Go to your Sparkpage and edit it. At the bottom of your preferences, you can uncheck the "share" option and you will still be able to blog and have others read it, but it will not leave the Spark realm.

This is the information I got from other groups I belong to.

So here is my dilemma... I have a mormon.org profile. I mention a few things... the state I live in, the general area I grew up in, where my son is serving his mission, where my girls are adopted from... Stuff that I probably wouldn't normally write here but I did there; maybe because I felt it was more appropriate in that forum. I tried to keep in fairly vague. However, I do post that link at the end of my posts and on my sparkpage because I feel like it is doing what the prophet has asked us to do - missionary work. I think my biggest concern is knowing who has access to what. How do I make things private rather than assume that they are private? Sigh, I guess I am just a pretty open person and it is sometimes hard to remember that I don't truly know who is reading what I write. It isn't like I have anything to his of course, but I recognize that in this world there are weirdos out there. And honestly, when I found out about this all I could think of was that one of my posts about my weight-loss struggles could end up on FB for anyone to read! This struggle is very personal and I don't want anyone to have access to some of the things share here...

Unlike WalkingGrandma I do blog. It is different from my journal because I accept "public" comment on it. I try not to post stuff that I don't want to "tell the world" on my blog. I leave off the names of my kids and other family members. I only post my first name. If you want to know where my missionary is I put it in a private message, if I have told his last name. (Although I figure the missionary is safe.)

I can post what I need to within my parameters. There is not many people who know me in "real life" that know my SP username. Just do what you need to so you can feel safe.

Walking Grandma is right you can use descriptives to eliminate the need to say specifics. I hope you can feel comfortable because this is a great site if you have some personal rules to keep you safe.

I'm not sure it is a big deal to many. My kids usually don't care where stuff is posted. I have some privacy issues and have never publicly blogged. It has been hard at times as there are many things I would like to say but I do this in the privacy of a journal if needed. Everything you put on the Internet is essentially public. Pictures, words, even passworded things can be found in some places.

I'm usually careful not to put too many details of my life so if someone were to find anything I said, they would not necessarily be able to connect it to me. Names, places, etc, are rarely found in statements I make on the Internet.

I think that our blogs should remain private, but if it is public blog, it can show up on the "Spark Blog" which is where we find many things. Some people enjoy being published. It is a personal feeling.

Make sure you are protected by not putting too many details into your blogs or posts. DS, DD, DH, etc are great substitutes for family names. "My Ward, My Town," etc, are great ways to protect your location.

I received an email last night re: this and I have gone to my page already and unchecked the box. You would think that they could let us know what they are going to do and ask for our input before they do it !

I recently went to sparkguys spark page and saw many negative comments about the possibility of our blogs being posted on FB / Twitter by others and was horrified! Here is a link to a page where a fellow spark tells you how to inactivate this option on your own page. I have to say, this is exactly why I hesitate to post much of anything anywhere!
