Sounds like you are doing great!

I think I do better the more active I am on spark. This is my first time on today - it is almost midnight - and I see I have almost doubled my calories!!

Glad you are doing good!

Hi everybody!
Thank you all for welcoming me back and for your motivating messages! MrsHoneyC, I did get 10 minutes power walking in today, with 5 minutes warm up walking, stretching, 10 minutes cardio walking, 5 minutes cool down walking, then more stretching. I found out about how important it is to stretch after warm up and after cool down exercises from a class I attended at a community center today. There was also discussion about how to motivate myself to exercise and ways to relieve stress by exercising and other techniques, which I really need to do.

So far today, I'm doing well diet wise, now I just have to drink more water. Baby steps, like I blogged about the other day.

At the B&B people are on it all the time - it tells me - but it is set up that way for visitors. I just figure someone is borrowing it though I know some may not see it that way.
I have to remember to post signs that say free UNSECURED wireless internet - just so people are careful!!
I was dancing to Beatles awhile ago!
Shake it up baby now!!! Shake it up baby! Twist and Shout - woohoo!

Oh, I "dream" that I'm back at goal weight too, but then I wake up and realize that if I'm going to be getting back there, then I've got to WORK at it! Ah, reality!
Quickie "exercise" - well, without internet I've been playing my seven HOURS of music that I have installed on my PC from my favs that I saved before leaving home from all my CD's and I BOOGIE DOWN! Trust me - I'm getting in a SWEAT and it's FUN! I do things like the Charleston, The Twist, some Mashed Potato, JUMP! (Van Halen) of course The Cupid Shuffle - and that's just to name a few! I think I'll wear my HRM next time, just for funsies to see how much I'm burning!

Yeah, let's call it BORROWING rather than hi-jacking --- although the people I'm borrowing from PROBABLY wouldn't see it that way! At least I'm on their net for a good reason --- ALL MY SP KIDDOS!

Welcome back to you too Counter!

We have to realize - for most people it takes some extra effort to lose weight. It doesn't just happen and we can't wish it away (I've been dreaming I was skinny again - though I don't want to be skinny again but a bit better than I am!!)
So my dreams aren't getting it done for me and I haven't been doing it either. VBS is over so this week I've got to get some stuff done - EXERCISE - and MORE WATER and TRACK food better!

MrsC - maybe you are just borrowing?

To God be all glory!

Ah, but SkinnyMissy - you're a "step up" from a "newbie" --- you've used these tools before and you've got some of the "know how" behind you.
There's a lot of water under your bridge (we've ALL got some water under our bridges) and now you've come back. You've got the Desire, because you came back. Now it's time tos get you DETERMINED! Be HeadStrong - beat those blues back.
You don't "feel" like exercising? EVERYONE who's having a hard time getting back in the saddle, here's a personal challenge I'd like you ALL to do. Okay, then. Here's what I'd like to see you do between now and the 15th --- 10 days I want you to get up offa yo' thang and take a TEN MINUTE walk every OTHER day. Just TEN MINUTES, every OTHER day. Can you do that? I know you can! Don't look at it as "exercise" - let's see. We're going to call it a "constitutional" (look it up - great word!) and when you do that ten minutes, GET IT MOVING. No "stroll". MOVE IT. I want to feel those beads of sweat on your brow. SO really, just 5 days I want to know that you've gone out and walked.
Eating too many high carb and fattening high sugar foods --- Okay, let me tell you, if you truly desire this healthier lifestyle you are going to HAVE to "detox" off of that stuff. I had to detox off of a months binge of Peanut M&M's last year. It was as horrible as if I were coming off of drugs. Sweats, headache etal. BUT I KNEW I had to grab hold of myself, set it straight and get OFF the JUNK! THREE DAYS in I was in a bad way. Fourth day I was feeling "okay". I substituted the M&M's for an apple, or a banana or an orange, and you know what? 10 days later I could take "just" a portion and be satisfied (rather than the 1/2 pound daily that I'd allowed myself to be accustomed to!)
And GET IN YOUR WATER! You know the drill, my favorite topic and "catch phrase" --- How much water have you had today??? You REQUIRE half your weight in ounces of water DAILY. If you DO anything where you sweat, you LOSE 8 ounces in 15 minutes, so you have to ADD IN 8 ounces MORE when you're active. If nothing else, if you get in that water, you're going to HAVE to get up and use the potty throughout the day, so you'll be MOVING! emoticon
I am waiting on internet installation which is suppose to be on the 15th, so I've "hi-jacked" someones unsecure network which is really not good to do, and most times I can't get on anyway. I really do want to see that you've got your foot in the stirrup and that you're not afraid to get in that saddle and join me on a trail ride to the Land of Healthier Lifestyles - so I'll be checking back and see how you all are doing!
Pansas - have you put your mind to SUCCESS or is it still entertaining the words of defeat from your family? Don't let THEM take and pull you out of your saddle. Squeeze those thighs together, lean forward and let your pony RUN like the wind! It does come from YOUR desire to succeed.

And anyone who hasn't read my blogs, start from the "beginning" (which is like the last page of blogs!) and see that I, too, had battles with my SELF AND with DH. IT CAN BE DONE!

I'll check in when I can and GOOD LUCK!

emoticon

I NEED MAJOR BIG TIME HELP!

I've been away from here for so long, I feel like a newbie, just coming back. Basically, I've had a lot happen that's derailed my weight loss efforts:

Relative with dementia suffering a serious injury, in rehab home to recover, out of rehab home, back home and feisty as ever, having to keep closer eye on him.

Isolating myself at home with computer posting in forums (Christian ones) and not wanting to interact with people.

