Marki -- not only did I walk 3 miles at work today but realized I was a mile and a half from hitting 5 for the day so walked in place while watching the biggest loser til I hit my mark :D soooo doing pretty awesome today! Thats AWESOME that your husband is in it with you!!!

Jillian - Grats on day 7!

Melanie - dang -- sorry about your water :( hope you get it worked out soon!

So, I havent started my whole30 yet but been trying to do better eating between now and the start -- had another yummy salad for lunch and some fruit on the side, and then for dinner made a chicken stew (boiled chicken, then deboned it cut it into bite size pieces and put back in the broth that was made, then added frozen stew vegetables and a can of tomatoes and some seasonings) oooooooooooh my goodness it was yummy. the stew veg had white potatoes in it but I think we will remake with fresh veg and use sweet potatoes when we are doing whole30.

I woke up to find the hot water frozen in the bathroom. I know I left it dripping. Arghhhh.

Then when I told my husband about it, he growls, "Didn't you leave it dripping?" I snapped, "Yes I did!"

I think there are two of us who live here...and it was was was dripping when I went to bed!!!

I ought to fix baked fish and broccoli for dinner tonight...just to spite him.

Arghhhhh.

Sharyl, Melanie, Maggie, Regina, & Jillian, Hope you all had a great day today!

Jillian, now we're only 1 away from 75 members! We've come a long way from 25 just last month. emoticon

Today, I was telling my husband what I was planning for dinner tomorrow….. Pork Tenderloin, sweet potato, and I have to use a Super Salad that I bought from Costco. If you've never had it, it's a combo of broccoli, kale, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and some other "super foods". It has pumpkin seeds and cranberries and a poppy seed dressing. So I told him, "I'm going to have to make some kind of dressing for me to have on my salad" And then he said, "YOUR salad?? I'm NOT ruining MY whole30 over salad dressing!!!"
emoticon I didn't even realize that he was taking OUR whole30 seriously. I thought he'd jump ship at the first opportunity. Especially since he's traveling at the end of this week.

Welcome back Maggie! emoticon Remember, there's strength in numbers.

Day 5: Well the best thing I can say about Day 5 is that it's almost done and I'm still on plan.

I was sick this morning when I woke up, details need not be discussed, so I did the only thing a good 'ole American girl could do...I called in sick and skipped work today. I'm feelin' a little guilty about that now, but I really did have some gross symptoms first thing this morning. I was sure I was sick.... emoticon ...and, it was too cold to go out and start the car anyway...

My daughter called and said she sneaked in a weigh-in, she's lost 5 lbs already, and we're just on Day 5...I'm sure my success won't be that grand, but I'm determined to not step on the scales until we are done with the first 30 days.

Melanie.

Scarlett-Mel - that's hysterical about your dog. He must related to mine. "Let me out - nooo, not in that kind of weather.." hahaa they're brats.
I will look up that movie, haven't heard of it. I did watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, another good one.
Okay, here's my deal. I have a history of eating disorder, which hasn't plagued me for a long time. But I never really made friends with food until I got rid of the sugar and wheat. That was about six months ago and in that time I've lost 30 pounds - and this is a big deal! I'm not a yo-yo-er - I just gained weight slowly and steadily until I hit 190. Never lost a pound until now. I joined this team once already, to tighten up the food and see if I could reduce my "inflammatory issues" (arthritis and skin stuff), and lose the last 15-20 lbs.
I got lab results back from the doctor a week ago and my bad cholesterol is up. So then I quit this team and Paleo, and added in oats and other non-gluten grains. WELL. That was an interesting experiment, let me tell you what. BAM and I'm back to cravings and dissatisfaction with meals and wanting a drink and jonesing for desserts. UNPLEASANT. I will not NOT not NOT NOT go back to this borderline insanity, borderline compulsive eating, horrible way of relating to food, I just won't.
RYDER very kindly gave me a bunch of information about Paleo and cholesteraol. It looks like people improve their numbers. I am going to take this to mean: I need to do REAL Paleo, not the half-arsed, bacon-filled kind I was doing.
That was long, thank you if you're still reading lol..
So I need to pick a date and git on it.
Glad this team is here. I have the books. Reading tonight, organizing my kitchen. Getting rid of the last of the grains.
Thanks ~:-)
Maggie

Thanks Markie, I am going to look for Killer at Large: Why Obesity on Net Flix.
I am trying to get back in the habit of drinking tea, it isn't easy for me.
I have a ton of tea too, but never drink a lot of it.

