Wow, that is awesome. I remember when I was a little girl my aunt had one. She also had the perfume spritzer. I thought that was really neat. She would always spritz me. I felt so special.

Yes, jewelry in those days are so much more intricate and detailed. Our powder puff boxes we have now, they used to be in a glass jar with beautiful silver lid and fur on top of powder puff. I have one of those containers! Now I know where it came from.

I don't have Amazon Prime either but thanks for the suggestions. I am sure it will eventually make it to Netflix. I never noticed jewelry either. I will start paying attention. It is funny how even jewelry goes in time periods.

Check out Amazon Prime: "the Paradise", "titanic" the series, "Jane Austic Regrets" mini series, the Railway Children. They are from the early 1900's and I love the jewelry from that time.

Not movies, but old series, such as Chesapeake shores, The Mills, or Downton Abbey. Just discovered and Downton and didn 't think it was good until now. Series 6 and now I want to savor it since it's the last series on Amazon prime.

Ahaha! Thank you guys! Languages are just my excuse to watch more TV, without feeling guilty! :p

PS: Netflix convinced me to watch the new episodes of a series called iZombie (which puts together investigations and zombies). I still haven't decided if I like it or not, in the meantime, I keep watching it :)

It is integrated with my language plan:
French: Osmosis (1 episode per week on Wednesday)
German: Chesapeake Shore (2 episode per week, Tue and Thu)
Portuguese: CSI (1 episode per week, Fri)
Thing is, watching only one episode per week make a season last like an actual season :)
And I noticed I am lacking something in English to see for Mondays, there's an opening there!

I actually started a series on Netflix the other day. Dead To Me. It is really good so far. I have watched about eight episodes so far. I also was watching The Floor is Lava on Netflix with my grandkids. One episode was so funny I busted out laughing. Sam said, "Grandma, you need to watch this every day. Lol,

Thanks Joanne!

I have Netflix and I added Dark to my list, I hope it's not too scary, I will let you know :)

I love watching movies/series with the original audio, but lately I am using dubbed series so that I can watch them in the language I want to learn (no matter where they were produced). Dark will be the first original German series I watch!

Fran, do you watch Netflix?
I thought of you last night. DH, DD#2, and I started watching a German production called ďDarkĒ. It looks super creepy! We donít like dubbing, so we always listen to the original language and read the subtitles. DD loves watching French programs, as she can understand most of what they say, and then check her understanding with the subtitles.
I sure envy you (and DD) with your language skills!

I love that with the excuse of language learning I can watch tv shows and feel like I am doing "serious work": I am watching "the mentalist" for English and "cheesapeake shores" for German (it's an American show, set near Baltimore, Maryland, but I watch it in German)

We are watching "Frequency" on Netflix, and it is super good. A young woman detective trying to catch a serial killer finds a way to make contact with her father in the past. Although her father is now dead, he was also a detective, and together they work to figure out the killer's identity. Their hope is that he can be captured 20 years in the past, thereby putting an end to his decades-long reign of terror before he can murder someone that they both love.
It is really clever!

I started watching a japanese cartoon called "Dororo". It's really strange: it's set in feudal Japan and there's ghouls and demons. One lord gave his son to 12 demons in exchange of prosperity for his land. The story is centered around this boy that have to defeat demons to get pars of him back (eg his hearing, his voice, etc). The audio is in Japanese only, but I wached with subtitle and get very happy everytime I recognize a word :)

Yes, he writes a lot... One of my friends complains that he has too many uncompleted series and it's always really painful to wait that he writes another volume of the series you want to read :p

Another fantasy series by Barndon Sanderson that I enjoyed was Mistborn, another different world, really complex, with some people that can eat metals and use those to gain some sort of supernatural abilities.

Currently it's a short story called "Edgedancer" by Brandon Sanderson. I've started it in January, then gave up, but now I want to finish it: it's an accessory story to a trilogy (the stormlight archive) I've been reading. Problem is the first 2 books were translated in italian, this short story and the third not yet. Could I wait for a translation? absolutely not. it's a very difficult reading though - it's a fantasy set in a different world, with really strange creatures. All the names from from English to Italian were more or less drastically changed (eg an Axehind, one kind of animal, is called Ascigugio in the italian translation). To make matters more complicated the main character is a not so educated girl and she talks some sort of slang - it makes reading really difficult. The whole trilogy (or better, the first 2 books, are really majestic though)...

Iíve yet to start a new series, Happy Valley is probably next :). Thanks for pointing it out. right now, though, Iím caught up in a book, so Iím finishing that first!

I really like how you see the same actors in show after show with the Brits! You are right, it is like seeing old friends.

We loved Happy Valley and the Bodyguard - both on Netflix.

We finished up "7 Seconds" last night. It was provocative! Not your typical American crime production, we felt, but so good and so intense!

Not sure what to watch next on Netflix! We always have something on the go, and usually watch one episode per evening. We are such an old married couple!! Lol!

Same here! I totally adored season 1 and 3 (actually, I totally couldnít stop watching), season 2 was ok, but I liked it less than the others. I found the trial interesting, but probably because I did a class on legal English :)

I found it a thrilling, unexpected series, but also very delicate. Scenery was top (I could move to Dorset right away after seeing the tv show).

Something I found funny about British series is that the actors are always the same and most of them had a role in Doctor Who or its spin-off Torchwood. Thereís always a sort of deja-vu feeling, like meeting old friends :p

My fav character was Alec Hardy, and I really really liked Ellie Miller as well :)

Any suggestions on what to watch next?

DH and I watched Broadchurch. We LOVED Season 1, really liked Season 2, and LOVED Season 3. (My favourite character was Ellie Miller.) We do like mysteries and police procedurals, and really enjoy the British productions. Love the accents, but also the settings - well pretty much everything. The Brits do mysteries (and period pieces) so well!

I just started a British series with David Tennant called Broadchurch. It's a crime series that talks about the investigations of a murdercase (an 11 year old boy found dead on the beach) . I only watched the first episode, but it seems interesting and I love the accents ;)

Absolutely! Anything & Everything. Sounds very gripping.

I just recently watched Good Girls. It is a series but only has one season. It ended at the cliff hanger. Ugh!!! This is why I don't usually watch series. It was on YouTube. Very good. I could not wait to watch the next one. You have to check it out.

One of my favorite movies that makes me laugh is Weekend at Bernie's. It is hilarious. Don't think too much about it because then it seems weird, but it is one of those movies that you actually laugh out loud. I love that type of movie.

I like to watch Mr. Mom every so often. I like that it reminds me it is easy to get into a rut and feel like homemaking is not special. I love the transformation that the husband does once his wife tells him that. I sometimes feel I get into a rut, but not quite that bad. lol. Enjoy.

Very timely, with the oscars coming up really soon.
Does Netflix count, and can we include series? Because we are in the middle of "Seven Seconds" which is about the death of a young black boy, police corruption, drugs, gangs, and racism. It is really good and very tense!
Regina King is in it.
