Awesome answer. Thanks for posting.

I've seen people eating at restaurants, shoving large volumes of sauce laden, fat dripping food into their mouths as they sit and stare at each other. Usually no one is talking, just shoveling. I have often wondered - "Are they really enjoying this meal? Their friends? The food?" The looks on their faces are often suggesting that there's not much enjoyment there.

I will be sticking to a vegan diet. My non-ETL splurge will be a vegan Gardein Chicken Scallopini and I am going to make vegan mashed potatoes with veggie gravy. The rest of my day will be filled with fruits and veggies, as always!

I stay on my road and I don't change lanes.

No reason not to decide that there is holiday food WITHIN the six week challenge. That's what it is all about. This is real food for healthy people.

Here is what Jeff Novick says:

"Is There Any Pleasure In This?

Others often see this lifestyle as overly restrictive and without pleasure or fun. I am sure you have heard the following comment more than once, when discussing this lifestyle...
"Is there any pleasure in this? Don't you have any fun?"
In fact, the following exchange happened on a list-serve that I am on and thought you would appreciate it. It is one of the best responses I have ever seen to this question.
During a detailed discussion over some dietary issues, someone posted to the list asking,
"Is there any pleasure involved or is it all about the diet?"
To which someone else on the list responded...
"What a very, very odd question.
If I join a list of mathematicians discussing obscure topics in math, I'd be an idiot to ask,
"yes, I see a lot of math, but is there any pleasure involved at all, or is it all about mathematical PROBLEMS?"
Being passionate about something (math, diet, exercise, kayaking, astronomy etc.) does not imply that there is no pleasure in life, or in the subject itself... what an utterly bizarre view.
In fact, rather the OPPOSITE is true - it's hard to be very interested or passionate about a subject and not take any pleasure in it. We can be both passionate about Health and take pleasure in health - in fact it would be hard not to (good eating also sharpens the appetite, so we take more pleasure in food than the average person).
Nor does it imply there is no pleasure in life - being passionate about something - chess, diet, exercise, botany, whatever - implies strongly taking pleasure in life, because the way the world works, we have to be alive in order to explore our interests.
One of *the* key reasons for doing this AT ALL, is to prolong life - now, you wouldn't want to prolong something that you take no pleasure in, would you.
Therefore, the answer to this question is contained in the very premise of it."

How is everyone doing?!!

I am so excited about losing weight. After talking about it for so long, it's finally happening for me. I'm loving the daily activity and the diet is amazing!

As a few of you know I run a vegan personal chef business and even though business is slow right now, I love finding recipes, cooking meals and getting feedback from my family and my clients. This constant drive to try new things is really paying off. I have a great file of winner recipes that is growing all the time.

Thanks again to everyone for your support.

That flash mob singing happened in the first town my family lived in when we moved to Canada from Denmark. It's a small town of 55,000 called Welland, Ontario. My cousin's neighbour was at the mall at 6:30am to get ready for this. How very cool!

For the first time ever I clicked on an advertising link on spark:
FoodTee.com
I love their veggie tees!
When I was little, my older sister would sit down with me and we would go through toy catalogs, each choosing one thing per page that we liked, not with any expectation of getting these things but just for the fun of imagining.
I still do this with catalogs, ads, and websites. Cheap fun!

I haven't officially started the 6 week plan, yet, but I am taking steps toward it. I am doing a day on ... day off through Thanksgiving since I will be cooking.

My husband and I already eat fairly healthy (no red meat or pork and only fish and fowl on occasion). So when it comes to holidays and family, we have learned to travel with our vitamix, and have scoped out all the healthfood stores and restaurants in advance. Our family and friends know how we eat and rather than fight it, they tend to take on the challenge of fixing things that we can enjoy as well. Many times we get requests for recipes and or a grocery list ... and, more often than not asked to come early to help prepare special dishes.

I made a great smoothie yesterday morning before heading out for an hour walk

1 frozen banana
1 cup rice milk
1 tbsp. almond butter
1 tbsp. ground flax

Smooth, creamy, sweet and delicious.

I had to come and tell everyone about my "smoothie" experience this morning.

Wasn't very well prepared so today my smoothie was a combo of frozen pineapples, very cherry blend, a banana... now this is where I go haywire. No baby spinach so I added broccoli slaw, no soy milk so I added Sparkling water.

Umm doubt I will make this again but it's healthy! lol

I'm so glad you posted this! I had forgotten that last year I ate whatever my stepson's wife fixed at Christmas and I need to send her a note explaining how I eat now and how I will be supplementing with my own foods while I am there. That could have been a disaster without your reminder!

My husband and I are traveling from Colorado to South Dakota to spend Thanksgiving with his sister and her family, as well as another brother and wife, dad, inlaws, a cousin I think, all carnivores. Sara knows I've been eating vegetarian, but I'm at the mercy of my hostess for three days and not feeling happy about it. One of those obligation holidays. I don't want to be obnoxious, but I'm down 24 lbs and want to stick with my eating plan. Frustrating. Thanks for letting me vent.

Just finished reading Eat to Live this week and today my wife picked up Dr. Fuhrman's book Eat for Health from the library. I'm also reading Dr. Neil Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes which is quite similar to Dr. Fuhrman's plan. I have been trying to interview Dr. Fuhrman, Dr. Barnard and Dr. Esselstyn but the only one who has replied to my request is Dr. Barnard.

