I am 43 and have 53 pounds to lose. That's a lot of pounds and I am doubting if I can accomplish it. Having others to compare notes with will be helpful to me and I want to offer any help I can to other team members.

Hello, notvsire this is the group for me, I actually have much more to lose but setting goals in smaller amounts so can achieve something. As long as y'all are okay with me setting and reaching my goal till I reach my ultimate goal I'd be happy to stay a member. This looks like a friendly and active group.

@Erin, hello and welcome :0)

I believe in you.

My name is Citron. It is a girl's name of French origin meaning "lemon". My grandmother named me before I was born because she had sewed me many lemon yellow baby clothes and blankets.

Hello TARA6181 and welcome to our team. Congratulations on your weight loss success! Thanks for sharing with us what has worked for you.

You have found a wonderful website that has a lot of information. The LEARN tab and the CHALLENGES tab are full of the kind of tips you are looking for to continue your weight loss journey. In particular there is a Calendar Challenge called The 30 Day Plateau-Busting Challenge that guides members through a fitness routine designed by professionals to bust through that plateau.

The MY TRACKERS tab has useful trackers such as "my Nutrition" . Click on this and scroll down. You will see where you can choose "Show Meal Plans". It will give you meal plans that are developed by nutritionists to keep your food and drink choices in line with proper nutrition. Your goal of calories, fat, carbohydrates, protein, etc. are found there. The Reports also offer a wonderful Weekly Grocery List.

I hope you enjoy diving into all this information and let us know your thoughts and experiences as you follow the advise you find.

Hi I was asked to join your group I'm 45 yrs old.I was @ 205 pounds I am now @ 161 pounds according to BMI I need to be 140-130 pounds to be healthy.I lost the weight by joining www.MyFitnessPal.com this was 4/28/2017 I hadn't heard of www.SparkPeople.com til now.I tracked my calories for a week & I was eating 2,000-2,400 calories.I drastically cut my calorie intake to 1,200 calories & I started taking SlimQuick Regular Strength.I also changed my kitchen.I bought Fat Free,Reduced Fat,Sugar Free items & bought Healthy Choice,Smart Ones,& Nutrisystem Meals from Walmart. The weight came off drastically I was losing 1-5 pounds a day.Best of all NO EXERCISE & NO SIDE EFFECTS.I thought I have to share this info.with everyone.I tried Lipozene made my stomach hurt & no success, same as for Hydroxycut stomach didn't hurt but no success.I would for Breakfast have 200-300 calories then a Snack 100 calories, then Lunch 200-300 calories then a Snack 100 calories,Dinner 300-500 calories then a Snack 100 calories.I got off of SlimQuick for 4 months & only 7 pounds came back.I was so excited. My lowest weight was 153 pounds.Right now I'm 161 pounds as I am talking to you.I've been at a stand still.I walk here & there around my neighborhood 2X a day if I can.I read an article saying to eat more calories.I eat when I feel hungry mostly though I am sticking to around 1,400 calories a day but no weight loss.I've been off Slim Quick & I'm thinking of trying it again or maybe some other different diet pills like CLA Carnitine,Acai Berry Cleanse or Skinny Gal.Thanks for any helpful info.Have a wonderful day

I'm a typical American. That description of myself is short but to the point. I am determined to reach my goal weight at the time SparkPeople has set for me to reach it. My trackers, the articles, the recipes, calendar challenges, and really doing these things are important to the things I want to do.

Hey there friends,

I'm new to this group but not new to Spark. I've been around for about 10 years off and on. At one point about 9 years ago I lost 30 pounds, I turned 40 and felt like I was at the top of my game. Then 45 happened and it all went down hill, yes I mean it literally went down hill, lol. I'm now 47 and just can't get myself together. I have some hip and foot issues going on but I know that I've felt better with exercise. I'm hoping by joining this group it will help to motivate me and realize I'm not doing this alone!

I'm great with others but can be brutal to myself (I'm sure most of you know what I mean). I need to get back to the grind and stop whining and doing nothing!!

Hi! Just turned 44 and happy to have lost 30 pounds in 6 months. But I had plateued 6 months ago and gained 10 lbs in the summer. Thankfully, I lost the 10lbs, but I'm back to plateuing. Hopefully this team can help me lose the last 10 stubborn pounds.

45 year old male, father of two, happily married. I have been stuck 20 lbs or so over weight for too long. I practice plenty of good habits and I am quite active. However, I also love food. And beer. And wine! I know it is the latter two the consumption of which I must control. Bad snacking as well. So here goes nothing ... which will hopefully become everything!

