Check out the Summer Love Challenge and track your progress in the Tracking & Water Intake thread. It is a fun way to get accountability. We would love to hear how you are doing with your course in the Did You Hoop Today Thread. We would love to celebrate with you.

Hello there. Hooping as been a fun thing to do, but now formal learning to hoop with Deanne's course. I have not done for many years for various reasons, time and medical, but all that a thing of the past. I want to integrate into toning regime for more fun. I have the weighted hoops since It's easier for me.

I've been here once before and dropped out but now I'm back. It's been a long time since I did any hula hoop and I still have both of them. If you don't remember me my name is Darlene but like to be called Dar. And I'm a widow since 2005 but moved back to Tacoma in 2010 and love it here. I go to a Catholic church and help out on Fridays at the church after Mass and love it and I don't drive but go to Bible study on Monday's and on Weds nights but at least it gets me out of my apt. I still have friends here every since I moved out of Tacoma to Shelton the moved back to Tacoma. This past summer my friends and I went to the ocean for a week and I loved being there but it went to fast but wish we stayed another week. Went shopping and walked and had a blast. So that is a little bit of who I am.

Hi again,
Thanks for the welcome here. I知 following some beginner videos by Deanne Love, but I値l mke sure to watch other videos as well. And yes, I need to start posing when the hoop drops (yesterday it dropped so many times that I gave up the posing part afraid that I壇 have turned into a statue from too much posing... ).
Anyway I値l keep you posted on my progress :)

Hello Fran,
So glad you found us. We are small but we have a lot of fun & inspiration. It can be frustrating when it drops to the ground. I started learning to hoop dance as I practiced waist hooping. I finally learned to waist hoop on my waist but LOVED the dance hooping so much that I rarely waist hooped until recently we had a 30-day hula hoop challenge. It had both on & off-body moves. I just found the flow finally clicked with waist hooping and now I LOVE waist hooping too. The ladies here have inspired me so much and encouraged me, but it took showing up to play that made it click. If there is anything I can do to help you or you need encouragement, please let us know. We have a lot of challenges on this site. Feel free to join any of them at any time. Have fun and when that hoop drops to the floor, just pose and act as if you planned it.

Hi Fran! Welcome to the team!
I could not hoop at all when I first got my hoop, but I turned to YouTube and watched several videos and finally it just clicked. I recommend just finding a bunch of beginner tutorials, and hang in there! It is so satisfying when you finally find your flow!
I hope you grow to love hooping!

Hello, my name is Fran and I just recently started hula hooping (yesterday, actually, after thinking about it for a while and then finally getting the courage to order a hula hoop). I知 having fun, but it痴 so frustrating with the hoop always dropping on the ground. I知 doing it for the fun, but also as fitness exercise, since I have quite a number of pounds to shed. :)
Have a great day!

I so agree. You try something and it just doesn't happen. Keep having play time and all of a sudden it clicks. Just remember that while you are picking up the hoop off the floor, you are burning calories and building muscles. The coordination and muscle will come.

Hi Jesuva! Nice to have a new member on board!
I could never get the hang of hula hooping, but I finally watched a whole lot of YouTube videos about waist hooping, and one day it just clicked! I don't know how or why, but I sure do love my hoop now!

Welcome Michelle. We are so glad you joined us. I know very much about the "pick up hoop" exercise. Just don't get frustrated. As Deanne Love says, just pop a pose when it falls. lol. Hooping is a lot of fun and so many styles. Your mom sounds like she took it to a new level. That is great. It does give a really good workout. It can be on your waist for a GOOD core workout or off body moves for a nice burn to your arms. We have lots of resources of hoop help. Also, if you are interested, we have a nice Yoga challenge. It is 10 minutes a day for 5 days per week. Check it out. It is surprising how 10 minutes can feel so good. We are glad you are here.

