Sunday Blessings :) Still loving, loving, loving family time and togetherness

A very enjoyable weekend.

1 DH and I spent Saturday and Sunday with DS and DIL in Vancouver. It is a holiday long weekend so the city was kind of empty. A lot of people headed out of town. We were thankful everyone in the city was very social-distance conscious. We walked in 2 different parks on Saturday and 1 one Sunday. 20,000 plus steps on Saturday

2 When we got home at 2pm, oldest DD wanted to go for a walk through the fields and to the river, so I went with her.

3. Tomorrow oldest DD and DH are going on a hike. I am going to finalize an apartment rental for my brother. I would really like to go on the hike with DD and DH. Oh well. I am thankful we found an apartment for my brother and hope next week to report in the Sunday Blessings that he is moved in and all is well.

Tomorrow's hike.

- Blueberry pancakes that went right this morning (they don't always turn out well)!

- a friend messaging me and inviting me to go round and chant with her - it was great - I haven't been to chant with anyone else since mid-March (Buddhist chanting - in case you're wondering).

- getting a load of washing dried on the line - filled with fresh air and sunshine

- news of a new Great Nephew born last night!

- delicious coffee

What a little sweetie, Phyllis !!

I am thankful for closer and more family times.

Summed up by a family member

That’s so awesome that we get to spend more time with our kids!! We have spent a lot of time together as a family and it has brought us all a lot closer despite the current situation

Usually everyone is working and doing their own thing, but we’ve been given time to relax and reflect and enjoy our time together and to enjoy the outdoors! It’s really wonderful

I enjoyed this hike with DD and Frida (our dog) on Saturday. This is one of my favourite hikes, it has a challenging climb through the forest to the first peak then a ridge from the first to the second peak with open spectacular views beautiful alpine flower meadows

It is all about holidays :)

These are all staycations, in our province, not crossing any borders provincial or federal. It is nice to have a big and not densely populated province to comply with COVID social distancing

It is sunny today after too much rain in June and July so far

Oldest DD was home for a day and we planned some time together for holidays next January or February - a ski holiday !!

DH, DS, DIL oldest DD and I have planned an August holiday together in Squamish and Pemberton - which is an awesome outdoors mountain seaside recreational area

I am going for 3 days in August with a friend to Thetis Island, a beautiful island with swimming, snorkelling, paddle boarding and wind surfing area

Next week DH and I are going on a 4-day and 3-night road trip - which we talked about doing last year but are finally going this year. It is really hard for DH to go on holiday unless he is going to Italy to visit family. It might be the start of some several-day get-away holidays in our semi-retirement

And - everyone is healthy and thriving - the biggest blessing of all

Feeling a bit of doldrums as DS and DIL left yesterday

- thankful that this week's forecast has some sunny warm days after many days of rain
- thankful that the house is clean and DS and DIL helped to tidy up and do regular household chores every day while they were here
- thankful that youngest DD was so helpful as our delivery person during the last 2 weeks of isolation
- thankful that we had some fresh peas from our garden and they were delicious
- thankful that Frida the dog is such a sweet and wonderful buddy and goes with me walking and working in the barn and hangs out in the house with me too
- thankful that on this day, which is oldest DD's birthday, that she is thriving and successful
- thinking of arranging a birthday dinner with my niece and her as they have July birthdays and we did that last year with the intention of making it a yearly tradition
- especially thankful that everyone is healthy physically and emotionally

Woo Hoo Gill, awesome to have the loan finished and done with !!

This weekend, all my kids were home.

Oldest DD came home from Wednesday morning to Sunday morning. We haven't seen her since Christmas. She was planning to come home for a while in March and then.... COVID protocols.
DS is here until he gets his green card - hopefully his wife will join us for a while when the US border opens
Youngest DD and partner work on the farm with us and live next door.

We had a nice meal all together last night made by DS - Pulled chicken on tortillas with fixings (sliced avocado, grated cheese, sour cream, plain yogurt, cilantro) and a black bean and corn salad. I made the salad.

The young people had a internet meeting with DS's wife and with a cousin and his wife and played some games, Fibbage, Drawful, and caught up with each other.

This morning we had a family brunch, youngest DD made most of the meal, french toast, apple sauce, hash browns, eggs, wild duck sausage (home-made by one of her friends), coffee, tea.
Oldest DD left late morning to go back to Vancouver.

On another tack, last week DS helped me and DH helped as well to clean up some areas in the house that have been accumulating. DS has committed to helping with more decluttering every Thursday. Kind of embarrassing, but I have let some areas go too long, and so nice that DS wants to help me.