I am 41 years old and the mother of 3 year old twins. My diet, sleep schedules and exercise routine have all taken a real beating in recent years. I have no lofty goals right now, I'm just trying to take the steps needed to start shifting the momentum back toward fitness. I'm starting with a return to SP, logging food, and adding short bursts of exercise throughout the week (10-15 minute walks, 7 minute scientific workout, yoga mommy & me style).

Sleep should probably be my first priority, as my lack of sleep has been negatively effecting all aspects of my life, but man, it's hard to get to bed when there are dishes to wash, and laundry to do, and meals to prep, and the only peace and quiet you can find is after the dinner/bath/bed juggernaut has rolled you the *eff over.

Anywho, "Hello, fellow quadragenarians!" The last time I was respectively active on SP I still fit into the 30-something group. My age may continue to go up, but my weight doesn't have to.

Hi! I'm new here! I have a thyroid problem and rheumatoid arthritis which doesn't help with weight loss, but I'm mainly here to see if I can make eating well and exercise a habit. Of course, losing weight would be great but at this point I'm looking at the big picture. And I'd love to make some new friends!

Hi Twin Otter,

I can completely relate to that thought, well, I started dieting so I will magically lose all the weight in three days AND going totally overboard the first few days and then crashing.

I'm 43 now, and have about 10-12 lbs to lose. Not that I'm feeling too overweight at the moment, but there is a huge fear of becoming obese and diabetic like pretty much my entire family. I like to keep it in check, and I do feel better about how my clothes fit when I'm a few pounds under where I am now. I'm learning that the things I used to do to manage weight don't quite work as well after 40, so I have some new experiments to do.

I'm here because I need to get a little routine and stability in my life over the next few weeks. My mom had a stroke over the weekend and I have quite a bit of caregiver stress at the moment. My usual routine of exercise is thrown off, since I'm at the hospital as much as possible without giving up too many work hours - thinking that while she is in care, I can work, but when she is home, I may need to take time off. And then just stress, period. Trying not to over or under eat and generally take good care of myself.

Hello! I was once in the 30s group but I wasn't very active and in the meantime, I somehow aged. I am 42 and last week I weighed in at the highest I ever have.I sat down yesterday and wrote my goals in fine detail. One pound a week, as we all know at this stage it's very hard to lose much more in a healthy manner. I have rewards for me at certain goals (like a new swimsuit!).

I'm struggling with a few things, all mental. I weighed in last week at 138.4. I made a half-arsed attempt to work on it this last week but had some friends in town, drank more than I ever do, didn't focus on exercise. When I made my goals yesterday I wrote my start at 138 knowing that is realistically where I still was, but my dumb brain had hidden hopes it didn't reveal until I weighed in at 137.8 today. It somehow thought I magically lost more despite not eating well or even really trying. So I'm trying to let it go. First. losing .6 is .6 less! Second, I knew where I was, my goals are set starting at 138 and at least I didn't gain weight! I can't get so in my head that I give up.

Then there is the other side that is thinking "Ok, let's eat two carrots a day and run a 5K every day and lose 2-3 pounds a week! Get there faster!" Yeah, I've tried that. It fails spectacularly for obvious reasons.

I also struggle with motivation. If I have a goal, I reach it. Period. I am a very goal driven person. So laying this out as such - how much to lose each week, what I expect to weight, etc, is good. But my motivation in my head is also dudes. Which is weak and lame. I have to do this for myself because as a single woman in her 40s, the idea of getting fit to attract a man is just stupid.

So better, less vapid goals: My goal document has a pic of me at my goal weight, and a few other women similar height and weight and physique. I want to fit into a new swimsuit. I want to move into my new home at the end of April at that week's goal weight. I want to feel fit, maybe even sexy, for me. None of this are super inspiring though. Working on it... OOOH, the new house has access to a pool.

There is not one big cosmic meaning for all, there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person. -

Hi there! I used Sparkpeople twice to take off 20 pounds of babyweight, and this time the "baby" is FOUR. So if I am going to fix this middle-aging trend and call it just a baby thing, it needs to be now!! I am trying to get to healthy BMI.

