on focusing on strength training. The part I find hardest is getting into a pattern that feels natural, like it is part of my day. I find I am trying to "squeeze it in" to an already busy schedule, so I end up going 3 days in a row and then not for a week. A month of this and I noticed I am getting frustrated and annoyed with myself, which I know doesn't help the situation. All the while I am trying to sort out...do I do classes at my gym or free weights or do I just use the weight equipment? I hope all of you can give me the "spark" I need to focus on my plan and my goal and remind me to stay on track and make the journey.

Hi everybody. My name is Dana Nguyen. As of today, I am a part of Fab 40's team. I have joint SparkPeople for a long time but never did anything to become more healthy. Now, that I was just diagnosed of "diabetes", I don't think I can afford to take my life lightly. So, here I am. My weight today is 124 (I am 5"4) and I am trying to get down to 105 and maintain it there. I know it will be hard for me to lose 19 pounds at this age, but I heard it is critical for me to lose weight when I am diabetic, plus I will look fabulous at this weight anyway. So, it is like "killing two birds with one stone!", and I am up for the challenge!

I will keep you guys updated often about my progress.

Would love for everyone to be my friends on my facebook as well. My name on FaceBook is Dana Nguyen.

Wish me luck.

Hello WCoast. It sounds like you are doing great in getting close to your goal. From what I am seeing now, setting goals is ultimately the best approach for many of us in getting out of places we don"t want to be and closer to places that we do. I like it. I will try to use your example of first thing in the morning goals, day by day. Good luck on your journey.

New to this board as of today, and pleased to be able to say I weigh 126, my lowest weight in over three years. I seem to look and photography my best at between 116 and 118, so that is my ultimate goal, though I'm going to work to get to 120 first before I make any 'official' changes on my SparkPeople goals page.

I find that setting daily goals first thing when I wake up has been tremendously helpful in staying on course. I enjoy reviewing my goals before I go to sleep to see how I did, and knowing I'll be doing so is helping to avoid the late night nibbles I've been guilty of doing far too often.

Hello. I am new to spark and this team. I am over 40, have two teens and ready to start working toward getting back into the swing of things, on a more self caring level. I managed to keep up with an exercise routine after joining spark about 3 weeks ago and get back to my beloved yoga mode. My eating habits are horrible though. I barely eat healthy foods throughout the day and pack in the junk food at night ... doritos are my fave.

Yet, I have spent most of my life "underweight" and at about 5"9" and 130 pounds, I can certainly afford to "gain weight!" This has been my challenge. I thank you TBOLES4 for being someone I can most relate to! I have read that women over 40 tend to fill out their bellies most by nature, with the major factor being "stress" and hormonal changes. I don't know if this is where you are, but, I, too have put on some extra pounds there myself. If it will help, I will say that I started doing some regular situps to try and lose some excess belly fat and regain improve the six pack I had before children. The only difference would be the numerous stretch marks that came with the children ... oh well. No results yet, but I will let you know it if worked. Good luck!

My goal then would be to GAIN weight, which I would like to see as muscle, and maintain my lean physique while I reach 140 to 145 pounds. I would also like to stay away from eating too much meat these days, since I have noticed the internal belly discomfort when I do eat it. I like it, but, it no longer seems to work for me. Any suggestions, ideas recipes or appropriate exercise moves that may be helpful will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for being here. Have a great day!

Hey, there, DIETFREELIVING!! No, you're not on the wrong team :D I say you're more than welcome to consider this 'your' team - the 40's are what they are, and it's always better with a big group to commiserate (or celebrate!) with!!

I think we all have a lot to learn from each other, and a lot we can teach each other. Our goals are basically the same - get/stay/live healthy as we journey through this decade of our lives.

Please hang with us if this is where you want to be!!

Have a great day!!!

Hi Everyone, I am 43 and I feel like most of the posts I was reading could be me. I have two children and work full time. I am on the short side so I feel like the extra 10 pounds are a lot. It has been a few years that I keep fighting with the weight. I refuse to just accept the extra pounds. So here I am ready to stay strong with eating healthy and looking for ways to bring more activity into my life.

HI! I am 41 and have an almost 4 year old. I have managed to stay within a few lbs of my goal weight for the past few years but suddenly gained 5-7 lbs in the past few months (I am up 10 lbs over last year) and I am very frustrated that I can't seem to get it off. I know it has everything to do with more stress with my job, longer hours, not enough exercise, slowing metabolism, but I want it GONE. I still "fit" in my clothes but not as comfortably as I would like and although it is just a number...I HATE seeing anything past 129 on the scale. I am 5'4" and want to get back to hovering around 125 as soon as possible.

