Morning, emoticon to the Blue Star Moms!!! Come on up to the Check In thread, that is where you usually find us. We look forward to meeting you and hearing all about you and your soldier. Of course feel free to look through all threads and forums restart the conversation or start a new one, there is a lot of valuable information tucked away,

That is exciting to have all three home, are you ready for that?

My Dad was at Pope back in 65 for a short while, lots of great memories of Ft. Bragg (I think only because I was already an adult, but Dad still scared anyone I dated, ha)

Come on up and Check In, we have a virtual 3pm cocoa klatch feel free to join us and we are always looking for recipes for hot, cold, frozen or those with a little added kick so if you have a recipe please share it with us.

My son is in the Air Force. He was a gunner but now is on medical hold. He's waiting to find out if they will reclassify him or separate him. He's so frustrated. I was in the Air Force. He had so much success and now for this to happen. Poor kid.

Hi,
We just sent our son off this afternoon to prepare for his deployment to Afghanistan. He is a Marine Corps 2nd LT. This will be our 2nd deployment as parents. Our eldest son was Army Reserve(home now and enjoying civilian life.) My husband is retired Navy, so I did plenty of deployments as the Navy wife, but it is different when it is your child.

God Bless Our Troops!

Hi. I'm a former Navy corpsman and my husband was with the Marines. My oldest son is with Air Force intelligence. My youngest son is in the process of joining the Army. It will be interesting to see what my daughter decides to do with her life. She is 11 so she still has a way to go.

This is for all of you Moms, Dads and Families. It is a favorite reminder of what brave youngsters we raised.

An American Boy Grows Up

Our son was born so long ago, yet it seems like yesterday...
That I stood in awe before his crib and heard that doctor say,
"You've quite a boy there Mr. Jones." I could only answer with a nod,
For in his very being there I saw the miracle of God.

Later in his high chair, in a manner I deplore,
I saw that Miracle of God throw his oatmeal on the floor.
Well, I fixed him something different, for I felt he must be fed,
But when I turned around again, that bowl was on his head!

A few more years rolled along and he didn't spill things anymore.
But his granddad sent a big bass drum, and once more I deplored
The fact that my miracle of God, had a lusty taste for noise!
When he'd boom! boom! boom! on that big bass drum, I questioned, boys must be boys?

I asked his whereabouts one day...his Mom said, "He's got a paper route,"
"Said he'd help to earn his way as he became an eagle scout."
When I pinned that medal on him, tears welled in my eyes,
And then I gripped his mother's hand, our boy had earned his prize.

I won't forget that September day, when he entered senior high,
He had an air of great excitement, but he left home with a sigh.
He came back that afternoon, and gave us some puzzled looks,
"Wow!" he said, "this school is tough, look at all these books!"

"The choice is yours," his mother said, "You can pick the easy way."
"What you put into life, you'll get out of it. Each man pays his price one day."
He looked up, and then he smiled, and I saw he'd lost his gloom,
He said, "I'd better look at these," he headed for his room.

My son came home late one day. He seemed all worn out.
I asked a little sharply what this was all about.
He spoke proudly and threw his shoulders back, and in his eyes I caught a gleam.
"I wanted to surprise you Dad, I'm on the football team!"

They won most of their games, lost a few, it was a thrill to watch him play.
And when they didn't win we knew, he'd met the challenge anyway.
He didn't know it at the time, but, it was a stepping stone,
Solid footing for the climb, to face life on his own.

How those three years flew past, when graduation came,
We saw our boy grown up at last; our lives will never be the same.
I guess we've known all along what his goal would be,
From that time three years ago, when he chose responsibility.

He stood in the doorway yesterday, put out a strong right hand.
I held back tears at the uniform he wore to protect his land.
I shook his hand, his mother cried, "Son, why couldn't you wait?"
Embracing her, he softly said, "Mom, if we all did, it would be too late."

"I promise I'll go back to school, when I've met my obligation,
To you, my friends, my girl, my school, and most of all this nation."
"I'll do all I can out there, for I know you'll both be trying,
To make everyone you know aware, we've got to keep Old Glory flying."

And then his mother straightened up, with a smile to hide a tear.
She said, "We're both so proud of you, we'll feel lost without you here."
Someday, you'll know what this moment means, when your boy shakes your hand,
And you watch him as he walks away, the day he becomes a man."

~ John Mitchum

With loving thanks to of all our sons and daughters who have served, are serving, and will serve their country.

