Wow! You all sound like you are having so much fun. Yeah, I live in Utah. Its gorgeous here. I am not originally from here though I am from NY and so is my husband. We are a military family so we relocated here so hubby could work at the AFB but he is out now and working civil service there. I am a Veteran as well. I sure do miss my family and I guess that is why I like to make friends. My sons still live with us. They range in age from 16-23. They are great. I am really envious of people who have so much family around but at least I have my ward family!

My old ward has a 4th of July breakfast. Our ward is kind of limited right now because our building is under construction. We are not a 3 phase building but they are putting the 3rd part. We are getting a new chapel, a 3/4 gym and some other rooms. It should be done soon. (I don't know how soon they are behind I think).

We will have a ward BBQ at the local park in my town. They also do a service project that day. We rent the pool but let anyone swim with us. So it is fun for the kids. That will be next month. I forgot about that. I guess we do have "Mormon Day" someplace. The ward swim they just kind of let anyone swim. It is fun.

My stake is not so big as that. About an hour and a half travel time, from me to the furthest point away. I cannot imagine passing chapels to get to my own. I have never lived like that.

I've lived in those places. When you can walk everywhere in your ward in a few minutes but the building is outside the ward boundaries (in once case we drove past three buildings to get to ours) you know you live in Utah.

I've also lived in places where people looked at my family and asked if we were Mormon or Catholic. Places where the ward boundaries are 45 miles long and almost as wide are also my old wards. Stakes were over 400 miles in width. My stake is about 2.5 miles end to end but it is a long and skinny stake that takes a turn at one point.

Had to drive almost an hour to my cousin's branch when I visited her.

The church is true no matter where you live. I love the activities that bring ward members together. Since I live so near my kids, I don't feel the same need to connect. That is probably not a good thing for me.

My ward had a BBQ for the 4th of July. It was fun. The ward supplied the burgers, hot dogs, buns and condiments. Our RS asked that each family bring a salad or dessert. My hubby and I helped "man" the grills. It was fun watching the brothers and older boys, including our Bishop, tossing the football around. The smaller children played on the grass or threw Frisbees.

I cannot imagine having a ward that is only a couple of blocks large. We had a branch in this town before they added a couple of neighborhoods from a neighboring city.

The only summer activities we have is some of the moms get their kids together at the park. Plus some of us meet for the library activities. Otherwise I just find stuff for my kids to do.

I cannot imagine "Mormon" day anywhere. I have never experienced such a thing.

Different culture that is for sure. There are only a couple of families who are active Latter Day Saints at the High School. (I guess it will be 3 this next year.) Maybe two at the middle school and a three at the elementary school. That is including my family.

I live in an area where the ward is a couple of blocks large. We have a "walkabout" on Fast Sundays where a few families host and the ward members walk between the homes and visit with other ward members. I don't go as I either work or have my kids over for dinner, but those who do enjoy it.

Another son who lives nearby says his ward has also started it.

Other than that, this summer is a bust. Got a lot of family things going on.

Hi all!

I am just wondering what fun things have been happening with you all this summer? Do your wards have anything planned for the summer? My ward is having biweekly block parties! We also have activities like discounts at our local amusement park. The other day I saw that they had "Mormon day" with the dodgers. Did any of you see that? Have a great day! I am excited to meet some of you and so happy this board exists.
