Batch of Scofflaw Cocktails

4 oz bourbon or rye
2 oz dry vermouth
1/2 oz lemon juice
1 oz grenadine
1/2 oz Cointreau, or orange liqueur
1 dash orange bitters per glass

Fill cocktail shaker 2/3 full of ice. Add all ingredients, cover, and shake vigorously for 100 shakes. Pour into martini glass, and serve.

Serves 2

Note: I adapted the original recipe. Use a good quality bourbon or rye. I would recommend Bulliet bourbon, or Four Roses for bourbon, or if you are a bourbon drinker use your usual choice. Both of these bourbons are of good quality and won't break the bank. I used all Knob Creek Rye, and it was delicious! Rye adds just a little hint of spice notes. I also like Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, but only buy that if it's on sale.
I also added a little Orange Liqueur to the mix.
All in all, a very balanced and tasty drink!

Great idea to add Prosecco...I am thinking too, if having a party it would be a good batch drink. To be honest, I'd be afraid to make more than one at a time.

Cranberry Pomegranate Martini 2

2 oz Vodka
1 oz Cointreau
2 dashes Orange Bitters
2 oz Pom Pomegranate Juice
2 oz Ocean Spray Unsweetened 100% Pure Cranberry Juice
1-2 oz Simple Syrup, or your choice of sweetner
Pomegranate Seeds for Garnish, optional

Fill cocktail shaker 2/3 full of ice.
Add all ingrdients.
Cover, and shake for 15-30 seconds until ice cold.
Pour into Martini glass.
Pour through strainer into martini glass and serve.
Top off with a few Pomegranate seeds For festive garnish

Serves 1

Note: I found the Ocean Spray Unsweetened Pure Cranberry Juice on the bottom shelf in the area where the Ocean Spray Cranberry Juices were. It is a tall, skinny bottle unlike the rest of the Ocean Spray products, and contains 32 ounces. It was a bargain at a little over $5 for the quart bottle which was a little more than half the cost of any other 100% Pure Cranberry Juices in the store - which ranged in price from $8.50 - $11.99 a quart!

***** To make a New Year’s Martini, top off with 2 ounces of chilled Prosecco.

A green drink for St. Patrick's Day. . .

Fuzzy Leprechaun

1 oz Peach Schnapps
1 oz Blue Curacao
1 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Orange Juice
½ oz Pineapple Juice

Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake
Strain into glass and garnish with orange and cherry

Note:
I adapted this again. I'm sorry, it's the perfectionist coming out in me.

Equal parts of all to make the "right color green"; in other words 1 ounce of each. I also used Vanilla Vodka. I love that stuff!
I double the amounts in cocktail shaker 3/4 full of ice.
Shake for 30 seconds and strain into an Old Fashioned glass.

Threw this together for a Sunday Brunch Libation this morning, and we both agreed it was delicious! Of course, you could enjoy one of these anytime, not just for brunch!

Dreamsicle Screwdriver

2 oz Orange Liqueur, such as Cointreau - don't use Triple Sec - it's too sweet
I used La Belle Orange Liquor which is half the price of Cointreau
4 oz Vanilla Vodka, I use Stolichnaya Vanilla Vodka - it has a clean, smooth, vanilla taste
6 oz Orange Juice - Not From Concentrate - I use Florida's Natural or Simply Orange

Fill cocktail shaker two-thirds full of ice. Add all ingredients. Shake well to combine.
Pour into champagne flute or rocks/old fashion glass. Enjoy!

Makes 2 cocktails
Note: Add a little sparkle and pizazz by topping off with a splash of Prosecco or champagne; but I don't know about you but we never have leftovers! LOL!!!

Eggnog Martini

2 oz Vanilla Vodka
3 oz Eggnog
1 oz Amaretto
Nutmeg, for topping

Place all ingredients in cocktail shaker 2/3 filled with ice. Shake for about 30 seconds.
Pour into martini glass. Top with a few grinds of fresly grated nutmeg. Enjoy!

This was terrific! Going to do a variation later today with 2 oz spiced bourbon, and 1 oz vanilla vodka. You could sub Frangelico for the Amaretto, too.