Hi Everyone,
I am almost 40, all my life I've been the same size and what is now termed 'skinny fat', this year has come with a slew of health problems and stress and I've gained about 6-7KG (15-17lb) over my normal weight (56-58KG).It happened due to binge eating, mostly sugary stuff. I have only ever done cardio before and never consistently, although I was slim I was very unhealthy living on sugar, caffeine and nicotine. Oddly enough after giving up smoking in February this year I had such extreme stomach problems that I lost 5-6 KG and it stayed off as I was unable to eat properly for just over 6 months, my digestive system is better now but I still have a lot of problems, anyhoo I got so upset with not being able to eat and all the pain I started to live on blended foods then just ice cream and frappes, it went from there, I am a sugar addict and this time I couldn't stop, so in reality I've put on much more as I was 5-6KG under my normal weight when this all started. I have been thrown into early menopause as well this year, lost half of my hair and have awful acne :( I'm in a bad way physically and emotionally and hoping to try and heal body and mind. I've started strength training this week (I'm insanely sore already!) Hoping to connect with like minded and those following macros , doing strength training, in a similar situation etc... I'd love a good beginner strength workout recommendation, I'm following Bodybuilding.com's 30 day beginner program, but it is still too advanced for me, I can't even do one push up let alone 60!! xxx emoticon

I just put this spreadsheet together for beginners to track macros as a complementary overview to Sparkpeople or myfitnesspal, tallies weekly macro and caloric intake - look at a week and months progress quickly, loss/gains tracked, macros added up for weekly numbers and percentages averaged. I hope you find it as useful as I do!

I have been struggling to lose weight for some time now. I think being active in a team will help me be more accountable for my weight loss. I am starting that accountability by posting my tracker with actual weight rather than pounds to lose. We'll see how this goes. My goal is to start the year at or near my weight goal.

Welcome to the team. I have been bouncing between 5-25lbs to lose. It cant hurt to be a member of more than one team.

I welcome any suggestions you have to the group.

Hi to you all!
This was one of the teams suggested to me by Sparkpeople.
Actually, last week when I started my journey, my goal was losing a bit more than 24 pounds. I decided to lose 10-13 Kg - anything between 24.5 and 29 pounds - but now my goal seems less far away, "just" 9-11 Kg to go - 20-24 pounds - so I can quite rightly be a proud member of this team, if you accept me

I'm an old newbie...lol...I joined Spark about 10 years ago, and I have been on here at least a few times a week on my teams, looking for recipes, motivational stories, etc. However, I have hit the magic number that so many women hit where weight gain happens, and you have to increase your exercise and decrease calories even more to stay at a healthy range.

Ok, let me officially introduce myself. I'm Debbie and live in Middle Tennessee. I turned 48 in July. I have been married since 1988. I have two adult children, a girl, 28, and a boy, 27. My son is multi-disabled, but he is hoot and a laugh a minute, so please don't tell me you're sorry. He is healthy and happy, and I am blessed.

I work as a caregiver 39 hours a week with a special needs' adult who went to school with my son, and I also work as an aide on a special ed. school bus since 1997.

I enjoy walking, having parties for special needs' individuals, coaching Challenger League(ball for special needs' children and adults),

Hope to meet lots of new friends on this team. Looking forward to this journey....again.

Deb

Hi folks,
Happy to be joining to get support and advice and hopefully give some too. I have gone very low carb over past 6 months - my stomach feels amazing. I have plateaued now- pretty sure it's all the yummy red wine I drink. Need to lose 10-15lbs.

I'm already quite active but with summer here I'll get out running more. Just need some inspiration to eat better, why does wine and beer have to be so delicious. Not to mention ice cream.

Summer is hot...I want to be too

New to this group but not new to SparkPeople. Nor am I new to Weight Watchers or low carb or any other dieting. I am a 47 year old woman that is struggling with losing this weight. I think that I have tried everything in the book and still can't seem to get this weight loss right. I try one diet and then have a squirrel moment and try something else thinking that the new plan will be "the one". I have been back and forth between calorie counting, weight watchers, and low carb so many times that my DH calls me "squirrel". I think that I have come to the conclusion that the best diet is the one that makes you the happiest and the one that you will stick with.

I am hoping that I find the support here that I am craving and learn from those who have successfully lost the weight or at least are on the right track.

Add me as a friend and we can support each other...

I'm new to this group and I'm 43 years old, plus eight months post stroke I had in July of 2016. I went on Remeron anti depression medication and it caused me to gain a bunch of weight, plus I quit smoking due to the stroke and been crVing a lot of carbs. All other meds they tried me on gave me migraines almost every other day and totally not worth it. I'd rather be a little bit chubby and have my mental health than stick skinny like I was last year, pre-stroke. I'm still committed to healthy eating and I've gotten back into my workout dvds and hand weights which are still difficult to do due to hand paralysis from my stroke, but I've got enough grip to handle the three pound weights so it's a start for me. My goals are to shed some of the fat I've acquired (gained over 50 lbs) in a few months by exercising and eating right. I've been doing good this week so far on both. I hope to be in better shape and at least a little lighter than I was.