Hi my name is Michelle. My user name is a combo of my first two initials of my first name and the first two initials of my last name. It just worked out so I went with it lol. I live in Central Mississippi. I'm 51 and have been considering a hulu hoop for a while. I seen the group and I thought I can try lol. My mama was hulu hoop crazy when she was young she could do them on her arms, neck and waist all together. Most of my exercise will be from picking the hulu hoop back up I pretty sure lol. Thanks for letting me join your group.

Lol The bag sounds great. One time, my cat got into my project drawer and found my yarn. Oh my, he had a field day. When I woke up the next morning, yarn was wound around EVERYTHING. Upstairs, downstairs, through chair legs, around dining room table legs, everywhere. The cat was totally exhausted. When I checked the sweater that I was almost done with, there was one and half inches of finished product. I was so mad, sad, frustrated, ugh. I never bothered to finish the sweater.

I know the mom's enjoy the hats. That sounds fun. Small, useful, & appreciated. I have only done sweaters and maybe couple scarves. When yarn went up and sweater prices came down, I pretty much quit. Same way with sewing. I do miss both very much. Although now I try not to sit very long. I mentioned sewing in front of my daughter & husband and they were absolutely opposed. They said, when do you think you have time to sew. I think I will try to fit it into my day SOMEHOW. I love the idea of waist hooping while crocheting. That is too cool.

Thanks for the tip. I am sure if I keep practicing, I will get it. Building up those back muscles is very hard, but so needed. They are getting stronger. Lately I have been thankful to grab some hoop dancing time. The hoop is so versatile. I too love arm hooping, especially isolations. My arms get really sore if I do a lot of them. The backwards weave is really a good burn. I can't do chest, neck or legs yet. In due time. Right now I want to work on DeAnne Love's flow sessions, hoop workout videos, & get some new moves. I also want to crisp up some of my old moves. Sounds like a lot, but breaking it down and going slow with it. I am not sure I am very good at dance hooping, but I LOVE it so much. Would you be interested in doing some of the workout/flow/trick videos together? I plan to do all three and would love the company with any of it.If not, I will be checking in with my progress under "did you hoop today" lol

It's not a very fancy bag, it's a little drawstring that I can wear around my wrist so the yarn is never below the hoop. You can imagine the disaster if I drop it and that yarn gets caught!

I mostly crochet baby hats; I'm an OB nurse and we try to send all of our babies into the world with a handmade hat. What do you like to crochet? I am always looking for new ideas and patterns!

I actually keep one foot a teeeeeny, teeeny touch in front of the other when I'm waist hooping, and I feel like that makes it easier for me. I'm not sure if that's the best idea out there, but it's worked so far. Waist hooping and arm hooping are my favorite, I so struggle with chest and neck and legs.

Nice to officially meet you, Clare. Lol. I had the same question about crocheting. That is amazing!!! You need to post a picture of this bag. I like crocheting. I have given it up because I didn't want to sit that long. That is amazing. I have mentioned that I struggle with waist hooping. What tips do you have to improve besides just practice? What things do you enjoy crocheting?

Just realized that I never introduced myself! Hi, guys, I'm Clare, and it has been so nice to meet all of you! I am married with a small pack of four-legged loves, but no children. I adore hooping and can hoop for literal hours, especially if I have a crochet project to work on, or something fun to watch, or a fellow hooper to talk books with while I hoop.

Hello, everyone! Thanks for the invite, Marj. Just joined Spark yesterday. A bit about myself- my name is Dena or Aunt Re as my nephew calls me. I'm 31, live in Indiana, have no kids, 2 dogs, 19 chickens, and am newly single again. I actually have a random hula hoop in my closet that i nearly threw out a few days ago- glad I didn't! Excited to meet you all!

Live less out of habit and more out of intent.

Welcome!!! We are very glad to have you join us. I will be adding more resources soon. You will love spark people. There are so many tools to use with the trackers. Check out the reports under the tracker tab at top.