Oh thank you for the information! Yes, it is hard keeping it together, but I am . . . outwardly! Definitely, no matter how old your kids get to be, they're still our babies. ALWAYS! I guess kids don't understand that until they become parents themselves . . . I know I didn't!

My son did his basic at Ft. Leonard Wood, too... although his contract is nearly up, and in fact will be by the time he comes back from the deployment he's about to go on (his second). We attended his basic graduation, my ex driving all the way from NY state to do so, son's GF and I down from Nebraska.

So much growing up in those short weeks! LONG weeks for the trainees, mind you. And LONG weeks when they are incommunicado... waiting for those two minute phone calls. You'll do fine, stay strong. He'll learn so much, and grow so much.

I held it together when his recruiter picked him up, and I'm sure you will, too! Being strong for them, trusting they can do it, letting them become men... toughest part of being a mom, 'cause we still see them as our little helpless babes, huh?

Good morning! Well, tomorrow my son's journey begins. He enlisted last July in the Army. Tomorrow we drop him off @ the recruiting station @ 5 am (which means we have to leave our house no later than 4:15 am.) He will be in basics @ Ft. Leonard Woods in Missouri. We plan to attend his graduation in June.

Very emotional day for me today (and I know tomorrow will be). I know we never, ever stop worrying about our kids, even as they become adults. **SIGH** I know He will be looking after my son, so that's a comfort.

Just wanted to share. THANKS for being here. I'm positive I'll be doing a lot of "leaning on you" for advice through this whole process.

We are right here to stand with you, offer a shoulder and WHATEVER else you and your family needs. It is scary enough when our sons are facing this danger but I know I'd be beside myself if it were my daughter (although the tomboy I'm sure would be fine). And yes, be very very proud of her!

I'm glad to see you dropping in, come by often.

MamaLou, I think it's a great name.

Our bonus great granddaughter announced one day she would call me Nenne Lolly, couldn't pronounce Kelly. She calls our daughter Nenne. Yes, we do have great grandchildren only because our daughter married someone 14 yrs her senior...but we couldn't have asked for a greater extended family, bonus just seems right.

Something to warm up those Saturday muscles...

Hello Everyone,

I have a son in the Army. He is a combat medic going to nursing school in Texas and will be 43 at the end of the month. He joined just before his 40th birthday.
He was working at the World Trade Center on 9/11/01 and entered Iraq as a combat medic on 9/11/09.
I am excited for him and scared for him at the same time. Does that make sense?
Sunny, thanks for steering me to this team. I appreciate it and the fact that we are all Blue Star Moms.

Hi All,

I am a former navy wife, DH has been retired for quite some time.

We have one son. He's 31, and married. He is stationed at Davis Monthan Air Force Base, and he is attached to the PJ squadron. We were there for a few days in mid-December to celebrate an early Xmas as he deployed right after Xmas to Afghanistan.

My DIL was also active duty AF, but they got married and the AF did nothing to help station them together, so after 2 years she got out. She is a reserve now.

Don't have any grandchildren as they have only been married for about 3.5 years, and out of their 5 years of knowing each other, all but about a year has been apart. We do however have a grand doggie, but I'm still holding out for the real thing! emoticon

Hugs to All. . .

Welcome Lisa, our Air Force Family grows again! If after being in the Security Force, going on to JAG might be an easy transitiion.
(Lisa, we have quite a few Moms here that are nurses)

Our son is Navy, back on reserve and was Special Ops, now assigned to NCIS.

My middle son, Andrew, was in the Army for 4 years. So now I'm a veteran's mom. But I still love being with my BSM family & helping out our military. My chapter has grown so much in the last 3 years...it's awesome. When I left for Florida we were the fastest growing chapter in the country.

My son is a Marine stationed at Twenty Nine Palms, CA. My son in law is an Army MP stationed at Ft. Hood with my daughter & granddaughter. It's so hard that they are both out of state but I'm very proud of all of them and thankful they are state-side at this time. I have a countdown jar for when I get to see them next! Countdown always going...months to days to hours. The life of the Military...always countdown and I'm trusting God for their safety.
I proudly display my Blue Star banner and everyday where my Blue Star pin. Our Military makes so many sacrifices and I'm so proud of all of them and thank you Military Mom's/wives and families for the sacrifices your loved one makes for freedom. America, Land of the Free because of our Brave.

My blue star flag went up on Tuesday... secretly, I was hoping to never display it - but... freedom isn't free and I'm proud that my son chooses to do what he does and continue to allow the rest of us to have the freedoms we do.

