I throw the hoop clockwise. So by default I spin clockwise. But I make sure to reverse every few times I hoop.

Wake up every day knowing you make the decision to begin your journey anew.

This choice in this moment defines now.
What is your now?

Wow! That is good. That opens up so many possibilities in your hooping. For me, I can hoop to the left better than the right. Sometimes I will try tricks and do fine in one direction and feel totally foreign in the other direction.

What type of hooping do you do? On body (Waist, shoulders, knees) &/or off body, twins or singles. It is amazing how many different forms of hooping.

How long have you been hoop? How did you get started? I love hearing the different ways people get started and what they enjoy about it.

I saw someone hoop dancing on you tube and it was so peaceful and beautiful. I thought one day. A year later, I was walking with a friend and in a very special conversation, she said "no more somedays but make it happen". The first thing I did was order my hoop.

I have been hooping for just over a year. I mostly hoop off body dance. I am working on waist hooping, but it is challenging with my lighter hoop. I want to try knee & shoulder hooping, but not ready to add that yet. Always room to grow. I want to get into twins, but not had time to work on it.

I am right-handed, but I hoop both ways. I noticed this thread when I joined the team, so I've been trying to pay attention over the past few days, but I really don't seem to have a consistent preference...

Hi! I will remember about the resources section in future. About walking, tiny steps are easier. You step forward with the foot out in front first, then take a tiny step with your back foot. Sometimes it helps to push a little bit more when your dominant foot steps forward. I haven't tried to turn yet doing counter-clockwise. That's a new challenge! Enjoy your night (tomorrow too)!

Hi Carole,
Great question. I am right handed and I prefer counter-clockwise. I can do both, but I am able to turn around when spinning counter-clockwise, not the other way. I still haven't mastered walking while spinning. I look like a duck trying to walk. I just really started putting a lot more effort into it. Waist hooping was very difficult for me. I had to practice A LOT. So while I was working on that, I also worked on off body moves and flow. LOVE dancing with my hoop. I finally found something that I could just really relax and enjoy. Any suggestions on walking with hoop would be appreciated. A lot of times, it just takes play time with the hoop. NEED more time to play. lol

Thanks JOANNEJI! I'm not-so-good at counter-clockwise either, but I plan to practice more.

From: www.hulahooping.com/how-to-hoop.html l (This link also has a video demonstrating front to back waist hooping and how to walk and spin while hooping. The lady in the video demonstrates both counter-clockwise and clockwise directions - with ease, I might add!) I can walk and turn and all that but she does a spin move that is pretty impressive that I'd like to practice!)

"Hoop Direction: Most people favor spinning the hoop in one direction over another. There is no right or wrong direction. Typically right-handers flow the hoop counter-clockwise to the left, and left-handers flow the hoop clockwise to the right. Your favored direction is referred to as your 'first direction' or your 'in-flow.' "

This makes us rather unique in this respect, right?

Have a great day!

Hi Carole, I am right handed and I favour the clockwise directions. I can go counter-clockwise, but it definitely takes more focus. I guess that means I should do it more often!

Hi everyone! My name is Carole. I am right-handed and first learned to hoop clockwise (probably when the "Shoop-Shoop Hula Hoop" first came out, LOL!) Now I can hoop both clockwise and counter-clockwise, but I was informed that most right-handed people prefer to hoop COUNTER-clockwise because it's easier for them. How about YOU? Are you right-handed or left-handed? Do you prefer hooping to your right or to your left? "Inquiring minds wanna know!" Thank you and have a great week! :)