Having just finished reading Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's "Prevent & Reverse Heart Disease" and discovering ALL the diseases that are supported by a diet of animal products and processed oils and fat, no way could I knowingly eat any chicken or turkey broth.

We still haven't finalized our Thanksgiving plans, and much will depend on my MIL's state of mind at the time, but if I'm not cooking at home I plan to take my own food. We may end up at a pot-luck, bring a dish type thing which will work well for me. We may end up at my SIL's and she is use to me being vegetarian, vegan will be more than she will likely want to accomodate - they love their cheese and butter. I'm hoping for the pot-luck, but either way I plan to stick to my fat-free vegan commitment.

My sister-in-law is too sick with breast cancer to roast a turkey this year, and my mother-in-law is old enough that she doesn't enjoy the work anymore, so I had considered roasting a turkey to make everyone happy, but really can't bring myself to participate in that annual slaughter of the poor birds.

It had occurred to me that having turkey broth around could be pleasant, but still I didn't want to. I wonder how pernicious chicken and turkey broth are in terms of your health.

We will be in Kauai. My husband's cousin is getting married there. It will be our 25th wedding anniversary so we are double celebrating.

I see your turkey dilemma. Maybe you could ask her to bring the turkey all ready roasted. We are hosting Thanksgiving and will have several carnivores in attendance. I will be roasing a turkey. There will be plenty of other options also. It is a delicate subject to be sure.

Hawaii sounds great. If you are in Honolulu, take the Bus to the northside of the island. It's really entertaining and it doesn't cost much.
Holidays will take some work. My sister and her family have to have turkey. So I'm going to try to cook it. I really don't think I can do this and it will probably be the last time. Maybe I can get her to cook it and bring it. emoticon

You are so right. After a few days of "holiday" eating I feel bloated and miserable. That should be the incentive to stay away from the "bad" food. I am very determined to change how I and my family eat this holiday season. My husband and I have a trip to Hawaii planned for February and I don't want to be heavier than I am now.

Remember how much better the "good for you" foods make you feel than the standard American "party" foods do. It's really not worth making yourself feel bad when you can eat well and feel good physically and emotionally through the holidays.
Imagine coming up on the new year being healthy and proud of yourself instead of tired and full of regret.

Starting day 2 of FFV (fat free vegan) and feeling good. Fruit for breakfast, meeting a friend for lunch at Ruby Tuesday where I can have salad bar (taking my own dressing). Tough part will be playing Mah Jongg with friends this evening. Always LOTS of tempting food there. I'll stick to the fruits and veggies, I'll take something that I can eat and stay on plan. I AM committed!

That Hallelujah Acres site is very interesting. I've been wanting to incorporate even more raw food into my diet and they seem to have a lot of simple yet appealing looking recipes on there. Even their cookbooks seem reasonably priced. That might be a go to place when I can't decide what to make.

I found Hallelujah Acres online and actually went there several years ago for a seminar. I purchased some products and one of George Malkmus wife's cookbooks while I was there. I tried his plan for a while but didn't stick with it. I guess I wasn't quite ready for it at the time. Seems like Dr. Fuhrman's plan makes more sense because he gives the science behind it and this time I'm ready to follow through.

I just opened an email from today's new customer telling me she had gone out and gotten fast food chicken strips and blueberry biscuits for us to eat today...
I guess I have some talking to do. emoticon Last year it would have thrilled me. On the other hand, last year I felt too ill to do anything like the work I do now, so the situation would not have arisen.
I think I'll carry my Fuhrman and Barnard books in the car with me.

Hi everyone. This week has flown by. Returned from vacation on Saturday. We were in Florida-Fort Walton Beach. Gorgeous weather and totally enjoyed every minute of being on the beach. Fell off the wagon a bit but no weight gain. Yay. Got get back in the mindset before the holidays.

Hope everyone is having a good week.
Amy

P.S. Wild4stars I appreciate you trying to point me in the direction of a vegan restaurant. I wasn't on-line much last week. But let me know for future reference.

That's really cool. I am going to make some lentil soup today following one of Dr. F's recipes. I hope it's tasty. I'm also eating a huge green salad from a local place at lunch with some friends. I get so excited when I know I am going to eat healthy. I also get excited when I get new cleaning products. I am not well. Anyway, it should be a good day. I hope all of you friends have a good day as well!

Looking at it further he is anti-soy and massively religious which is fine if you want and can be ignored if you don't. The recipes are amazing. I bookmarked it in my veg folder.

The customer who gave me the goodies is a friend of Malkmus from the early days of his business which apparently was started just a few miles from where I live.

Anyone familiar with this site?

One of my customers gave me a handful of vegan snack bars from there so I looked it up.

From their "what is" section:
"The Hallelujah Diet is a menu of 85% raw, uncooked, and unprocessed plant-based food, and 15% cooked, plant-based food."

Lots of recipes to be found there.

How's this for random chatter- I am SO glad that my Corelle has pictures of fruit on it and not little chickens or pigs. LOL

BUELLRIDER ~ Daytona Beach is beautiful, one of the best beaches on the Atlantic side. And you picked a good time of year, weather is perfect. Enjoy your vacation.

If you get to Orlando, check out Ethos Vegan Kitchen, great food, try the "chicken" marsala! You'll be glad you did.