Another 363 days and he will be home..

Hello everyone.

I have been a military brat. My father served in the Marine Corp for 30 years. I then married an Air Force man and spent 11 years by his side. I recently got a divorce from him and I am now dating a man whose grown son was (2 months ago) medically discharged from the Army.

My mother never served but she worked as a civilian contractor for the Navy.

As you can see, none of these relations are still serving but I still feel very close to those that do serve because I have been there and I know what they (you) are all going through.

Good luck to all you who have sons or daughters in basic training or recently graduated from basic training. I remember going to my son's basic training graduation. It was a very emotional day but also a hard day because we were able to spend the day with him but yet we had to leave him there when we were on our way home. He had his basic training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. We had hoped to take him to the Oklahoma City Memorial while we were there but that was outside the range that he was allowed to travel while he was allowed to leave the base so we ended up stopping there on our way home. He didn't get a chance to see the memorial at all while he was there. The memorial was a very moving and emotional stop on our way home but I was glad that we took the time to stop and see it while we were there as we most likely won't get the chance to do it again. If you get to spend time with your soldier for graduation make the best of the day as it will be a very memorable time for you and your soldier.

Good luck to all you and hopefully you will have a great week.

Mary,
I waited and bought my flag from Ft Benning at his graduation. You can also google it or check out Ranger Joe's.
My son was not able to be here for his brother's wedding 3 weeks ago so we bought unit pin's online and wore them to the wedding.

Mary, my son finished Army basic/Infantry training May 22, 2009. I know how hard it is. There is good support here. I also found support on the forums at goarmy.com and Facebook. Maybe the Airforce has something similar.
While my son was in training his battle buddy told me that his mom had a facebook page. I met his mom there and then finally met in person at graduation. We still keep in touch.
Things that helped me:
-Remember he is getting excellent training. Training to stay safe. All the guys are trained to keep each other safe.
-You need to choose-every moment- to believe and have faith that he will be ok.
-live one moment at a time.
-Cry when you need to.
-Seek out other military mom's
-keep a journal.
-write a letter to him everyday. You can send them as often as you want. Or save them for a few days at a time
-if allowed send a care package.
-When my son called he got to use his cell phone. I had him send me pictures as often as possible. Pictures of him. I just needed to see him. Sometimes at night when I couldn't sleep I would look at his pictures and feel better- or cry.
It is such a roller coaster of emotions, sometimes, for me it was just best to go with it. Give your self some TLC.

How old is your son? Will he be active duty? What is his mos?

Hope this helps!!
God will keep him in his care!

Shelly

Hello everyone. I have 2 sons in the military. My son Sean is in the Army national Guard and served in Iraq from 2005-2006. We kept in touch by messenger and he did call a few times. The first time he called I was at work and had a really bad connection so I went outside to talke to him and while outside the manager came to work. She had no problems with my taking time to talk to him and even added to the box when I was sending some things to him while he was in Iraq. The hardest time was after hearing that his unit has lost a member due to an IED and that there was a second soldier injured. I was told my Seans monther-in-law who the soldier was that was killed but she didn't know the injured soldier so that worried me. Of course it didn't help that I got that call only 30 minutes after getting a call from my sister telling me that her husband had just had a heart attack. It was really hard not being able to contact Sean during the bloack out time to find out if he was on the convoy when the bomb went off but when he was able to get back on line we talked in lingth and I found out that he was on a different convoy and got called back. When they returned to the base they found out about the IED and the death. The soldier was his best friend so it was really hard on him. All the guys in his unit were very upset about the protesters at the funeral and I guess they were hitting the walls in anger. Even though there were protesters there were a lot more people in support of him as they lined the street all the way from the church to the cemetary. The Patriot Guarg riders were there also and I tell you that was a site to behold. We also saw the Patriot Guard Riders at one of the parades that we took the float to the summer of 2006. We put a float together with a picture if every soldier in the unit and took it to 26 parades that summer along with several "static" events like the county fair, fireworks display and things like that. We also had it at the funeral for Josh who was killed. We had a great family readiness group that really worked together and supported each other. As a matter of fact when my house burned while Sean was in Iraq the family readiness group was one of the few groups that was there to help and support us. The paid our final utility bills at the house and were there to help clean out the house and see what we could salvage. Several members of the FRG also sent gift certificates to help, one family took my daughter shopping for some supplies that she needed. We also had a gread emotional support group which met monthly while the unit was deployed. I strongly suggest that if there is either of these afailable please check into them as they can be a great source of help and support. The chaplins fromt he mational guard were also there for us whenever we needed anything.