It has been quite awhile since I have been active on Spark, but perhaps this is just the boost I need. :)

HI - I am in exactly the same boat! I have always been super thin but now at 42 have some belly fat. I also have two children. I acknowledge that I am fortunate in that the amount of weight I want to loose is small relative to most, but I am uncomfortable and cant shift the extra kilos. Good luck

Hello,
I am 43 and used to be considerably underweight. I hit 40 and I am not sure what happened. It is good that I did gain weight after trying my whole life, but now I weigh a little to much. I have mostly belly fat and would love to get rid of it. However, I have had 3 kids and several abdominal surgeries since the age of 33. For awhile I did try and blame the surgeries for my belly looking like I am 5 months pregnant (no joke, my belly is very round, kind of looks like I swallowed a cantaloupe or something), but the last few weeks I have put on several pounds. Last week I weighed 124 and this week I weigh 131. I can't fit into my clothes because of my stomach. I have cut calories and am exercising now, I just hope I see results soon. I am looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi KEEPGOING46!!! Keep going!! I totally believe its the consistency not perfection that's going to work for us in our 40's!! I've just started my running again, 5k 3 or 4 times a week (thanks to 2 very good girlfriends who convinced me that I wasn't too old to run again!!! Love u guys!!) & now my hubby is joining me too!! My brain much more hooked into my program with regular exercise back!! & yours will come back as the ankle heals!!! Love SparkCoach!!

Hello. My goal sounds very similar to Joanne's. I put on about 10 pounds due to an ankle injury & have been doing the yo-yo effect trying to stay on track with my eating & exercise to get back to where I was. My husband was threatened with the skinnier me, so he doesn't seem to help & I've noticed that during the day I can reach my goals without him being around. He is a keeper though as we've been married for 25 years, it's just hard sometimes & this is what I struggle with currently. I was at 26.6% body fat in March & now in July I'm at 28.6%. Looking to lose 10 pounds & get back down to my 26.6% body fat where I left off. I am going to school to be a Health Coach & currently sell Shakology. This product has replaced my multivitamin & some of my much need nutrients for the day. I've been using it for 2 years. I've used it as a snack, meal or just a nutrient/vitamin replacement. It's really helping me recently stick to my better eating & exercise goals. Check it out: http://www.teambeachbody.com/nutrition-sha
ke/shakeology
Even if you don't use it I hope we can all share our thoughts & concerns of what's going on with our daily challenges as I feel like this group is a good fit for me. Thanks for listening! Have a great day!

Hi everyone, I'm Jane. Just joined up yesterday. I'm 42, and now I've found out what people mean by middle-age spread! I've put on a few extra kgs - and for the first time in my life they are around my middle rather than on my butt. So - time to make some positive lifestyle changes.
Also looking to alter a work-life balance that is currently a bit too focused on work and causes me to forget about my own wellbeing.

Hi, Grayce, here. 44, crazy busy ( 4 kids, diva dog, work full time, traveling husband) but determined to pursue health and fitness, not just for appearance's sake, but to stay healthy and active well into my senior years. Have a gym membership and finished a 12 week session of TLS last year that really made a difference in my eating habits. Trying to get back on that wagon again!

Also trying to build habits that translate to my family - I want my kids to grow up with a good example of how to make fitness and health part of every day. I'd love to have healthy, home cooked food every day ( a work in progress!!) and get my kids in on the work so they have that down pat when they're on their own.

Hi! I'm new to SparkPeople & I'm 46. I have a rich, busy life: I work full time and have a family--husband & 14-yo son. My blood report came back with high cholesterol so I'm extra motivated to lose the extra 5 or 10 pounds that I carry around and exercise every day. I love food. I simply eat too much of it. I Need to learn to eat slower and more mindfully. I go to the farmers markets and cook and love to invent and share recipes.

Good morning everyone! I signed back into Spark today after a year of not using the pages...in the meantime I put on 7 pounds that I'd like to drop. I know why I gained the weight and I know how to get rid of it. Just need to move my body more, eat smaller portions, and get back to tracking. I love using Spark because it helps me stay mindful without causing me to become obsessive, which is NOT how I am or want to be about my weight or fitness. The big challenge for me this year was dropping my gym membership because of the cost. I thought I could get enough exercise on my own without going to the gym but that has not been the case. I'm not willing to give up though! This morning a friend and I agreed that we will meet three mornings a week to walk together for an hour. Starting that on Monday. I know it will be a big help.

Cheers,

Erin

Hi! I'm Lisa. I live in Olympia, WA. I decided about 6 years ago I needed to lose weight & lost 60 lbs in about a year & have successfully kept it off. Unfortunately, now I am starting to experience some very unpleasant health problems that I believe can be managed with eating healthy & exercising. I have kept the weight off for the last 5 years and (mostly) eat healthy. My problem is the exercising. I get all gung-ho, but without anyone to stay accountable to I just lose interest & stop after a short period. I am really looking forward to meeting people who have similar goals. I was on Spark for the time that I lost the weight in the first place so I know how encouraging & supporting environment this is and am really looking forward to getting involved with others that have ideals close to mine. I also want to help you become & stay healthy. Blessings!

Hello Everyone,

I have been working on fitness off and on for years. I used to be able to eat whatever I want. After 38 that all changed. I am going to be 42 next month and for what I hope to be the last time. I have to lose five or so pounds but it has become a hideous battle.

Thank you all for your support in advance.

Welcome to the team! emoticon I've seen a photograph on internet somewhere that shows a person running I think, and the caption read: "There is someone who's working out right now who is much busier than you!" emoticon What I liked about it was that being busy shouldn't be an excuse, like so many others me and others use, to make healthier choices.
So, start with the baby steps, and you'll find that walking the stairs, parking farther away from stores and so on adds up in activity. There are also quite a few articles on spark that give suggestions for superbusy people. Take advantage of them emoticon emoticon