OH MY! You did miss your calling as a mixologist! Both libations sound wonderful. Just made the spiced cranberries this morning (my recipe is very much like yours! After reading your recipe, will add cinnamon next time).

So, looks like it's going to be cocktail time!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Cranberry Pomegranate Martini

2 ounces Bacardi Raspberry Vodka, or regular vodka
3 ounces Langer’s 100% Pomegranate Juice
¼ cup Spiced Cranberry Sauce - see recipe below
A Dash of Peychauds Bitters

Throw all ingredients into blender.
Blend on High for 30 seconds, or until sauce is puréed.
Add to cocktail shaker 2/3 filled with ice, and shake for at least 30 seconds.
Pour through strainer into martini glass and serve.

Serves 1

Spiced Cranberry Sauce

1 12-ounce bag fresh, or defrosted, cranberries
¾ cup sugar
½ cup (packed) light brown sugar
1 ½ cups water
4 whole cloves
6 whole allspice
2 cinnamon sticks
1 1x2-inch strip orange peel, or 1 teaspoon orange zest - no white pith

Combine all ingredients except cranberries in medium saucepan.
Bring to just below a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves, and liquid is clear. DO NOT BOIL.
Add cranberries, stirring occasionally until cranberries pop. Reduce heat to low and simmer until contents thicken, and are reduced by one third, or about 10 minutes.
Remove from heat, and allow to cool.
Remove only 1 cinnamon stick, and transfer sauce, along with spices, to covered container.
Cover and refrigerate.
Keeps forever in frig, and gets better with age!

Note: The Raspberry vodka added a great layer of flavor to the drink.
To make a New Year’s Martini, top off with 2 ounces of chilled Prosseco.

This is what I found today on fb as a memory that I stole from Sharon. Looked through two threads so thought I'd give you credit again and repost it. Afterall, it is Taco Tuesday.

Here's A summer cooler that should be easy for you to try for Happy Hour today. Should have most of the ingredients on hand and ready to go. I wouldn't worry about having "gold" tequila. I would think any tequila is fine.
And here we go . . ."One tequila, two tequila, three tequila floor!"

Creamsicle Margarita

½ oz. orange liqueur
½ oz. fresh lime juice
3 oz. orange juice
1 ½ oz. gold tequila
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
6 oz. ice

Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until slushy.

This sounds good, Kelly! Might have to give this a trial run before the 4th of July! I think a simple syrup would be just as good as the agave. I make it up a quart at a time, and keep it in the frig. Maybe even some real honey - no corn syrup or high fructose syrup - in it.
You could also sub Watermelon Vodka in lieu of the Rose.

I am surprised at the "explosion" of flavored vodkas! Went into the local liquor store a couple of weeks ago, and one whole back wall was nothing but flavored vodka! Almost anything you can imagine - but sadly - no bacon. emoticon

What's not to love about bellini's, besides it includes a food group. Fresh peaches are coming in, sadly with a late freeze they won't be as plentiful. Although one orchard was told the lesser ones cook up just great.

Rose` ?slushie, cooler, whatever?
Syrah Rose` (on the hunt for that, which brought to mind Mateus Rose in the cute bottle) my guy is on the case.
Freeze the Rose in ice cube trays at least 6 hours
Blend and freeze
2 cups watermelon
1/2 c lime juice
1/4 c Aperol (orange liqueur)
2 oz agave syrup

Throw it all back in a blender and reblend.
I'm going to say make the syrup the same as if it were sugar.

I will go with your new version too. Agree it may work better since ice is probably being added to a drink. I was using mine to add some to iced tea for my Arnie's. I think I will use your water and sugar ratio (maybe less sugar) for the orange sour mix since the oranges are super sweet. I have been using Joe and Nelly's key lime juice for years for almost anything lime. Yes, it has a few drops of whatever that stuff is but it doesn't bother me. OH you know what would be good to try too, Meyer lemons if they are ever on sale.