My other son is currently in school at Colorado school of Mines in Goilden, Colorado and in the Army ROTC program. So needless to say right now I have 3 years before he goes active. He is going into intelligence so I am hoping that means he won't be deployed to the front lines but never know.

I pray for all you that currently have members of your family deployed and if there is anything I can do to support any of you since I have been through it but currently not I would love to help if I can. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help and support any of you.

My oldest son, Malcolm, is in the Army, First Cavalry Division - they are deployed currently, but he is home at Ft Hood because he suffered a traumatic brain injury during their previous deployment.

My second son, James, is also in the Army and also First Cavalry Division - he is in Iraq with his unit. This is his second deployment. He'll be home for his R&R leave in September and we expect his deployment to end in March or April.

My son-in-law, David, is in the Navy. He is not currently deployed.

Welcome to the team. We have several two blue star moms now. We are so grateful to have so many young men and women serving our country. Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help you. I know how hard it is to have a child deployed and I'm sure it's twice as hard when you have two at once!

I would like to share this beautiful prayer that I just received from a dear Army Mom friend of mine ... and dedicate it to all of our Blue Star Moms - - especially those who have newly-deployed sons or daughters:
emoticon

"MILITARY MOMS PRAYER"

Give me the greatness
of heart to see,
The difference between duty
and his love for me.
Give me understanding,
so that I may know,
When duty calls him,
he must go.
Give me a task to do each day,
To fill the time when he's away.
When he's in a foreign land,
Keep him safe in your
loving hand.
And Lord, when duty
is in the field,
Please protect him
and be his shield.
And Lord, when deployment
is so long,
Please stay with me
and keep me strong.
AMEN

A Hug Certificate for You!

If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you
And share with you its beauty
On the days you're feeling blue.

If I could build a mountain
You could call your very own;
A place to find serenity,
A place to be alone.

If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea,
But all these things I'm finding
Are impossible for me.

I cannot build a mountain
Or catch a rainbow fair,
But let me be what I know best,
A friend who's always there.

All of you remember we are here when you need us,
And thank you Blue for involving your kiddos so much. My sons unit got more out of receiving from the schools than anyone.

It sounds like we have a lot of newly deployed kids. Please let me know if there's anything I can do for you, or for your son/daughter. I'm a teacher, and my kiddos regularly write letters to send to troops, my chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America sends a lot of boxes overseas, and I'm always here to lend an ear or support!

Psalm 91:1 Security of the One Who Trusts in the LORD.
Moms of Military Prayer for my Soldier

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my
fortress,
My God, in whom I trust!"
Author The Most High

Father, I come before you and I bring you my son, I
pray that he will dwell in your shelter, that he would find security as you direct his thoughts on the battlefield, and in that inner place he can abide under your shadow and find rest in his mind. I pray that he would find you as that place of refuge and in your power and strength he would be revived and safe and he will call upon your name.

Hi Kirsten, welcome (again) to our wonderful Team that has so many loving, supportive Blue Star Moms & Families who will be right there with you as you progress in weight loss while facing the emotional strains of having a deployed Son.

I said a special prayer for you and especially for Brandon - - who finished his R&R today (4/25) and is returning to Iraq. May the Lord and His mighty Angels accompany Brandon every step of the way. May he be Blessed with the Lord's mighty hand of protection and mercy from all dangers, and may Brandon return once again - - safely to his family and share many more happy times with you all.
AMEN

Hi there Kristen. I am Sunny and a Proud Army Mom. Our Son, Joshua, just got home from Baumholder, Germany. He loved it there. He is now in the states for a couple of years.

Tell both your sons that they are our True American Heros. This team is full of support so stick close to the team and let us know how your boys are doing.

Hi All! My name is Kristen and I have two blue stars out there in the world. My oldest son, Robert, is serving in the Air Force and is in Germany where he is a medic. His wife is also there with him but she is a civilian. My other son, Brandon, is in the Army and currently serving a tour in Iraq, although he is home for R&R the rest of this week (leaves on Saturday 4/25).

I am so super proud of my kids that are serving their country! They both went in during wartime so they don't know what it is to serve during peace...but they wanted to make a difference.

I am so thankful for all the service members and their families that support them! Without a support base at home there is no way our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines would be able to do what they need to do!

It definitely makes me proud to be an American when I think of the sacrifices made throughout time by young men & women just like our own kids!
