I spent a week with my daughter on the Big Island in Hawaii during her R & R from Afghanistan.
We enjoyed buying fresh produce from the local farmer's market but buying food in the grocery store was a shocker!
I haven't been following the optional food plan either; too much stuff to purchase and I know my weaknesses (I could never eat just ONE dinner roll). I have been keeping track of what I eat and for the most part keeping it within the guidelines.

Good Luck and thx to your husband for his service!

Don't think of not meeting goals as a road block instead think of that as a speed bump! Everyone drives over speed bumps they just slow down a bit for them.

For myself, I have 4 kids and an active duty husband so the meal plan wasn't working for me! I have to feed a family of 6 on less than $800 per month (sounds like a lot right?). The kicker is I live in Hawai'i and a gallon of milk can cost up to $6...so food here is super expensive! So I dropped the meal plan and have just concentrated on tracking what I eat and making sure to measure out all portions.

I set my kitchen up tonight so that I can try to meet my calorie goals. I have such a hard time when I don't meet a goal though, that it discourages me a lot, so I try to do everything perfectly. When I mess up once, I tend to give up. That is what I am trying to prevent this time. Now that I'm all ready this time, I'm going to try to learn from my mistakes, rather than let them control me.

I started with my goals, but started to follow the meal plan too. You can either follow and adapt the set meal plan to suit you, or work out your own based on the number of calories etc in your goals. Don't try to do too much at once, start with small goals and try to meet them on a daily basis-don't worry if you don't at first, after all, it is a change of lifestyle as well as a diet plan...but once you are in there, you shouldn't find it too difficult to keep up.
Remember, don't be discouraged and don't give up i f you don't meet a goal first time-you can do it with a little pereseverance! It is good to start following the diet plan too, and rack everything you eat or drink-that will give you a guide as to how you are doing and will help you stick to the plan!

Welcome to SP and to the team, sweetie-Good luck with the plan and remember we are all here for you! emoticon

Should I be focusing on just meeting my fast break goals or should I be following the meal plan too?

This is the first contact with the plan here-it is a great way to start off on your new lifestyle. I am going to start again and go each step with you all-any questions, feel free to ask!
Good luck, everyone!