In July, August and September, oldest DD will be working in a hospital close to us, so 45 minutes easy drive away compared to her now 75 minutes drive, 30 of which is through big city traffic (Vancouver). She plans to stay with us most of the time. We don't know yet if DS will still be here all depending on when he gets his green card. But could be we will have a chance to reconnect with the kids as adults and form some good warm bonds going forward.

One of my nicest blessing this week is knowing that I've finished paying off a loan I had to take out to move house two years' ago! The email came with a big banner saying "HAPPY DAYS!"
which was really nice.

We've had a week of sunshine - and it's lovely. So nice to have the good weather and I'm grateful for the uplift that gives to my spirit.

I've been eating well and sticking to my plan - and that feels good too.

Most of all - I'm looking forward to starting out at Day 1 again tomorrow!

My son is home
a downer for him because he just finished a program in Montreal and had hoped to go to his home in Seattle, where his wife stayed while he was taking the program. He hasn't received his green card yet, it is in process and he expected to have it by now, alas COVID has interfered. Also the Canada-US border is still closed until at least June 21 so his wife can't come up to visit him.
At the same time -
- he is thankful he is healthy
-he is thankful he has a job and can work from home
- he is thankful he is less than 3 hours driving distance from his wife and they can be together again when the border opens, or when he gets his green card, whichever comes first
- he is happy to spend some time with us - since he left to go to university 10 years ago, he hasn't lived at home
- he is happy to have home-cooked meals
- DH and I wish circumstances for him were different, at the same time we are very happy to have him home for a while

DS arriving at the airport yesterday - he changed out of his travel clothes into clothes I brought him, so they don't fit haha. His high school clothes that were in his closet. They are baggy because he was athletic in high school, now he is slim with less muscles. We are being a bit careful for the first 2 weeks he will be home, staying away from him by 6 feet or more, washing our hands and wiping down stuff after he touches it, he is eating on the outside of the counter that separates the dining room from the kitchen. He wears his mask when he is not in his room or not eating. Better than nothing, for sure not entirely safe. DH and I aren't worried, we think we are healthy and strong, he is a bit worried because he would feel awful if we got COVID from him

So very nice to have him home, he has a funny energetic personality, he is such a pleasure to have around.

I was able to have a refreshing, uplifting, walk at 6.30am today - to sit on a bench in the beach-side gardens and listen to the birds. So nice. I am blessed to be able to walk, and to live by the sea.

I have four new balls of wool for my blanket-knitting project - so great to be able to order these things over the internet now. I am blessed to have enough money to buy the wool and blessed to have access to the internet.

Fresh coffee - always feels somehow indulgent and nurturing - so lovely. I am blessed to be able to buy coffee locally when it has had to come right around the world to get to me - for my pleasure.

I am blessed to have a sweet family who share news and photos with me on What'sApp.

The Prime Minister has announced some easing of the lock-down - for me the greatest joy is being allowed to sit outside again - to sit on a bench and enjoy the sun and the view (we had to keep moving before)

I've really enjoyed having a week off work - annual leave - and have de-stressed immensely

the sun comes through my front windows for a little while in the morning; and in my kitchen for a short time in the evening - I really enjoy those sunbeams.

I forgot to post my Sunday blessings last week..........

it was my last shift at work before a 9-day break and I came home and listened to an hour of The Rolling Stones Ole concert on You Tube.

my blessing is being safe here - not sick - not unemployed - not in debt

pay day also meant I could order a new cookery book, a new recorder, a new ironing board cover, a new iron, and a table-top water feature (because I miss being able to get out by the water every day)

I'm really enjoying my Sunday today - a cousin of mine posted a link to a Rockin' 1000 music video - oh, my, goodness - I spent some time listening to rock music loud on my headphones!

Music! Today I'm particularly grateful for music, and blessed to have good hearing and some musical aptitude!

Thanks Gill for the YouTube tech info.

Thanks Gill and Sue for you condolences. Sue I didn't know you were Italian. North of Turin, that is where Alberto's family came from, near the Swiss and French border there are high mountain valleys, they were from there and part of a Protestant group called the Waldensians living in the east Cottian Alps area, hard working and poor people. Alberto's dad was born around 1890 and 9th in a family of 15 children. School was not compulsory then, at age 13 he went with his older 20ish brother to look for work in England, started out as a restaurant dishwasher and eventually became head waiter in a gentlemen's club. He returned to Italy and returned to England with a bride from his village, Alberto and his sister were born and lived their whole lives in London. Alberto trained and worked as a draftsman making technical drawings and plans. I couldn't find Quagliuzze on Google, I wonder if it is close to there.