Has any one read The 21-day Sugar Detox - by Diane Sanfilippo?
If so, what are your thoughts on the book?
I have read mixed reviews and want to be sure it is worth paying 20 plus dollars before I order it. A lot of this stuff that is in books you can find for free on line, or is just common sense.
Her Practical Paleo book is great - that is the only reason I am considering buying this one.

that cacao mint tea sounds awesome! right up my alley. But, I have wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much tea, so I cannot justify buying it.

Melanie, that is a cute story about your dog! i do not blame him. I hate the cold. I have only left my house once in the past 6 days. brrrrrr

My dog was so funny this morning. He stuck his nose on my back, like he usually does to let me know I need to get out of bed and come let him out. I got up and went to the door, opened it and a blast of cold wind came in. Joe (my dog) jerked back and looked at me like, "Are you crazy woman? Can't you see it's a blizzard out there?' Then he just flopped down on the rug and put his head between his front paws, like he was so sad that he was going to have to hold it a while longer. But, he refused to go out, even with some major prompting on my part. I finally just shut the door and quit trying to coax him out, about the same time as my husband starting complaining about all the cold air coming in. What a morning.

It's noon and Rick (my husband) just went out to check cows and start a fire in the shop stove. Joe, finally went out, but he didn't want to.

I plan to spend the rest of the day, preparing lunches, snacks and quick go tos, for the rest of the week, and shoveling out my car so I can get out to go to work tomorrow, depending on the road conditions, of course. Seems like the storm's forcing me to exercise, even though I'm allergic to exercise...at least, that's the excuse I'm currently going with to explain, why I don't do more of it...
emoticon

Have a great Sunday, you all.
Melanie.

It's hard to find dehydrated fruit that doesn't have sugar or other sweeteners added. So other than raisons, and sometimes dates, and figs, which I use for cooking I try to stay away from it. It can lead down a slippery slope and feed the sugar addiction. Since it's so much easier to eat more dehydrated fruit then fresh fruit.

Scarlett -- AWESOME!! :)

Ry -- I would guess you are right -- it has been snowing since yesterday morning and we already had a foot and a half on the ground -- if I had to guess I would say we are at about 3 feet right now -- we walked the dog last night and got up this morning with all our foot prints gone...but its ok I love love love snow!

I am totally digging this tea -- it tastes like andes mints -- without the sugar or bad stuff (its muted but its there ..and the smell is divine!

Where'd you get that really cool 30 symbol?

Day 3: Do you know how good baked acorn squash is for breakfast? It's really great...warm and filling. It was a great substitute for oatmeal.

Alcohol ??? So far, so good...I made it through day 2 w/o my nightcap. I fixed me a cup of sleepytime tea instead and that helped a little (that and 4 ibuprofen pms.) I actually slept a little last night.

I had a weird dream, too! My mother-in-law handed me a plate with a huge hamburger bun, smothered in black beans. (something I'd never eat!) I started to ask how she prepared the beans, when I "remembered" I'm not eating beans, because of my whole30. emoticon I guess the HUGE bun was ok.

Sasha is the sweet potato soup hard to make? I have a bunch of sweet potatoes.

Great job Melanie! emoticon

I can relate to being "thirsty". Normally when I cook dinner, I have a glass of wine. So tonight I had to fill a wine glass with water and drink that while cooking. It worked!

Day 2 is DONE! I'll be heading off to bed soon, so there shouldn't be any late night, cravings. emoticon

Day 2 Done emoticon (As, if I could even begin to do a cart-wheel, haha.)

I took veggie-snacks to work today, which helped a lot. And, I made sure to eat eggs and bacon for breakfast before I went to work. What a huge difference that made.