I love hooping. It is calming and energetic, and just fun. Check out You Tube has many clips on hooping. You Tube is your friend if you need fun ways to exercise at home. There are so many moving activities on there. I love the dance workouts too.

I hope you find this group as a great support system. We are quite active. If there is anything you have questions about, please ask. Have fun.

Hello, All. My name is Nichole, and this is my 2nd full day here.

I am 48 years old, married, with 2 kids - ages 11 and 14.

I am 5'10", and weighed in at the dr at 218 pounds on Friday. I am on no medications, BP and bloodwork all within norms. We went over my diet at the appt, and she didn't see anything out of the ordinary from what I was eating. However, since I gained 8 pounds from last year, she suggested I start tracking my calories, just to see if we could figure out what was going on. My ultimate goal would be to get down to 180 pounds.

Of course, now that I'm counting, my eating habits are going to change, only because I will be more aware of what I'm eating. That's ok, though.

We joined up at the YMCA back in November, and have been trying to go every other day. However, since my husband is currently unemployed, we are going to end the Y at the end of April.

I am looking forward to learning more about hooping, as the low impact I think will be more my speed, and I would be able to do it in my backyard every day.

I will also join the walking group.

Hello Shellan,
Welcome!!! We are glad to have you. I am excited for you. Spark people has changed my life to a wonderful, healthy lifestyle. I still use all the tool. There are a lot of resources here, so if you have any questions, please ask. My favorite is all the reports you can run located under the tap "trackers".

You will love hooping. I enjoy the off-body moves the best with some on-body waist hooping. I want to get stronger on the waist hooping. It is a lot of fun. There again, anything you have questions about, please ask. We also want to add any areas to this team that will support both healthy living and hooping, so anything you would like to add would be great.

Again, welcome. Keep your journey fun.

Debbie (DJ)

JoAnne, 1000 days is amazing. I have been doing really well at logging food and exercise but usually have a day here or there where I have to go back to the day before to log. Thanks so much for introducing me to streaks and being such a great role model. I will have to think about it as a streak and see what happens with that. I really love how active you are.

Hello, I have been chatting on have you hooped today forum, but here is my introduction.
I am 56 years old and married to a great man for 35 years. We have 3 grown children and 3 grand children. I started on spark people somewhere around 2012 and lost 50 pounds. I kept it off until this last year. I only gained ten pounds but lost a lot of muscle. Now working on getting fit again. I bought my first hoop last April. It took a couple of weeks to get it to stay up on my waist but as muscle developed it got better. To keep from being discouraged, I started off body dance. Absolutely love hooping. Now making it a daily priority to enjoy my hoop playtime.

My exercises are focused on stationary bike, YouTube workouts for strength training, and stretching tape called Callanetics from the 80's. I also have started an app called "just 6 weeks" that includes sit ups, push ups, planks, dips, & squats. It is a slow go if I am not consistent. I try to add fun activities like HOOPING (yey!), walking, line dancing, Zumba, belly dancing, mini trampoline, swimming, yoga and anything else that is fun. I still am not consistent as I need to be, but I am learning how important it is to take care of myself.

By the way, I am from Milton (Pensacola), Florida. I love the beach, paddle boarding, water skiing, and boating during the summer. I want to try sail surfing this year.

LOL. So many things to do and not enough time to do it all.

Hi! I'm Joanne, 63, wife, mother to two grown girls, gran to two (one girl, one boy), retired elementary school librarian and retired marriage commissioner, Canadian.
I have been a Spark member since 2010, and am currently nearing the end (?) of a 1000 day sign-in streak. I am super-pumped about that! I started out small and have gradually become more involved in the community. Love the Spark support and friendships!
Same with fitness and healthy living: I started out small, with a once-a-week beginner yoga class and now take a multitude of classes and have gradually built a fairly active lifestyle.
I only started hooping a couple of years ago - never could do it as a kid... I am afraid I am a fair-weather hooper. In the summer I love to waist hoop in the back yard! Sometimes with curlers in my hair and my nose in a book!