I was browsing through our Team page and see that some of you are still posting here. I think it is a great idea to take stock of our blessings with gratitude. This week:

1. My family's continued good health
2. One more room completed and checked off my cleaning list post floor refinishing project
3. Our stable financial situation on a fixed retirement income
4. The end of a cold spell and a couple days of sunshine
5. Daily walks in the fresh air.

Sorry, June, about the loss of Alberto. I love that you have so many good memories of your time together. My family lives in Quagliuzze which is a bit north of Turin. As f last week they were all feeling well.

Lovely memories, June. I was brought up near London and we regularly visited The City for those cultural experiences. Lyons Corner House was the treat - for ice cream sundaes & cream soda!

To share You Tube videos from a certain point, when you click on 'share' read the box carefully, in the UK at least there's an option to 'share from' then you choose the time. Then copy that link.

Thanks for the info Gill

The YouTube, when I clicked the link was exactly at the part of the video where Dr John Campbell was talking about care home Covid-19 reporting, how did you do that? I didn't know you could send YouTube links paused at specific points.

My cousin-in-law Alberto, I visited him and my cousin many times from when I was a child to when I brought my kids. We had many good memories. At age 7 they brought us to the London Zoo, at age 12 to the British Museum, I remember seeing the Rosetta Stone and the Magna Carta, with my kids, they took us to Whipsnade Zoo, to see Stone Henge, and in London, to see the Tower of London, a museum of airplanes, Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard, out to eat fish and chips in an English pub... and many more fun times I can remember spending with them at their home. They lived in a duplex that is so typical of England, in the movies like Shirley Valentine, Billy Elliot, The Full Monty and other British films I recognized the home layouts being the same as my cousins'. He was loved and will be missed and remembered.

I'm sorry you lost your cousin-in-law........... and, yes, you're right, at the moment only deaths in hospital that are confirmed Covid-19 are being counted in the fatalities statistics. The Government have announced that other deaths from C-19 in care homes, or at home, will be counted (eventually). I think with older people, and people with underlying health conditions, the coroners have a difficult time confirming the exact cause of death........... it might be put down to 'pneumonia' for example. I guess the correct numbers will eventually appear. The problems comes down to testing - if people who live and/or die in care homes aren't tested, then they never know if they had C-19 or not. The Government have pledged to extend testing to care home staff, and residents who display symptoms - but whether they'll achieve that goal or not remains to be seen. Care workers, for example, can be tested, but only if they live near a test centre, and only if they can drive themselves to the test centre in their own car, on their own. That probably excludes at least 50% of care workers!

My small world continues to thrive.

DH and I are planting a big vegetable garden this year, that will be a blessing that comes from finding things to do at home while staying home.

Our regional health authority imposed stay-at-home at a time when we were still early on the infection curve and we are seeing a flattening of the curve - we still have to wait another 10 days to see if we have been able to avoid the surge. My DD works in the hospital and says they are ready, as much as possible procedures have been cancelled and the wards are half empty waiting for the possible tsunami. Some people are actually starting to comment on overkill for protocols and think we should get back to normal now, they don't have a sense of the exponential growth pattern of infections and think we are already out of the woods. Sigh. But the regional health authorities are being firm about continued self-isolation for at least another 2 weeks.

On a sad note, our family has lost a member to Covid-19. Alberto, married to my cousin, 94 years old, born in London, England, to Italian parents, lived in London all his life, was struggling with his health and in and out of hospital for the last year, was getting nursing care at home, was moved into a old-age care home for better nursing support, caught Covid-19 there, passed away in April. We visited him last year and he was so happy to see us all, to meet my brother's daughter for the first time. His widow, my cousin, is in her 80s and continuing to live at home with 3x daily home nursing visits. Gill, our news says only hospital Covid-19 deaths are reported in UK Covid-19 death statistics. Is that true? If so, my cousin-in-law would not have been counted. In Canada, nursing home deaths count for more than half of the Covid-19 deaths.

My cousin who lives in Lugano Switzerland just across the border from hard hit north Italy, the only persons so far of my relatives who has experienced illness, and not sure if it was C19, but they are recovered and well now. He finds this time personally challenging with teenage sons and has written a good snapshot of theses times.

Dear family and friends

we are all fine, let’s start it this way.