I'll look for your brand Sharon when my store runs out of the brand they discounted greatly. I told them I would have been disappointed if I had paid 30 for it, but at their price (I think 13) it works for me. And if folks objected to no Cointreau, bring your own next time (or stay home) haha. I think I'd buy that just to have the bottle for homemade Bailey's or something.

This recipe looks so good, Kelly! What was your rating on the Sweet and Sour Recipe?

I think next time I am going to adapt it this way; or if any of you want to try it out this weekend, give it a go, and post a review.

Next batch I will use this ratio:

1 cup water
¾ cup sugar
8 ounces Lime Juice (as above)
8 ounces Lemon Juice (as above)

Should be much more concentrated flavor. . .

Also have been using this for Orange Liqueur in my drinks in lieu of Cointreau.
It's HALF THE PRICE, $20 here, and tastes just as good! A gal at the liquor store suggested it to me as they were out of Cointreau. I can't taste much of a difference, and once you mix it in, it makes no difference in the flavor of the cocktail.

Here's a couple of pictures so you'll be able to spot it or ask about it:

I now use this in my Cherry Bourbon Smash, and all cocktails calling for Triple Sec, or Cointreau. It's not as sweet as Cointreau, but as I said the "orange essence" is definitely there, and I can't tell the difference in the finished cocktail.

Mom (in law)'s favorite drink is a whiskey sour, made up a batch of Sharons Sweet and Sour Mix for later.

I think she would also enjoy this one from pintrest, will take the recipe with me next trip to NY. I also know the Italian side of my sis in law will enjoy this too!
Italian Sangria Cocktail

1 (750 ml) bottle chilled dry rose wine
or an Italian rosato wine
1/2 cup Cointreau or other orange liqueur
1/3 cup Cocchi Americano or brandy

2 firm ripe peaches cut into eights
1 pint strawberries hulled and halved
1/2 cup chilled club soda
ice cubes

Instructions

Combine the wine, orange liqueur, Cocchi Americano, half of the peaches, and strawberries in a pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours and up to 24 hours.

Add in the club soda, some fresh strawberries, and serve over ice.

Homemade Sweet and Sour Mix

2 cups water
1 1/2 cups sugar
7 oz Lemon Juice (NOT RECONSTITUTED) Freshly squeezed is best
7 oz Lime Juice( ( NOT RECONSTITUTED) Freshly squeezed is best

Add water to saucepan, and bring to boil. Stir in sugar until completely dissolved. Remove from heat, and let cool.
Add lemon, and lime juice, and stir to blend. Pour into bottle.
Refrigerate after using.

Makes 1 Quart

NOTE: I used Sicilian Lemon Juice, and Sicilian Lime Juice. The brand I use is Scilia. I find it in one of my grocery stores. It is pure juice.
I keep one in frig and one in pantry because I also use it for Scampi and other recipes that call for more than a tablespoon of Lemon Juice. Reconstituted Lemon Juice has salt and other things added.
I'm sure you could also use agave or Splenda in place of the sugar, too.

My Version of Olive Garden's Italian Margarita

6 fluid ounces amaretto liqueur, plus additional to dip rims of glasses
white sugar
6 fluid ounces frozen limeade concentrate
6 fluid ounces tequila
2 ounces Cointreau, or Triple Sec
6 cups ice

Directions

Dip rims of glasses into Amaretto on saucer, and then coat in sugar.
Put Limeade in blender. Add tequila, Cointreau, and Ice.
Blend to mix.
Pour into Glasses.

These were delicious last night - so good we each had two! Made my own Sweet and Sour Mix, and I used that because being Cinnco de Mayo all stores nearby were sold out of limeade. Smooth and light. I'll post the recipe for the Sweet and Sour Mix separately so it will be easy to find.

Made the Duck Fart cocktail tonight for dessert.

Doubled the amount of each of the liquors, and used Bourbon as I didn't have Crown Royal. Seemed that the ounce and a half of liquor would be nearly diluted and drowned out with the dairy. So I used 1 ounce of each of the liquors, and Half and Half in place of the milk.

Used Turkey Hill All Natural Vanilla Bean Ice Cream - very tasty. I think that's my new Vanilla Ice Cream when needed; Nice clean taste and good vanilla flavor, and not gummy like the other massed produced ice creams. Give it a try. No whip - just plain. Good flavor profile, and Great taste!