Not feeling like exercising, except for gardening and mowing grass.

Eating too many high carb and fattening high sugar foods.

Feeling defeated and wanting to forget about losing weight.

----------

Now I'm moving slowly back on track with one change so far: cutting down on caffeine by switching to caffeine free diet soda and limiting evening half caff coffee to one cup, instead of two or three. Also substituting fruit and sugar free foods now for sugared ones. Hope this continues.

I think family members can be the absolute worse when it comes to giving compliments. And I think alot of it is jealousy. Are any of your family members also dealing with weight issues? If so, I'm sure it's a tad bit annoying to them that you are being successful and they are still sitting on the pot..... you just hang in there and keep on doing it. You're doing this for yourself...not them!

My mom said she doesnt see where I lost any weight... I know I still have a ways to go but 30 pounds is a lot it must show somewhere!!!!!

Oh, another thought - you said "this month" ... if this is something new, it could be that you've been exercising more than usual, and your body is simply telling you that you need more calories! In which case, do remember to adjust your planned calorie burn on SP so that it gives you new ranges! :)

Cheers,
Maya

Cutting out snacking? Don't do that! Instead, carry healthy, planned snacks!

A few pieces of fruit, a handful of nuts (10 walnuts, 12 almonds, 20 peanuts, something along those lines), some cut up veggies or cheese or yogurt. Maybe a *tiny* pack of pretzels? Or beef jerky if that's more your thing ... whatever works!

"They" keep saying that snacking more frequently seems to boost the body's metabolism, so you're not doing anything particularly bad by snacking - you just need to head it in a more productive direction! :)

Keep working at it - you WILL see results if you just stay consistent!

Cheers,
Maya

Oh, don't I know it! Seemed that everyone else (at work) noticed my weight loss and although they paid me compliments DH didn't, and fact is he got MAD at me (you've GOT to read my early blogs on my journey!). It seems he thought I was SEEING somebody and got really super jealous!
There are several help articles here on SparkPeople that help with the negative influences in our lives.
I can tell you this from experience --- you KEEP ON keeping on and you do this for YOUR satisfaction. You look at YOUR accomplishments and you pat your back - ONE DAY the family WILL say something (good OR bad, so be ready!) and eventually they'll be saying things to you like my DH started to me: Hey there, Skinny!
YOU CAN DO THIS! You be healthy for YOU!
You can be one of two things - your best friend or your worst enemy. Don't let the negative thoughts/influences of others heap onto your shoulders and bring you down.
BLOG your successes. I'll read them, and I'll post a comment, too!

WELL THE DEAL WITH MY FAMILY IS THAT THEY KNOW THAT I AM TRYING TO BE HEALING, BUT THEY AREN'T TOO KEEN ON THE HEALTHY THINGS THAT I AM DOING. I HAVE LOST ABOUT 20LBS SINCE 1-1-09, BUT NOT ONCE HAVE THEY ACKNOWLEDGED IT. IT'S HARD TO GO DAY AFTER DAY AND TRY TO BE GOOD WITH FOOD ETC. AND IT'S LIKE NOBODY CARES. EVEN THOUGH I KNOW THAT I AM DOING THIS FOR MYSELF, IT WOULD BE NICE TO HEART SOMETHING FROM MY FAMILY TO BOOST MY CONFIDENCE. OH I DON'T KNOW, I GUESS IT GETS A LITTLE FRUSTRATING. emoticon

Congrats on staying with your exercise, PANSAS, and the rest of us, too! Walking is so healthy and it's something we can do anywhere, any time. Even if we are angry with family members. We can STOMP around, burn calories, and release stress. The family won't know we're "losing weight" while we're doing it, so they won't even TRY to sabotage our efforts.
Ha!
emoticon
I guess we showed THEM!

We ALL get props for our exercise!
emoticon
Consistent exercise is the change that has helped me enjoy a happier life and keep me at least 50 lbs below my highest and most unhealthy weight for over 5 years, even during the worst of the relapses in my efforts. This week I'm 64.6 lbs below the high one that had me in pain and doctors concerned.

It gives us the strength we need to stretch our limits, when we give ourselves credit for the things we HAVE done and ARE doing now.

Thanks, MRSHONEYC, for the reminder that we are shedding FAT and replacing some of it with MUSCLE. A pox on anything the scale says! It will get the word eventually, PAT.

What's YOUR family's deal, PANSAS?
Don't they want you to be healthy?

Ah, Pat. Those last niggling pounds seem to take forEVER to shake off, but your trainer is RIGHT. You're on track! How are your other forms of measuring? The measuring tape, your clothes fit?
You keep on keeping on and then one day BAM! those last 4-6 will be GONE! You're replacing fat with nice lean muscle, so that last loss SEEMS hardest, but it's FAT that you've gotten rid of.
Don't forget that you've got to keep getting in enough calories and the proper amount of micro nutrients as well -- and keep hydrating.

I looked at your page for clues about what might have you stuck. I see that you have a history of taking care of others and running out of time for yourself and, with your dreams out there somewhere, you joined SP this January and began doing the Boot Camp exercises.

Are you still doing them? And what about food and water? Are you tracking your food and drinking enough water? Is it a plateau OR do you have trouble staying on track?
emoticon
Staying positive helps with motivation. I had a difficult winter, gaining while trying to lose, self-bashing over mistakes, and weakening confidence.

Reading Coach Dean's Motivational articles and blogs helped me get it turned around (11.2 lbs down in the last 6 weeks). We also received a "Healthy Reflections" email from SP that I found motivating. It's about making the tough choices that will turn SOMEDAY into NOW. Anyone have a copy?

Don't worry. You'll be fine. We'll all put our heads together and figure out some options.