However, we had pretty tuff times the last 25 days.
I thought to share with you in a few words and in telegraphic (?) and open heart way our recent experience under Quarantaine.

With 70k workers crossing every day the border from a infected area to lugano, it was obvious that contagion  would spread rapidly. we shot ourselves down around the 10.3 and the kids stopped school the 15th.
After a dinner on the 13th, I got a diverticulitis alert that sent me into strict diet right away. lost 5 kg, so ok:))
Further to that, I started to have muscle pain, back pain, not well feeling and no power. I got sick!

We than split bedrooms as DW was also feeling bad with some caught. From there, we would only act in minimum power mode, just doing the right necessary and sleeping or just lying down. We never had real fever with a max of 37. I don’t know what we had, but we where sick! no discussion about that! a kind of Corona light ? This was a unknown  and unpleasant experience.

Next to health issues, we had the kids that suffered full cancellation of their sport training. DS1 4x and DS2 3x a week. School was of since the 15th and was absolutely not prepared for a switch to online teaching.
So there was no school and the kids wanting to go out. Was quite a struggle to find a middle way respecting the "stay at home” issue. Must say that  the police sends the kids away very quickly when they are playing on school playgrounds, so it helps. :((
- Today, DS1 has only twice a day one hour of online lesson. really little time is dedicated to teaching. Platform is not robust and the teacher have difficulties to go professionally online.
- DS2 receives instructions to read in his books and responds online multiple choice questionnaires. Well done, good concept. Moodle platform works apparently for him. Middle school works better.
- It is still open, if the school will restart before mid June summer holiday. It is a fact that they have definitely too much free time during the day. we have the daily iphone time limits of 31/2 hrs on, but playstation is open. so :(( With no sport and little learning, it’s a complicated issue.

We notice and are surprised that the situation is not specially strengthening our family. The kids are in full Teenager thing and very very touchy :)) We need to insist to play a game all together, next to all the other continuous discussions. It is very tough and specially when we didn’t feel well. We all, only can learn something more here about relationships, with the kids. We don’t have any issue, she is the boss anyway:))

The kids are feeling great and always available to go to the supermarket. this is a good thing.
The 2 or 3 times I went, I was really suffering below the mask and gloves standing for so long time to get in.
I healed on April 1st and it’s no joke. I am finally out of it. DW today also. It goes without saying that we will continue our quarantine, as I am convinced that the only way is that we all stay at home for a while. For us it’s nearly one month that we are at home.

Life in Lugano, for the little I know, is in complete shut down. only supermarkets, pharmacy, tobacco shop and fuel stations are open. In the supermarket you can only buy food and beverage. No Easter bunny :((
DW and I play a lot of backgammon, Scala 40 or scrabble. With the kids we have a Quiz thing that is cool.
Monopoly was played some times. Our dear friend gave us a 1000 piece puzzle :((, a drug this thing, DW and I have been obsessed by this puzzle, Dubai on top of it :(( but good fun!
We look movies all together every 2nd day. Unfortunately, DS2 is attracted by this US rapper gang scene thing, so we have issues in choosing the movies :)). We find a compromise at the end, but is must be action!

Ok, to conclude, we understand that seeing this casualties in Ticino, you might have be afraid, but we are both structurally healthy and in no way can suffer a terminal sickness from the Corona virus. The Kids are out of scope anyway. Thanks to God, this is today's situation.
Now, how work and business and our lives will restart is still unknown.

Yesterday, was the 11th anniversary of the premature leaving of DW's father, that left us all orphans.
Let me conclude on this Sunday of the Palms, with our warmest wishes that today should shine the rainbow of hope and healing to all humanity. That you and your families be blessed with health and happiness.

We thank you all for your messages and mails. Stay safe at home with your closed loved ones.
We will meet soon again.

We love you all and send you thousands of telematic hugs.

I've been away since 2 am, it's now 4. It's great to read this post at this hour.

I'm thankful that I got our dog to the vet on Saturday. He was due for shots and his physical. An assistant retrieved him from the car while I waited, then the dr. called me on the phone. Wow, we live in an age where I can be called on the phone while I'm in my car!

1. My husband, son & dog
2. My weight loss to date.
3. That my husband goes to his office daily to work and teach online. His income has not been cut.
4. That I have a job, but I'm working fewer hours; it's fine, our entertainment expenses went away, so it all evens out.
5. That we have so many hiking trails to choose from that are nearby. I'm hugely thankful for that, knowing that many places have closed those.
6. For my energy level that is up because of my exercise and eating healthy.
7. Good sleep, most nights.
8. Worship and Bible study online.
9. The 100 DWL team with Gill as our leader. You all are a great encouragement to me!
10. Thankful for all the help I've had to lose over 30 pounds.