All DH could say was "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" with a smile on his face. I'm guessing that he liked it!

Try it, you'll like it. I will stick with Crown the next time I dig out the recipe, admittedly not interested in trying it with Amaretto, yes I like amaretto but just not in this one.

Raised a glass to John last night, the first one I made full strength then cut it back for the second one. Oh and it worked just fine without ice cream, used a little heavy cream and some milk since I was not going to run through a monsoon for ice cream or go out of my way to Sonic.

Shades of the 60's when we made some fabulous (and not so fab) boozy things. Dairy's good for you.

I sent them an email asking for the story behind the duck fart, hopefully they will respond.

I was going to wait until Saturday night to have this to raise a glass to John for his birthday AND I am sure to need it after sitting through hours of brainwashing but couldn't resist so I fixed it last night. I stopped at Sonic for soft serve, which worked fine. I got stuck in a massive traffic jam (didn't matter which route I took, they were all backed up because of an accident on I 40, thanks GPS there were other routes to the south you could have directed a lot of drivers to). Anyway using softserve that was really soft I just threw it all in my trusty shaker with a little more milk and I was right, mine there were with Crown, stuck with my instinct yesterday.

I wish I could remember the story behind the name, I lost the recipe card a few years ago. Maybe I'll try to see if the Red Dog Saloon has the story on line, or I could ask them. All I know is, it was almost too early in the morning to be drinking it but that name just made me order it.

How exciting, Barb. You are going to be floating until May.

The cocktail sounds great but it needs a new name maybe

I almost dropped my jaw when I saw the title of the libation. Got some news ----------------

John, Karlee & Rylund are moving here to WI! I cannot tell you that I feel higher than a kite! Rylund is Karlee's son. When I saw this title, I know EXACTLY what I am serving for their arrival. THIS could not be more perfect!

Won't be till May, so gonna have to tie myself up. Got lots to do, though.

Found this on pintrest, a fun memory of our trip to Alaska and a great bar we stopped at to watch the Giants football (we were the only non tourists in there for awhile). I don't think this is their exact recipe but seems close enough. I don't remember it being topped with whipped cream though. I do know it did not have amaretto in it.

Alaska Duck Fart Cocktail!

Ingredients

1oz Baileys
1oz Kahula
1oz Amaretto OR Crown Royal
2 scoops of Vanilla Ice cream
2oz whole Milk
Whip cream and cherry for garnish

Instructions

In a blender add all ingredients and blend until smooth
Pour into your glass and top with whip cream and a cherry
ENJOY!

Going to do Grasshoppers tonight. If you want to omit the cream, you can make "A Flying Grasshopper", by substituting Vodka for the cream. Serve in a martini glass.

Let's all hop on over to Sharon's...

Blast from the past, Grasshoppers! We made something like the Shamrock shake in the 60's using brandy because Irish creme hadn't been "invented" yet. Still it is nice of you to do a test drive for our safety Sharon. Thanks!

Boozy Shamrock Shake

You might need to pinch yourself. Flavors of cool mint, luscious vanilla, delicious Baileys Irish cream dance a jig in this thick, delicious, and unabashedly adult shamrock shake. With three different kinds of alcohol, it's a strong one. Take it slow!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

4 scoops vanilla ice cream
3 ounces creme de menthe liqueur
2 ounces vodka
3 ounces Irish cream liqueur (like Baileys)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Maraschino cherries and sweetened whipped cream for garnish

Directions:

Add vanilla ice cream, creme de menthe, vodka, Irish cream liqueur, and vanilla extract to a blender and mix until completely blended.

Divide between two glasses and top with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Serve with a straw.

Serves 2

OR YOU CAN TRY THIS

Grasshopper Cocktail

1 oz Green Creme de Menthe
1 oz Clear Creme de Cocoa
1 oz Cream or Half & Half

Put ice in cocktail shaker or Old fashioned Glass.
Pour all ingredients in and shake or stir until completely blended.
If using cocktail shaker, empty contents of cocktail shaker into martini glass.
Enjoy!