I will turn 50 this year. I have always been thin but the last five years I have been steadily putting on weight. I have increased my exercise, reduced my intake, tried diet pills, eliminated bad food, eliminated processed foods etc but still I am gaining weight. I am in menopause and I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic about two years ago. I believe those two health conditions are to blame for my weight gain even when I am doing everything right. does anyone else have similar problems?

Hi! I am new to the group. I am 48 years old and wanting to lose about 20 pounds. I have a 26 year old son and have just slowly put on a few pounds a year since I was about 40. It came on slowly and I suspect it will leave slowly. Most of my life I have been lucky to not have any weight problems, but that really just ingrained some lazy habits in me regarding exercise and food portions. It is a real change to be consistent with eating well and exercising. I love the idea of a stepper at work, that someone mentioned. :)

First, my apologies to the moderator for accidentally starting a new topic instead of replying to an existing topic.

I am re-joining the team after a few years. I found it helpful in 2014 to lose about 9 lbs. Tracking my food (all of it) and tracking my exercise were helpful, as was the group motivation. I weigh 189 lbs now and am 6' 0" tall. I'm 45 years, and I'm a married father of two teenagers in Vermont.

I have no problem with exercise, but I have tremendous problems with diet. I work at Ben & Jerry's.

Yesterday (my first day) was a partial failure, or success depending on how you look at it. For an office party, somebody bought a raspberry chocolate mousse cake and I had a slice. Checking the website, it was 700 freaking calories for a slice! But I didn't have a second piece (which I normally would do) so I will count that as a victory, even though my food log says that I ate about 600 calories too much.

In the past, I found it helpful to have one "key" ally within the group with whom I can discuss more detailed issues and challenges. If you're interested, please message me.

New to participating in a team and getting motivated about working out daily. I have no excuse other than laziness and lack of motivation. So here goes another try as the weight is not as easy to keep off as it was in my 30s :)

SP has a report called daily calorie differential. It adds all the calories you eat less what you burn via exercise and your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). The idea is that if you can maintain a negative 500/day you will burn 3500 calories in a week. Which is equal to one pound.

Hi there....I'll turn 46 next month. I have two teenage kids and a husband who loves to eat but never gains! I joined SP in 2003 trying to lose 20lbs. It's been 4 years and am still trying to lose that 20lbs!! I got back into SP at the beginning of Jan and found a team that recorded the daily calorie differential ( from the SP reports). I think I finally understood why I wasn't losing weight. I wasn't getting the negative 500 - 1000 calorie differential per day! Whenever I exercised I'd just eat more because I could. I was just maintaining over the past four years. But since realizing this, I'm happy to say that I lost 6lbs in Jan by keeping a negative calorie differential. I have 14lbs to go now and am feeling confident that this will be the year! :)

I am a new to SPARK PEOPLE as of today. I really want to lose at least 20 lbs but doing goal in 10 lb increments. I never seem to hit that 10 lb mark. I am a mother of 2 girls, ages 28(almost 29) and a newly turned 13 year old. I have a 7 year old grandson(almost 8) and a 2 year old granddaughter, who keeps us busy when she is here.My husband was recently diagnosed with TYPE 2 DIABETES, so I want to try to get him to join this as well and our 13 year old is overweight and her BMI is too high for her age and height. so we need to do this as a family for our health. We just need some extra encouragement.

Hi everyone,

I've been on SP for a little while now, but this is my first time joining a group. I'm 43, have 4 kids, and gained about 10 lbs with each one ... plus an extra 10 lbs over the past 10 years or so. My goal isn't to lose all of that, since I started married life on the underweight side, but I'd really like to get my 6' body down to about 165 lbs. I've lost 10 lbs since starting this journey, but still have another 17 lbs to go. I seem to be at a stand still, and know I need to be determined and patient. My mantra so far has been "slow and steady" ... I'm in no huge rush to lose the weight, just want to be sure that I'm heading in the right direction.

Best wishes to all of you in your journeys as well!