Babs and June, it is so heartwarming to share news of everyone being well!

Our family is still well also. Our kids do all our shopping too and we can still go to our house in the country that we are in the process of moving out of so we are very blessed.

Counting my blessings that all my Italian family is safe - my parents come from Bergamo, one of the hardest hit areas. But no one in my family is sick, they are all safe and staying home. They say there is a slaughterhouse atmosphere with so many corpses in the hospitals daily, the army has to clear them away and help with transport to funerals. My relatives are all healthy. DH was born in Bergamo, all his family is there, also no one sick, including his 88 and 94 year old aunts. We had planned to go there March 23 - April 14, we usually visit for 10 days about that time of year because it is after winter and before spring field work. This year we had planned to go for 3 weeks as we turned over daily operation of the farm to DD and her partner in January this year. But this year we are not going. I am also very thankful we did our big trip last year with niece who hadn't been to Europe or met a lot of our relatives. This year for sure we could not have gone and who knows when we would be able to go again.

Beautiful weekend
My DD, GS and GD live with me. So I am not alone.
My GS is willing - NO, make that decided he 'must' shop for me.
My GD keeps me company (draw, journal, movies, she dances)
My DD bought carry out for dinner
Flowers/trees are blooming

At first I thought - why do they keep me at home!! That isn't right. I'll go out if I want to. Wrong way to look at it. It dawned on me after about 15 minutes - they were thinking of me. My GS said 'I worry about you, Grandma. You're in 'that high risk' age.' So rather than be upset I feel blessed.

Counting my blessings

- everyone in my family is healthy
- no one in my family got laid off
- so no one in my family has reduced income

- that's pretty amazing, either they are working in essential services and products (2 health care workers, one grain dock longshoreman, 4 of us are working on our dairy farm) or they are working from home ( one works for national parks planning and administration, one is a social worker, two work for information technology companies)

Gosh the list of things I am grateful for could go on at some length! Here are just a few for today:

1. A good nights sleep in the comfortable bed of our rental
2. Warm, soft slippers to put my feet in so I don't have to walk on the cold tile floors
3. My morning cup of coffee
4. The internet that helps distract me
5. Plenty of food in the frig
6. Plentiful hot water for my body, our dishes, our laundry; for whatever we want
7. Our good health and that of my 93 year old father
8. The gal who cleans my dad's apartment and went the extra mile for him by doing his grocery shopping this past week.
9. The love of my DH
10 . The unconditional affections of our dog, Ollie
11. The beautiful blue skies and Florida sunshine.
12. The ability to get outside and walk throughout the neighborhood

Gee, and the day is only have way!

I'm thankful we can go outside and stay 6 feet away. Our stay-in officially started Friday but all business that are non-essentials have been shut down for 2 weeks so we are okay with the changes.

It rained all day Saturday and we stayed-in. Sunday morning snow and rain. Later it will be sunny and I can walk to the grocery store and get what I need. DH goes to his office to teach online. Buddy is getting more attention. emoticon

Counting my blessings today and the day has just begun!

I have wonderful kids, close by, who move furniture, bring me groceries, etc.
The internet and cell phone have become life lines for sure.
My new neighbors, Betty & Debbie are wonderful. We can keep our distance and still chat and wave to each other.
We actually got mail yesterday so the Post Office got our change of address.
Having fabric to share for face masks that my niece is making, she works in the hospital.
A best friend that I can call and we have a “coffee chat” on the phone.
Birds are singing, the sun is rising and you wonderful friends are here!
emoticon I am so truly blessed. emoticon

Never before have (well, not in my lifetime, and I'm 65) have we had something like this Covid-19 pandemic that is affecting every single person in the world.

Most of us are living now under some kind of movement restrictions. When you can't do something, you want to do it more! And I found myself desperately craving a walk in the countryside, or along the beach, or even just a stroll around the park. But that's not happening for me today. And I felt envious of people who live in the countryside, or have big gardens to enjoy. Then I decided to count my blessings - here are a few of them.

I do have a safe home, and have the sunshine coming in through my little bay window, and I can sit here and drink a coffee and have a read.

I do have the internet, and I can do a workout later.

I do have a day off work - so can rest and relax. And I do have a job, so the money will keep coming in.

I do have enough food in the house so that I don't need to go on a shopping excursion until next Thursday (which is a week since the last shop).