Serves 1

Italian Margarita - Copycat of Olive Garden

4 fluid ounces amaretto liqueur, plus additional
white sugar
6 fluid ounces frozen limeade concentrate
6 fluid ounces tequila
3 ounces Cointreau or Triple sec
1/3 cup orange juice
6 cups ice

Dip the rims of 4 margarita glasses in some amaretto poured in saucer, then into lightly into sugar; set aside. Pour the limeaide, tequila, amaretto, orange juice, Cointreau, and ice into the contaner of a blender. Puree until smooth, then pour into prepared glasses.

Note: I made mine by the pitcher full. Use your limeade can for measuring. I used a large can, instead of the smaller 6 oz can of frozen limeade - then added half a 'can' of water in place of the ice; add a 'can' of tequila; and then 1/2 'can' of triple sec OR Cointreau, and 4 ounces of OJ - not from concentrate. Put all in blender. Dipped rim of martini glass in Amaretto, and then in sugar. Put 3 ice cubes in the glass. Pour Margarita blended cocktail over the 'rocks' in each glass. Then gently pour 1 1/2 oz of the Amaretto in each glass, and serve. It's delicious!

CRANBERRY & CINNAMON WHISKEY SOUR

If you are planning on making the Spiced Zinfandel Cranberry Sauce to go with your Christmas Dinner, double the recipe, and serve this holiday cocktail to your guests. (You can find the Spiced Zinfandel Cranberry Sauce recipe in the "Hey Good Lookin' Whatcha Got Cookin' thread.)

I had some left in the frig from Thanksgiving, and used it to try this recipe out. So no need to make the Simple Syrup. Great shortcut, and it was fantastic!

Notes: I used about 1/4 - 1/3 cup of my leftover Cranberry Sauce instead of making the simple syrup, along with 2 ounces of bourbon per drink - 4 oz total for 2 drinks.

I made half of this recipe, halving the rest of the ingredients, because I just wanted two drinks. Left out the lime juice. I also added 3 dashes total of Peychauds Bitters for 2 drinks. I threw everything in the blender, and mixed on medium speed for about 45 seconds to fully emulsify the cranberry sauce. Then threw it in a cocktail shaker with lots of ice, and shook like crazy for about 30 seconds. Poured into 2 martini glasses. DH declared it a keeper.

Note: Dec '18 - I used 2 oz. Rittenhouse Rye this time, and added 1 oz Cointreau, or Orange Liqueur to the mix. It was delicious! Rye added a little extra warm spicyness to the cocktail.

Here is the original recipe as posted:

Cranberry & Cinnamon Whiskey Sour
Makes: 4 servings

This stunning cranberry and cinnamon whiskey sour is the ultimate holiday cocktail.

Simple Syrup:

2 cups fresh cranberries
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
2 cinnamon sticks

For the cocktails:

1 cup bourbon or whiskey
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup lime juice
Ice cubes & cocktail shaker for mixing

Instructions

1. In a medium-sized saucepan add cranberries, water, sugar, and cinnamon sticks. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce to a simmer and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries have burst open and can easily be stirred into the syrup, resulting in a smooth consistency. This will take about 10 minutes.

2. Once done, remove syrup from heat. Fit a large bowl with a fine mesh strainer and strain the simple syrup, leaving all of the large chunks and skin behind. Let cool for at least 10 minutes before using.
***** NOTE: My suggestion: (You can just let this cool, remove cinnamon sticks, and whiz it up in the blender for about a minute. Store in covered container in refrigerator. Keeps well.)*****

3. When ready to make your cocktails, add 3/4 cup simple syrup, or the blended cranberry sauce, whiskey, lemon juice, orange juice, lime juice, and a large handful of ice to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
Divide into 4 glasses and serve at once.

Here's today's 3 PMer!

2 oz Smirnoff Peppermint Twist Vodka
1 oz Bailey's Irish Creme

Pour into ice filled coctail shaker. Shake until well chilled. Pour into Martini glass. Enjoy!

(Smirnoff Peppermint Twist is also great by itself over ice!)