But, now, I'm sitting here, not hungry, mind you, but thirsty. I'm really going to miss bourbon and diet pepsi.

28 days to go.....

Today was A LOT easier than I thought it would be. Maybe because I started it off watching Food Matters, it's not my favorite, but still good. Tomorrow I'll probably watch Hungry for Change. Love that one.

MAGGIE, I can't remember if you're planning to do a Whole30 or not.

I'm almost ready to start tomorrow. Still working on my meal plan for the week. But I have lots of ideas for the weekend. Definitely will be keeping it simple. I also got the new cookbook, Nom Nom Paleo for Christmas emoticon

Well, it's December and the last post on this thread was October, so I thought I'd say HEY! I'm planning to kick off the 30 days on January 2nd.. Maybe there will be more activity here after that?
I hope everyone's having a fine day!
Cheers ~
Maggie

I had weird dreams last night but not food related yet. I'm going to have to put my official Whole30 on hold, and eat whole30 clean with the exception of raw milk and cottage cheese, since I forgot to cancel my standing co-op order. emoticon

Day 7! One full week :-D

had my first junk food dream last night - pepperoni pizza was the culprit. I'm probably nervous because I'm volunteering at a Halloween pizza party on Friday at my stepsons school. There will be candy and pizza everywhere!!

emoticon I had given up sugar slowly, so the first few days weren't as bad for me, when I finally officially started. Hang in there. The highs of feeling so much better, definitely make suffering through the lows worth it.

Happy Friday everyone! Well, anyone (if you're still out there) emoticon

I've been getting back on track with a Paleo lifestyle. And feeling better. Plan is to keep eating nearly whole30 clean, until October 21st and then start a new whole30.

emoticon Congratualtions! That's fabulous!

I've been eating off plan lately and feeling sick. But once we get back home from this mini vacation I"ll be happy to be back in the kitchen.

Afternoon all.

Well, paleo is an interesting thing. For years I have struggled with my weight bee-bopping from one fad diet to another to the point of having to succomb to WLS or die. Who would have thought that years later, I would find a diet that fits my lifestyle ... and, that it would fit so well, that I am losing weight without trying!

OMG ... OMG ... OMG! I just cannot fathom how great I feel with paleo. And, how wonderful it is not to have the sugar dragon and the carb monster's knocking at my door! OMG!

I love to be informed ... but the information highway can get pretty darned confusing.

The 21 day transformation program incorporates a lot of things that I would not consider paleo. For me, personally, I do not believe in using protein powders as a mainstay in my lifestyle. I prefer getting what I need from my food ... albeit that I do have to take an iron supplement because my body does not assimilate iron well.

Additionally, the 21 day transformation incorporates dairy and a few other things that I am not ready or willing to add back into my life ... I feel too good without them.

However, I do like its approach to exercise. Simple ... straight forward. Moving every day (Walking, biking, etc.) and, Push ups, Sit ups, Chin/pull ups, & Squats with occasional run/sprints pulled in ever 10 days or so.

There are a lot of variations to paleo and you just need to choose what works best for you. I am an all out kind of person and, love a good challenge of making something work for me. So far, so good.

oops! Sparking from my phone sucks! I'm soooo sorry! I didn't even notice the typo until you mentioned it.

WOW! Those are A LOT of books! Good for you! Did yo follow the 21 day transformation plan? How is that different from doing a Whole30?

Today I'm getting back on track with my Paleo lifestyle. I had been struggling lately, with sugar cravings, caved in, ate a bunch of sugar cookies, and paid the price. My body completely revolted. I was SO sick.

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Friday everyone! I've strayed off the Paleo reservation while on vacation and my body hates me for me. But I'll be ready to get back to cooking and eating clean soon.

Porky which books have you been reading?

I know how you feel. It does seem like a lot of different right ways to do the same thing or sort of the same, Paleo, Primal, Ancestral, Wild, and a few other names of whole food eating.

Morning all ...

Wow ... I just get more and more confused as to which book on paleo is the real paleo. I read one and completely follow it, then I read another and find that some of the things I was doing are wrong, only to read another book and find something else.

SIGH!

Confused.