Hi all! I'm Andrea - I rejoined SP last week because I am tired of battling these crazy pounds alone. I wasn't planning on posting on these boards, but then I realized I really need the community and accountability that comes from them, so here I am! I've been married for 18 years and we have four kids. I teach preschool and just returned to university to finish my education degree this past month (I started when I was done high school, but put it on hold to stay home with our kids while they were little). One of the things finally deciding to go back to school to finish my education is that it made me realize I am capable. I've spent years believing I can't possibly lose this extra weight, but I know now that yes, I can, as long as I do the hard work to get there.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to connect with you all!

Congratulations on the upcoming marriage of your daughter! I know the 'bored eating' feeling. I run so much during the week that once my day off comes I'm not sure WHAT to do. It is a REAL fight to stop from stuffing my face out of sheer boredom.

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors!

I tried Spark People about 4 years ago and ended up leaving within the first couple weeks because of nasty comments sent to me by others. I am a 45 year old mother of 2 girls and grandma of 2 boys. I am married to my best friend and we have been together for 11 years. I was diagnosed last December with liver function issues and I am currently at 35% liver function and metabolic syndrome. I am an emotional eater, only I eat when I get bored. My goal weight is 145. My husband and I joined a gym back in May but it has been one emergency after another that has kept us with only going once or twice a week. My diet is awful right now and I am trying to work on that and I will do good during the work week (I work full time as a contracts administrator and executive assistant for a survey company) then the weekend come along and we are on the go and all my hard work goes down the drain. My original goal was to be at my goal weight by my birthday but that passed last week. I have only lost 5 pounds since I started this at the beginning of the year. Now my goal is to be at 145 by the time my daughter gets married on November 19th

Hello everyone. I am 48 and working on getting in shape and losing weight.

I am not sure exactly how much I weigh. I think about 150, but I am only 5'3." I do not own a scale. I mostly go by what size I am. My goal is to get down to a size medium. I have lost 3 inches from each of my main 3 measurements this past year. I am not sure exactly how much weight that corresponds to.

My weight fluctuates a lot depending on what time of the month it is, so scales do not feel real accurate to me. Also, I am trying to build a little muscle in addition to losing fat. That really is not reflected on the scale.

My thing currently is working out at work. I have an office job, but I have a standing desk. I have a little stepper machine that I use in the morning. I am actually working when I use this. I have read e-mail, done on-line training, approved claims and reviewed reports while I am on my stepper.

I suppose my co-workers think I am a little odd, but they probably thought that before the stepper machine. I feel like most people around me are not into healthy eating or exercise, so I wanted to join some people on line who fit with my goals.

My husband joins me in eating healthy. However, he can only do very light exercise because of his healthy problems.

Hi, I am new to this team but not Spark. I started my journey in April, 2008 and lost quite a bit of weight, felt good, and looked good. I fell off about 2.5 to 3 years ago. I'm not even close to my beginning weight, but have gained about 15 pounds back, as well as fat (ugh). My mood is not near as good as it was when I was eating right and exercising. I feel tired all the time as well. So, I am back, and as of 7/11/16, I have been eating right, counting my calories, and have stopped drinking on weekdays and limit myself on the weekends. I plan on incorperating exercise next week, (baby steps). I FINALLY feel motivated again, and my pants are already feeling a little looser. I am looking forward to living the healthy, happy life that I know I deserve!!!!

Good morning! I just turned 46. Like one other post I read, I'm not really new, but I've gotten back to tracking food and exercising. I'd been tracking for more than a month and was staying at the same weight. I did some research and found that since I've lost weight since I started the program four years ago I needed to cut my calories. LOL! I tracked for a few days and found I wasn't eating even a thousand calories in a day. No wonder I could lose weight. So, I increased my calories and stayed at the same place. Then. . . .well, see above. I tend to be a bit redundant . . .and a chatterbox. Have a great day.

Hi! I'm not really "new" as I joined a long time ago, but I haven't been active in AGES, so I'm finally introducing myself. I'm 46 and I've got about 20 lbs to lose. I'll be happy if I can get 10 off, honestly, as I've been losing and gaining the same 5-8 lbs over and over again for 2 years. :(

Hi! I've never done any sort of formal weight loss plan before and but I've been trying to lose the 15 lbs I gained after a tough time in my life, for the last 2 years on my own. And it's so hard! mostly I want to be able to turn to people going through the same thing. I am really excited about this group, because a lot of people say to me "you look great, you don't need to lose weight," but I know I do. I have diabetes in my family, and the extra weight gives me knee and foot pain, and, let's be honest, I don't think the way I look now. 10-20 pounds makes a HUGE difference.I am really looking forward to this supportive community!
